Once again, if you were at Art Model Camp last year, plan to go this year or plan to go in the future, this is the place to be Saturday July 19th at 5:30. The address is 1876 Abilene Way, Claremont, CA. 91711. Get to the cul de sac and go straight and follow the signs along the dirt road. Check it out on Google Earth, it's the large property with the spiral galaxy. The arrow for the property shows the entrance to the cu de sac.
Models, et al,

We have scored a beautiful camp location in the AEZ adjacent to new friends we made last year. Our location was certainly part of what made our camp so successful. It can be even better this year with your participation. Take time to recruit your friends and models for this years camp.

Remember the planning meeting at my house on Saturday July 19th, 5:30 P.M. until whenever. food and beverage will be provided.
THE ART OF FREEDOM
An Interdisciplinary Arts Conference

August 28, 2008
Black Rock City, Nevada

How can we recognize, articulate, and navigate the politics of art and freedom? What are the roles of our communities, cultures, and societies in enabling or restricting arts and freedoms? What freedoms are needed to enable artistic expression? What limitations do we struggle against to achieve artistic freedom? How can freedom be experienced as a form of art? Can art create freedom?

THE ART OF FREEDOM is an Interdisciplinary Arts Conference that will take place on August 28, 2008 in Black Rock City, Nevada at Burning Man (www.burningman.com). Scholars and creative thinkers from all levels of education and experience are invited to submit proposals for panel presentations. Conference sessions will typically consist of panels of three 20-minute paper presentations, but we are also open to proposals with creative and unusual presentation formats (feel free to think outside the box!)

Possible presentation topics might include (but are not limited to):

* Inquiries related to Art, Freedom, and the “American Dream.”
* Considerations of Burning Man and its relation to culture, society, law, or politics.
* Discussions of specific Burning Man Art installations or projects.
* Presentations on censorship in relation to artistic freedom.
* Proposals for new directions in activism related to art and freedom.
* Explorations of the relationships between subcultural expression and “mainstream” cultures.

These are just a few sample topics – we are open to considering any presentation that offers an engaged and/or creative approach to the conference theme.

The conference will be hosted by Freedomcommunity at Burning Man, and all participants should be familiar with the unique conditions of the Black Rock City environment. Note that the minimum cost for attending Burning Man is over $200, so participants should already have plans to attend the festival or should be prepared to embrace the festival in its fullness.

For more information, please contact David Higgins, Glaukopis Conference Coordinator: (glaukopisproject@gmail.com).

Abstracts of 250 words should be sent to (glaukopisproject@gmail.com) no later than June 30, 2008.

Notification will be sent regarding accepted proposals in early July.
Volume 12, Issue #11 - The Art Edition
March 11, 2008

What would Burning Man be without art? Shudder. We don't even want to think about it.

This is one of our favorite times of the year ... it's time for our annual Art Edition of the Jack Rabbit Speaks. Now's the time to really start to get excited, anticipating the amazing artwork that you'll have the opportunity to experience and interact with out in Black Rock City.

First, we've got a preview of all the art grants (or "honorariums") being awarded this year, so you'll get a taste of the art installations that part of your ticket price helps to fund. That's right, YOU play a part in making this art possible, so thank you.

Not only that, we've also got a couple of very exciting announcements about this year's temple. First ... yes, there will be a temple. Second, it's going to be way cooler than this Rabbit's proposal to construct a full-blown replica of a CostCo warehouse. Seriously though ... this is going to be really cool. Read on to learn more about it, and how you can get involved and help make it happen, in "Latest News".

Then, we've got some important information about the community's effort to stem the increasing vandalism to artwork out on the playa. In recent years, it's been getting worse, and we'd like to see it stop. It's only radical self-expression when you're destroying your own stuff, folks. If you didn't make it, don't break it. Please read below for more on how you can help.

We encourage everybody to get out and create artwork of their own, or to join on with a crew ... it's truly a unique and inspiring experience, and an altogether new way to experience the event. If you're going to be creating "dangerous" artwork (you know, the good stuff: the things that burn, explode, shoot fire, swing wildly, thrust, parry, impale or whatever), we've got some words of advice and links to some important information before you get started.

