Slowly but surely...

I started my progarm when I got back from the Burn. Basically hunter-gatherer diet, I have Crohn's Disease and eating an ATkins type diet seems to be the only thing that works. Don't have a wheat enabler in my life anymore. I've lost 13 punds so far, have 11 pounds to go and I haven't really upped the exercise levels yet. My back has been bad since moving two weeks ago so it's hard to move. But I'm getting better and teaching my dance class once a week is helping, as well as walking the dog a lot. Hopefully I'll get some more cardio in, and start spinning poi more to get the upper body back in shape. Goal weight is 135. I carry a lot of muscle so I'll see from there if I want to lose more. When I went to 125 nobody thought I looked good, said I was too thin. We'll see. Trying to keep the faith tho!

Hey that is awesome progress! Slowly is the way to do it. I just am posting the wikipedia link for those who aren't familiar with Chron's Disease. I would say just stick to the leaner cuts of meat.

I lost 35 pounds on Atkins when I got out of the hospital the last time for the Crohn' s. I pretty much ate bacon every day and my triglyerides, which were in the 300's, heart attack country, went to 86. Good cholesterol up, bad went down. Fat doesn't have much to do with making fat, the sugar does. The fat actually helped me feel full with less food and evened out my blood sugar, which was always a yo-yo. And forget about fiber, it just makes things worse! Just so not delicate, you know? My acupuncturist has me cooking all my vegetables and that's been helping with bloating too.

Thanks for the posting of the link. Not many people know what Crohn's is, that there's no cure, and they have no idea how to really treat it. I asked for a diet to go on when I found out I had it, thinking that if it affects my digestive system, there should be a special way to eat. And they said then that diet had nothing to do with it. Bullsh*t!!! They say now that diet does affect how severly you are sick. And this is only a difference of 5 years, the low card revolution had this positive effect, at least. And I only found out about this from reading the Atkins book, since my sister and brother-in-law went on the diet. He had had a case similar to mine that was helped by the diet.

So no drugs, no sickness everyday, much healthier. I don't eat wheat, sugar, starch, all that white food, when I'm being good. It's much easier to be good when you feel so much better, and looking good doesn't hurt either!

Glad you are feeling better!!! I cook most of my veggies but I do like raw stuff on occassion like salad and/or baby carrotts. Sauteed spinach with butter would be soo yummy I think you can have that on Atkins :P mmm mmm. Depending on where you live you might even be able to find a Low Carb Food Specialty Store.

Thank you! I miss salads a little bit, but not too badly. Cooked lettuce is just gross. I am a huge fan of spinach with anything! Garlic and butter is my fave. I put butter (Smart Balance) on everything, eggs, veggies, whatever. That little bit of healthy fat makes me happy and feel full sooner. And I eat less since the taste is so much better, I'm more satisfied.

I have some new pix posted on my profile. My progress is becoming visible.
