We have a lot more discussion going on at http://tribes.tribe.net/playamaps

Didn't know about this tribe when I created PlayaMaps, but we should join forces!

GPS stories from the playa...

I have two success stories from the playa this year, aside from the usual uses . . .

1) We got an e-trex model turned into PlayaInfo this year (with no user info or name tag). Zhahai took a look at the way points and found one labeled "base". We surmised this was the owner's base camp. We decided to head out, and for the first time perhaps in the history of PlayaInfo - hand deliver the wayward item to its owner.

We stopped by my camp for a tasty beverage and to get my megaphone, in case we needed to shout out over the area. The beer was so refreshing we almost totally forgot the megaphone. But it turns out we didn't need the megaphone at all, as the GPS guided us directly to the camp and the owner was relaxing with friends, right on the spot.

2) An elderly gentleman was lost, and looking for his way home for three and a half hours after the burn. No one could tell him where 3:30 and Delirium was... I was hanging out by the flaming lotus girl's installation when a someone tugged on me, hey this guy is lost, can you help him?

So i got the GPS out and we proceeded to his camp. At first i thought i would just get him on his way. But i decided to take the time, and walk him all the way back to his camp.

After getting him home, I met a wonderful elf named Erin on my way back. She stopped for tea and we parted ways. Wonder if we'll ever cross paths again.