Finally, we neglected to put the durn URL for the project registration questionnaires in the last JRS. Silly Rabbit. It's (wait for it ... wait for it ...) http://forms.burningman.com ... so there ya go. That's the first step in registering your theme camp, village, art project or mutant vehicle.

Burn on, everybody. And remember ... if you're not making art, then BE art.
ANNOUNCING ... THE 2008 BURNING MAN HONORARIUM PROJECTS

The Burning Man Art Department is pleased to announce the funded projects for 2008. This year we are funding 38 projects, an increase from our usual 30 or so, as we are funding more small projects. Less than 1/3 of the projects are from the Bay Area, and we received many more proposals from abroad than ever before. We have four overseas projects this year: two from London, one from Amsterdam, and one from Wales. (Note: grants for the Man Base art installations will be announced in a future JRS.)
You are All so Many of Me, by Michael Emery, Santa Cruz, CA
A multitude of small cut mirrors provides the opportunity for both literal and metaphorical reflection. During the day, the viewer perceives a cubist self-portrait smiling back. At certain points during the night this reflection will be enhanced with a variety of images projected by LCD upon the mirrors. The viewer is invited to interact with images of fire and water as well as a racial/gender spectrum of other humans. The viewer is invited to contemplate, and perhaps to help create the American Dream of FREEDOM FOR ALL.
THE 2008 TEMPLE: BASURA SAGRADA

The 2008 Temple will be built by Shrine and Tucker, who did the Tasseograph Tea Temple in 2007, and it's called BASURA SAGRADA ("sacred trash"), a reference to Antonio Gaudi's Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

http://www.basurasagrada.org

Tucker writes:

"We are extremely humbled by this opportunity and hope to create a temple worthy of the name. The responsibilities that come with a project like this are incredible, but we are happily moving forward. Burning Man has been generous in their support of this project, and yet we know that it will take much more to realize the vision. If this is truly to be a temple for the community, then we need your help to make it happen. More than that, we want you to be involved!

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN

GOT TRASH?

LARGE JUNK a.k.a. 'OBJETS D'ART'
Got an old car you want to get rid of? An ancient barn that is falling in on itself? A ton of windows, doors, or perhaps a giant victorian clock/chandelier/toilet? Well we want it.* We are developing our website but should soon have the ability to allow you to post up your stuff and see if we can use it. Meanwhile, go ahead and send info/images of your junk offerings to basurasagrada@gmail.com

*...maybe. it will depend on whether you can get it to our workplace and whether it will fit into the overall design.

SMALL JUNK a.k.a. 'OFFERINGS'
Perhaps you don't have an old stained glass window or church steeple lurking in your garage. No worries: You can still offer something deeply personal to the temple project. In the past inscriptions were written on the lower levels of the temple during the event. That will still happen, but we would like to take that a step further, and give the citizens of Black Rock the opportunity to contribute both physically and emotionally to every level of the piece.

Much of Shrine's work consists of repeated shapes that create an impact from the accumulated whole. To that end, we will be publishing a series of shapes that can be cut out of cardboard, inscribed with your prayers, blessings, dreams and elegies, and sent in over the coming months. These pieces will be used to form design elements and flourishes throughout the temple's various structures. We would love it if people could come together and create these shapes as groups and mail or hand-deliver them to us.

VOLUNTEER
Perhaps the most important way you can get involved is to volunteer for the temple effort. While we will be working with a dedicated crew, from time to time we will need extra people in the Bay Area to help us gather materials, move it around, build it up, and make it beautiful. Got a skill? A truck? A paintbrush? Got a junkyard? Bring it on. The work will be meticulous and hard, and offers nothing beyond the opportunity to eat large amounts of cold pizza with some amazing people, and help provide a necessary sacred space for 40,000+ like-minded souls!

Once we get started, we invite you to come by our East Bay workspace and see what we're up to.

DONATE
While the playa is one of the few places on earth that eschews currency, it inevitably takes big money to build big art. To build something as large as a temple, worthy of the name, we will need more than just prayers. We will need money. After securing a grant from the Burning Man organization, we now have our footing to move forward. A big part of that is fundraising. If you cannot contribute in another way (or even if you can), consider a monetary donation. We are a non-profit effort, and in collaboration with a generous 501(c)3, we are making any donation tax deductible. Please visit our website for details, and to see what we are up to: www.basurasagrada.org

Gratefully,
-Tuktuk"

**\<>/**\<>/**\<>/**\<>/**\<>/**\<>/**\<>/***\<>/**\<>/**\<>/**\<>/**

RESPECT THE ART: IF YOU DIDN'T MAKE IT, DON'T BREAK IT!!

