Hello, everyone, hello. I am Ari, your Lord of Inventory. (Word up to all those who attended in '06 and '05.) I'm not planning to attend this year, but I'm still on board to organize food shipping out from Berkeley. Last year we were under budget AGAIN, so I think we'll be entertaining some more expansive notions of what food can be like at Contact Camp - or making it cheaper, either way.
We'll have lots of food in stock for people to make their own meals and snacks, and we'll also have large common meals every night and some mornings.
Here's a general notion of what foods will be stocked in the collective pantry:
veggies and fruits
tempeh and tofu and miso
OJ/other juice concentrates
dry staples such as grains, legumes and noodles
snackables such as nuts and nut butters, dried fruit, chips and dips (dehydrated)
chocolate
coconut milk
oil, condiments, sweeteners, and seasonings of all kinds
tea, including kilos of yerba mate
almost anything that fits the standard - ecologically sustainable, easily packed, not prone to rot, and popular among campers
Here are some things we WON'T be getting (and you can get them yourself):
meat
milk
eggs
prepared soymilk
And here are some things we COULD get, if I hear lots of support, or if they have a sponsor*:
Powdered cowmilk, soymilk, or goatmilk
cheese
canned coconut water
coffee, alcohol, other drugs (nothing "illegal", silly)
*As sponsor pays up front for a bulk quantity of something that may not be popular enough for the whole group to prioritize it, but that may nonetheless turn out to have been worth buying in bulk. Ask me if you're curious, or if you want something controversial.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now your job is to request things you want to eat, be they individual ingredients or meals you'd like to have, so go ahead and reply to this post. You may also request some non-food items that the entire camp will need.
---Don't hesitate to send me a personal message if you have a question that may not need to be displayed to everyone.----
Love,
Ari

Re: Contact Camp 07 FOOD REQUESTS
Thu, May 24, 2007 - 10:15 AMhey ari
love you, too !
I think as part of food upgrade, we should get some cases of coconut water. I remember when i brought the actual coconuts, it was fun, but a mess as about a third of them went bad.
As part of an upgrade, also, I want to make a more "together" passive cooling system for food.

raw food folk
Fri, June 8, 2007 - 1:29 PMHey Ari, there may be a small sub-population who are raw food folk. 'not my area of expertise. what i communicated to them is thatthey should communicate with you via this post and put in their requests, and that perhaps there can be some ear-marked food for raw food folk, invested in at $35 per person who so needs, but that they should communicate with you about how much of what that might get them and what they might have to handle from there on their own.
I also thought that that might involve refrigeration and so offered that if they (or anyone for that matter) can get us a decent working fridge (or two?), we can bring it in the bus, and we'll have power via the Heebs...

Re: Contact Camp 07 FOOD REQUESTS
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 10:46 AMAvocados? Green Tea? Oatmeal w/ raisins? Maybe we could do some sprouting? That would be a big hit with the raw foodists.

Preliminary Pantry List
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 4:20 PMSo here's a general notion of the things I'll be ordering for us. Please note any omissions, and feel free to share any concerns. Sure, I could live on this, but I guarantee you I've forgotten many things.
Refrigeration is the main thing affecting what we will and won't get, so bear that in mind. I can get a lot more amazing food if it can be kept very cool.

Re: Preliminary Pantry List
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 4:31 PMHey there, thanks for doing the ordering. You rock! I would like to suggest ordering safflower or grapeseed oil instead of sunflower for those folks like me with a nut and fatty seed allergy. It would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Last call for FOOD REQUESTS!
Sun, August 12, 2007 - 10:06 PMHey Ari,
I know this is last minute but I'm responding to Karl's request for head cooks. I could do that one night, but would be interested in making Indian food. Chana masala requires chickpeas, Indian spices and tomato paste. Dahl is easy. We could get premade chutneys. Raita would be nice if we could refrigerate the yogurt. Cooling with cucumber and coriander...
Let me know if it's not too late.
Nolita
