The Devil's Workshop & Day Spa, an all new large-scale theme camp, supporting the Crude Awakenings Crew & other artists, is looking for a small team of great cooks. This is an excellent opportunity for a few responsible Burners that are looking to help contribute. Additionally, the position comes with a free Burning Man ticket, free meals, free camp dues and free transportation to/from the event. You can't beat that!

About the position
We are building one of the largest art installations that has ever been on the project. Our crew will be on the playa from August 13 - Sep 7. Our camp, The Devil's Workshop and Day Spa will be providing meals to our campers and the Crude Crew (about 30 people). We will need 5-8 people who can commit to being on the playa for one to two weeks (doesn't have to be concurrent) and will mak two meals a day and staff the kitchen. We will have a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, stove, sink, etc. There will be camp volunteers to help with clean-up but the kitchen staff is in charge of coordinating them.

We are also looking for a head cook/kitchen manager. It would be an ideal job to split for a couple!

In exchange you get

* a free Burning Man ticket
* free meals while you're on the playa.
* waived camp dues ($50).
* space on our trucks to haul your stuff there and back.
* and to be part of this exciting and dynamic project.
* more perks for the kitchen mgr/head cook --TBA

Interested? Here's what to do...
It's pretty important to us that our team gets well fed. So we need to know that you're reliable, have experience cooking for groups, and aren't going to burn and leave us hungry. Even though you'll be at Burning Man, we need you to consider this a job. Although we're paying you in trade, it's a pretty great package!

If you're interested in this position, please email Diva ( netdiva@gmail.com ) and tell me a little bit about yourself and why you should be considered. If I don't know you, I'm going to want some info about other projects you've worked on, how many times you've been in the desert, who can vouch for you, etc.

Feel free to forward!

About Crude Awakenings
A play in two parts, by Karen Cusolito & Dan Das Mann, Crude Awakening illustrates our so-called modern society replete with our dependence on oil to support our lust for cars, power, products and convenience. What happens when the oil is gone? Will the Earth still be healthy enough to further sustain us? Have we finally gone too far?

The nine faithful are portrayed in monumental scale, at the conclusion of their pilgrimage to pay homage to the highest and holiest deity - the Revered Oil Derrick. Some have arrived and assumed their respective postures of worship, others are still approaching from the direction of the horizon.
Anyway, Cirque du Mole: Fall from Graceland is in need of another chef to compete ONSTAGE, cooking for the audience and providing witty banter to keep the show moving along. Our menu (in fact our whole show) is Elvis themed. My character is Elvis Christ Superstar in a disco jumpsuit. It would be nice if you could come up with something elvis-y for your character as well.

The menu is three courses: Appetizer, Main Course, Dessert.
We try and make one of the choices from each course vegetarian.
I'd love to do my own thing, but my question to those who've done it: what would you tell anyone considering it? Things you need to do? Things not to do? And above all, did you feel like all the time, money, and energy was worth it?

Ok Burners...

I know this is earler... but if you have no ride then I am just in time!!! I have three seats open!

Last Burn I drove from Oakland, Ca to BRC via Yosemite-Mono Lake-Sparks-Reno. This was a long route but very pleasant. If you are in need of a ride and adventerious then keep me in mind. We sill share the gas.

Please Note!!! I have a Ford Ranger towing a Trailer. I can carry some of your stuff in my trailer. My ranger has two jump seat in back. They are facing each other rather then the front window. Some will find this very cramped and uncomfortable. We will be rotating seats with the front passenger. IF YOU GET CAR SICK THEN THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.

Hey!!! If you want to see Yosemite and Mono Lake... Come and join me!!!

Please keep me in mind. I will post with updates.

One thing that worked well for me last year was cooking up a large pot of vegetable soup in advance and freezing it solid. Easy to heat up, minimal cleanup, and travels well if you have to fly. Just pack it in an ice chest without any additional ice and it will still be frozen by the time you stock up on ice in Reno (or wherever).

Some other folks I've camped with have done similar things with a vacuum sealer, freezing portions of lasagna, jambalaya, etc. and then boiling them in their bags once you get out there.

Ok Last year i fixed french toast out of my little camp for the enire group that was there about fifty or so and a few folks walking by.
Organic everything, used the six day cooler to keep peaches and strawberries fresh, made fresh sweet cream right there. In the mornings I had no problem with dust storms. This year i am pre sealing fine foods to serve, but I am wondering seriously about dust storms.
What is the set up and is there anything i should know about how to maintain during such an occurence. What are your experiences