Over the last several years, Burning Man has seen a disturbing trend growing in Black Rock City: more and more art installations are getting vandalized or damaged every year, including everything from tagging to outright destruction.

Artists work exceptionally hard to create artwork for the playa at great personal expense. Understandably, they are deeply affected when their work is destroyed or damaged … and participants who would have otherwise experienced the piece as it was intended are also affected. While some participants may see vandalism as their personal form of “radical self-expression”, ultimately, personal expression needs to be tempered by the realities of co-existing within a community, which requires mutual respect to thrive.

Please help us spread the word: if you didn’t make it, don’t break it! Help stop mindless vandalism to artwork on the playa.

Some of the artists tell their stories below, in a letter to our community from Kate Raudenbush, who created the Guardian of Eden last year. We reprint them for you here, in the hopes that their words speak more persuasively than any missive we could craft. We know that most JRS readers are unlikely to be the culprits of vandalism; we hope you will help by taking time to share in watching out for the artwork in our city.

Kate writes:

"Dear Burning Man family,

My fellow artists and I were comparing stories and notes about our creative efforts from the 2007 Burn. As wonderful as this year was, we all noticed a disturbing pattern of behavior that has grown over the years and seemed to come to a climax this year. I am talking about the vandalism, tagging, willful destruction, and deliberate arson of our artwork. It made me think that some of us come to Burning Man and don't really get what it's about. Some people seem to think that the expressive freedom that you are afforded at Burning Man can come at the expense of others. It doesn't work that way. With freedom comes respect: tagging, breaking, burning, pissing on our art is an act of disrespect, not creativity.

Some people might think that tagging is some form of radical act of 'stickin’ it to the man' but in this case you are sticking it to your own family. You have no idea how hard we work making this art for you, yes, YOU. We don't get paid to do this; we do it because we love it. Months of work, sometimes the better part of a year’s worth, is destroyed in a few minutes, and entire teams of artists and builders are devastated. Here are a few examples (there are many more):
'On Monday night the entire exterior of the structure was ruined basically by the ugliest bulls**t tagging you've ever seen in your life. I knew this would happen to some extent, but I was still devastated when I saw it. I hadn't even been able to take hi-res pics of it before it happened. I was down in the dumps for days. Some of the a**holes who f**ked it up even put their playa addresses. Can you believe that?' - Treiops, Artist
'The glowing mirrored light fixture above was stepped on, then fixed, then not 24 hours later crushed beyond repair, the vandal leaving their underwear and trash and cigarettes in the broken mirrored dome afterwards. The sculpture light was ruined for everyone for the weekend of the burn. Also, some one set up their personal hammock between the lower legs and lounged there all afternoon creating a bend in the metal where it was attached.' - Kate Raudenbush, Artist
'Early Sunday morning my futuristic Statue of Liberty had become a 10' cinder; my trailer, generator, scaffold and all of my tools were bent, melted and mangled wreckage. The arsonist(s) had dragged the generator to the trailer, removed the gas cap and dumped it upside down on top. A spent, pocket-sized butane canister lay among the wreckage. I welcome any evidence from the community. It has seriously affected my ability to support myself as a carpenter, and to express myself through my artwork.' - Matthew Welter, Artist
'Just hours after the piece was opened, the crew smelled spray paint and caught a guy tagging the base of the sculpture. He said he thought it was ok because it was the base! The crew refrained from strangling him, and instead made him clean off the paint and succeeded in educating him as to how devastating tagging is to the artists.' - Mike Ross, Artist
Burning Man is not just a party in the desert. It is a community, a family … and a sacred, absurd, erotic, liberating, empowering, humbling, enormous, ecstatic canvas of possibility. That is why we are part of this community. We all need to realize how special that is and celebrate, teach, and live it, not destroy it. As artists we build art not just for us, but as a gift, for you. This is our act of gifting to the community. And we love sharing it with you; this is why it hurts so much when this act of generosity is taken for granted and vandalized. I know that we as a community are better than this. Please spread the word. Taggers: Feel free to tag YOUR OWN ART! Build a wall and have at it. But please respect the art of others.
CREATING DANGEROUS ART FOR THE PLAYA? TIPS & INFORMATION

