For those who don't subscribe to the Jack Rabbit Speaks....
RAT'S RENTAL BIKES FOR LONG-DISTANCE BURNERS
Our friend Rat, up in Sparks, writes to remind us it's time to rent a
bike for the Burn ... if you're coming from far away, that is. He says:
"If this is the first time you've heard of me, I've been providing
bikes for long-distance Burners for over a dozen years. I live in
Sparks, next door to Reno, just a block or so from the main route to
Burning Man, I-80, with easy off and on.
As usual, I'm primarily trying to get bikes into the hands of people
who travel a long way to attend the Burn -- at least 1,000 miles from
Reno.
{Canada excepted}.
This year I have more bikes than usual, so I don't expect to run out
so fast, but please don't wait too long to reserve yours!
For more info or to make reservations, please contact me at: nv_desert_rat@nvbell.net
Thanks!
Rat"

Re: Bike Rentals for Burning Man
Fri, February 6, 2009 - 11:46 AMMore info:
Thanks for your interest in Rat's Bikes! My primary goal is to get bikes into the hands of Burners who would otherwise have great difficulty in getting a ride- the Long-Distance Burner. While my main goal is Burners coming in from other countries, anyone traveling at least 1,000 from home to get here is welcome to reserve a bike.
I spend most of the year working on the bikes, making sure they're playa ready. Last year I put 200 extra-thick flat resistant tubes in, greatly reducing playa flats.
When you reserve a bike, I don't set a particular bike aside for you... I reserve bikes "in general", meaning you will be able to choose which bike you want.
The bikes are still only $40.00 USD, and I accept money orders, personal checks (up until August 1st) and Paypal. Because the demand is so great, I have to request payment be made within 30 days of your reservation request. If I haven't heard back from you within 14 days of sending this info, I will have to assume you don't want to make a reservation. If you DO want to reserve a bike, please let me know as soon as possible, saying how many you want and how you prefer to pay for them, and I will send you the payment info (Paypal acct #, mailing address) when I receive your payment I will confirm the reservation and send you driving directions to my place. I'm only one block off the main route to Burning Man, so pickup and return is easy.
Again..., these are RENTAL BIKES, and need to be returned to me here after the Burn. No cleanup is necessary. You are free to decorate the bikes as you desire. I suggest bringing or purchasing locally a lock and a light. (Providing these for every bike would force me to raise my price, which I don't want to do). And yes, I attended the Burn for 11 straight years, until taking care of the bikes forced me to stop going. I plan on returning for a 'partial Burn' next year. If you're coming from another country, my goal this year is to get as many small flags (roughly post-card size) of as many attending countries as possible. These could be either mailed to me (I'll provide my mailing address) or brought by when you come to pick up your bikes... I would really appreciate it! In the past I've gotten post cards from the different countries, but I think national flags would be very cool! Only small ones, lol.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Thanks!

Re: Bike Rentals for Burning Man
Mon, July 27, 2009 - 8:02 AMFYI, Rat has run out of bikes for 2009.
In 2010, he hopes to return to the playa but still offer bikes for those who can swing by early.