If you're going to be creating artwork to bring to Black Rock City, it's a good idea to read through a few web pages before you start ... especially if you're going to be doing something dangerous ... like things that burn, spew fire, or otherwise might endanger people or property. Nothing puts a damper on a great time like a bad injury, or damage to the playa. Ultimately, it's the socially responsible thing to do. And we are, if nothing else, a community. So, do the right thing ... go read:

Creating Dangerous Art Safety
Playa Protection & Burn Scar Prevention
http://www.burningman.com/installations/burn_scar_prevention.html

Finally, please submit an Art Installation Questionnaire, found here:

St. Gyles trailer, with all of their props has been stolen. Please share this information with anyone in our world you think of. Maybe someone can catch a 'fire sale' and let the rest of us know, so we can recover at least some of what they've lost.

The sad thing is that they've recently replaced a pavilion or two...Panther Pavilions run about $2,500. They also had some older ones, about 4 total, so that's about $10k worth of props, in addition to everything else...the rugs, ewers, platters, trunks, etc.

The trailer, license plate number 4EA3550, was in Hayward, parked on the curb outside a guildmember' s home. It was a 16' long, by 6' wide by 7' tall, white, no-name cargo trailer. It was stolen some time Sunday night.

It’s a potluck, with a Hawaiian theme, probably food to feed 4 people will be sufficient. There will be no facilities to cook food there, so dishes must be prepared ahead of time. And the host asks that no simple snacks (chips, cookies, etc) be brought.
I am afraid that I will not be able to cut the content of the movie script, even if I find actors interested .You can e-mail me with rates, photos, questions, etc. If your an actor or actress who has worked in nudity and/or sexual situations, is comfortable with it, and would like to take on a feature narrative film as a major role please e-mail me or show up to the auditions. The two main roles are the ones that require it but there are others. If you would like to be featured in sequences that do not involve the main characters, but are part of dreamlike imagery (that features nudity/partial nudity)you can either show up to the audition, or e-mail me with link to your work. Best place to e-mail:
theperiodmovie@yahoo.com

Here is the plot:
Aberrant Behavior, is basically about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. Who are in a very self destructive relationship, there perfect for each-other except they literally kill each-other by being together. A lot of psycho-sexual/self mutilation-masochism in this one. There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis.

Keep in mind the budget of this movie will probably stay around 25-35, 000 dollars (already secured), so just warning I can't pay the highest rates

I have a new movie called "Aberrant Behavior" auditioning Sat. 1/19 3:30-6:3- at the Dark Room SF 2263 Mission off of 19th and Mission@ 3:30 - 6:30. (My first movie "the period" came out through Sub Rosa Cinema can be seen/bought at Netflix www.myspace.com/theperiodmovie as well as various other outlets)
Aberrant Behavior, is basically about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis. If you can't make it to the auditions, you can send me a head shot with resume, or whatever you want. We can then decide when and where to meet.

I will be hiring for many roles, all ages (over 18) races, sizes, etc. But here are the main characters:
Main Characters:
Victor Muertos: (Mid to late twenties) Half Mexican/Half white (Half latino/half white will probably work). Black hair, down to chin and five o clock shadow. (Flexible though). Tall and thin but not too thin.
Dark, brooding, depressed, prone to long winded sarcastic, cynical rants. Living off the state for mental depression, and addiction, but eventually breaks himself from the state. He hates the state, and normal life in general. He hates almost everything. He is sort of sloppy hipster, slightly emo, slight slight slight goth meets street kid. Light or no body mod, piercings, etc. He eventually lives on the street because of choice. He falls in love with Aiko.

Aiko Zumbi (18-early twenties or look like it) Half Japanese/Half German (or Japanese, or half Japanese/Half white). Shorter than Victor, thin but still slightly curvy.
Street kid with a bit of dark hippie. Has been sexually abused as a child. Prone to violence. Prone to long winded rants, or sometimes just total silence. Dark, cynical, with a very bleak view of life. Body mods, tattoo's, piercings, fine. Dreaded or colored hair fine as well. Actually preffered.
She falls in love with Victor.

Emma May (20's to 30's) Actress must be thin, because character is anorexic. Very fake, superficial, manic laughing. Very self deluded. She doesn't really see her anorexia as a problem, she think she looks great though she's obviously dieing and goes to extremes to keep herself thin. She is always dressed up elegantly and thinks of herself as a proper lady even when doing something grotesque . She is a head executive at a advertising/pr firm that she gets a Victor a brief job at, through meeting him in a class over there mutual addictions. (Brief Nudity /Partial a few times)

Caseworker Joe (30's-40's) Written has hispanic, but open. Larger guy, tall, built like a shed, a bit fat but not flabby fat. Very coarse, to the point, direct "Take no shit" kind of guy. Very normal, buys into the whole big house in the suburbs, good job, etc. He is Victor's Caseworker, and is tired of Victor's Shit, and believes he is not trying to quit. (None)

Glitters- a gay gangster rapper, take everything that's a cliche and horrible about it and flip it so that it's gay (some, will also need male models)

Pedida Muertos-Victors Mother. A nearly catatonic morally apprehensive drug addict who's always sleeping with random guys and ignoring her child (Some nudity/sexual situations can be negotiated to less)

And then random visuals, nudes for some flashback scenes (of some sort of psuedo porn the main characer shot) a girl that Victor sleeps with before he falls in love with Zumbi (requires brief nudity/sexuality) and some body part imagery that will not feature the face of the actor/actress, among other thing

I need before I even start:
Prostethetics/Makeup- There are many parts of my movie that need gore, ghoulish makeup or creating body casts for dreamlike effect (like a scene where they fall onto the ground and break like porcelain blood-paint spraying out of them creating a heart) but most importantly I need someone who can help make someone look anorexic, eye sockets reccessed , hips sticking out, ribs sticking out, shoulder blades, etc. I can't start without this because it's one of the main characters.

Boom-I have someone lined up for operating boom/mixing sound, but I'm not sure he'll always be available. I need someone who has at least some experience in this to help. I have equipment but having (better?) equipment would be great.

Props- It would be great to have someone who can assist in creating edible (or non toxic) chemicals, substances, materials for the main characters to ingest. It would also free me up to think about other things.

Lighting/ Art Department/ Set Design/Decoration/Locations- I need someone who can do a lot without a lot who can work with unusual materials. Who isn't too expensive or I won't be able to afford you. Also may be able to transform other locations into desired location.Things needed for instance underground bomb shelter turned into run down sorta apartment. Abandoned buildings. Offices. Fashion Show. A sewer, where the characters live in and eat off of trash.

Original posting:

Set Decorators/Builders:
Though the majority of the movie will be in real locations. There will be a few sets built, and sets that will be decorated to fit the movie. I am looking for people who have experience building sets (theater experience would be great) on a low budget. Resourcefullness in materials is needed (Meaning you can do a lot with not a lot). Building flats, painting, decorating.

Prosthetics/ Make-Up: Though this is not a gore horror movie. There is quite a few instances of gore. People who have experience in mold making, prostethics, sculpture. etc. would be very helpfull. Also people good at making people looking sickly or malnourished through make-up needed. In addition Emma May, the severe anorexic will need added pieces to protrude her brows and jaw, her ribs, collar bones, hip bones, etc to make herself appear much thinner. Actually a lot of make up needs from simple to complex through out the movie.

Vfx-Compositors- Though this will not be a special effects epic, there will be things needed. Good flashy two animations/composting for some of the fake commercials/promos. Possible fire and underwater animation. Some manipulation of the video -color fluctuations, shrinking an enlarging, simple morph effects, color globules to represent visual aberrations in the characters eye-sight. Some 3-D needed especailly those who are good working with modeling human figures. But mostly more simple 2-D basic 3-D stuff. I may do this myself, but send me a link to your work, and I might hire you for the movie.

Props: I will be doing much of this myself, but may need help in re-creating chemicals, materials, such as drano, soap, dirt, carpet, many other instances through-out the script, to create realistic looking edible (or at least non toxic ) substitutes for the substances they swallow.

Mechanical/Puppetry- Not needed for a lot of the movie. But there is a few scenes with Emma Mays giant snake like tape worm that slithers around. Also a scene where skull bowls start vomiting (have to read script to explain) Could do myself, just seeing if anyone else might be interested.

Lighting Designer: Though I will likely take over this role myself, and a lot of the footage will be shoot in the streets style. There will be a few locations that will be staying in for a long while in the script, and would like good, stylized lighting for maximum creepy effectiveness.

Costume: I already have a few people on board for this, but as this movie ends in a big Valentines Day Fashion Show. I am looking for people who could be commisioned for clothing for that event (and other sequences in the movie as well). Also, previously made pieces could work.

Underwater Camera- Anyone who would like to rent me an underwater camera, or who has experience filming underwater, this is needed for a few sequences.

Boom Mic/ Sound Mixer- I already have someone onboard for this, but never hurts to have a second position, or a backup

Pyro/ Fire Safety/Explosion - This really isn't needed for a lot of the movie. But there is one scenes where a whole room catches on fire (with possible stuntman that catches on fire, I made do this in special effects). There is another scenes where a home-made bomb blows a crack into a wall and makes it crumble. I want these scenes to come off effective and safe.

Security- Not throughout the whole movie, but there will be scenes where I will be filming in potentially dangerous locations, and a climax that will need crowd control

Legal/ Locations- I will probably do this myself, but if anyone has experience in finding or knowing of great locations, or securing permits for locations. I might be interested in working with you.

Production Assistants/Co-Ordinaters (I am sure you know what this means)

Music- I have most of the music worked out. But a band fell out that I really felt I needed for some sequences. If your music is post -rocky, slow core or has that aphex twin meets godspeed you black emperor I may be interested. The kind of bands I'm looking for: Mew, Godspeed you black emperor, Explosions in the sky, Spiritualized, 65 days of static, Sigur Ros. Also in some music Portis-Heady could work.

Thanks
-Jason

Hello models, friends, everybody :)

Burning man was incredible this year. Amazing temperate weather, varied clouds, some duststorms to keep things interesting, a huge double rainbow on friday, interesting art and a huge fire explosion to check out.

A raised fire stage for the fire performers improvving throughout the week was a central gathering point for many.

Critical Tits made it through the ride and to the afterparty in the deep playa before the thunderstorms hit – getting drunk on tequila sunrises, cranberry cider, and dancing to the live music from the big pirate ship with many other beautiful women during a raging duststorm and subsequent light hail was an event that probably only makes sense to those who had the pleasure of experiencing it.

The Art Model Camp came together, we had great drawing sessions noon to 3pm each day weds through sunday, with new and familiar artists returning several days in a row to enjoy drawing in our shaded area.

A highlight of my week - on sunday after the last drawing session - one artist came back and told us "because of you, we'll be back to burning man next year"

A surprising number of artists brought their own supplies – we had adequate supplemental sketchpads and pencils, charcoal etc for those that didn't. We do have supplies left over which can be used at future events :)

We had 7 people including 5 models within our camp, and about 6 others from other camps came over to model with us :) Thank you everyone! It was so amazing to work with each and all of you :)

There were no problems with yahoos, cameras, harassment, or other issues of that ilk.

The AEZ was as always a great community to be part of - Thank you Roger, Heidi, everyone for looking out for us and directing itinerant artists and models our way. Thank you Gadget for being the best neighbor ever and for the shade structure when you could keep it up, also likewise Suzanne on the other side and cookies too.

Jules did a great job of scheduling, we had all shifts covered within the afternoon modeling times, and models that were scheduled showed up on time.

I think the biggest obstacle everyone on the playa had to overcome this year was the omission of everyone's camp location info in the events calendar, along with several errors and typos that affected a number of camps in addition to ours. Burningman made an attempt to compensate for this by issuing a cross-reference document that gave most camp's locations, but having to look in three places to find each event was not the most efficient way to list things. Our camp was one of those hit particularly hard by these errors - omission of our camp location from the cross-reference document in most of the printed burningman info that came out, compounded by the inclusion of incorrect location info in one place. We put up our info at Playa Info, and had the correct location on our tribe site, and of course signs at the street by our actual modeling location, but it did take some detective work to find us. We applaud those artists who were successful in finding us, and apologize to those who tried but ...

I hope even more models, and artists, will be able to find, connect, and draw with us in future.

We have a welcome from the Artery (the central art coordination center for the playa) to promote at the artery, and to set up a drawing session in center camp next year if we want to.

Would i do this again? Yes, of course :) Will i attend on-playa in 2008? Probably not. I prefer to alternate years attending burningman, and doing other events. But i'll look in once in a while online, will help to create and continue this and other events, and from what i hear from other artists and the models who were there, am not the only one who definitely would love to see this camp continue.

Camp leader for next year, anyone??

Gadget has big plans for a much bigger and better shade structure for next year, and i have some ideas too :)

We are keeping our online sites up – if you are an artist or model , and attend or are interesting in going to burning man, please join us at: http://tribes.tribe.net/burningmanartmodelcamp This is our public site, and is open to all our supporters, models, artists, and others who would like to cross paths with us on the playa or at regional events. This tribe is also a forum for posting other model-related events or workshops, resources etc.

If you're a model, and/or are a member of our camp at burning man, you can also join our yahoo group – artmodelcamp@yahoogroups.com this is a smaller and more private and usually logistics-oriented forum for those in our camp or directly supporting it who prefer occasional e-mail through a yahoogroup over the social networking of tribe.

Once again, thank you EVERYONE who contributed to making this our best ever first year for this camp on the playa!

ROLL CALL:

So far, those in our camp are:
Luyah
Doug
Seawolf
Jules
Windpipe
David
Joe Smith

am i forgetting anyone?
are there any additions?

PLACEMENTS WITHIN OUR CAMP:

The biggest question in anyone's placement is placing Doug's sculpture project with good sight lines to the shaded stage area attached to Gadget's bus, and my shade structure aligned with that., and the rest of the people in Gadget's and our camps in compatible alignment. Gadget's people may also have tents or large structures. Gadget will be on playa sunday, but we probably won't know the placement and angle of his bus and other structures in his camp till we arrive.

Doug loves to cook, and will be cooking off the back of his trailer.

The shower structure will be near Doug's camp, and extra water will go into my greywater system.

David - since you're arriving early and self contained in your car, i'll likely place you at the upper/inside corner of space 48, Put your vehicle temporarily up against the four corners of 48, where 41, 3, 82 meet, and if we need to adjust that i'll let you know shortly after i arrive.

Does anyone have placement requests for their personal space, or suggestions or questions about the space set-up as a whole?

Anyone arriving on Monday before Doug and myself, should look for Gadget's big bus in space 41, in this map: www.ae-zone.org/dokuwiki/doku.php

6:30 is one street to the left of 6:00 as you enter the playa, E= estuary, C= Coral reef

Art model camp is in space 48 , just up and to the R of Gadget who's in 41.

I need your input on this Sat 18 Aug if possible:

It appears that due to a typographical error, our camp location is not listed in most of the burningman publications that are going out. I have yet to see our location in any public listing - we don't appear in the following site, and it's likely we may not be accurately listed in the print handout at the gate:
I could just give up, or i could forge on ahead. What say you?

I intend to post something to the burningman tribe Sat Night, as sort of a last minute promotional effort.

What camp hours should i post?

Julie and i have talked about being open a bit in the mornings, and i see Kat is up for a later-in-the day set - does anyone want to Oversee or pose between 9 and 11 Tues Weds or Thurs? Or 4-7pms? Or Should we officially scale the whole thing back to just the 12-3 each day?

I do nude modeling in Colorado and have built a contraption (as some call it) that allows for a wide range of poses. I have worked in clay and I designed this prop so that artists could view the model from 360 degrees. Everywhere I use it, I get comments that no one has seen anything like it. An artist working in clay, could move around the posed model and create what they want in 3D.
I will be driving a Suburban. I plan to sleep inside. My bike and everything I bring should fit easily inside. So, with this extreemely small foot print, is there room for one more?

I'm a first-time Burner, so not quite sure how this works. I'll be arriving around dawn on tuesday. I know where you are located on the playa, but will I be able to drive right up to camp and set up my personal campsite by my car?

Also, are the individual camps generally close enough to share shade structures? For instance, I have extra tarp, ropes, etc. ,and will have my car to secure part of the shade structure, but was wondering if there'll be something else tall nearby to attach to or will I need to get extra tent poles?

Thanks, guys - looking forward to it!
