So you want to come to the 1st Post Burning Man / Pre-Playa del Fuego Bike Parade ?

Well here is the skinny short and sweet:
We will all meet up on Sunday, Oct 5th at the Art Museum steps at 4:30. About 5 pm we will head off making a few stops such as Love Park, Rittenhouse Square and end the evening with drinks and light fare most likely at Tattooed Mom's on South Street about 7-8:00 (the exact bar will be decided by the time the reminder email goes out)

You are welcome to join us at any point on the parade or at our final destination for drinks, but please remember this IS a costume event, if you can't dress up due to some extraordinary lameness then don't come.

Important things to know:
-All are required to come in their best costume/ Playa fabulous/ weirdo art outfits and be on bike or other wheeled machines that operate at moderate bike speeds.
-Bring a bike lock or you'll be walking home.
-Bring proper lighting for you and your bike or you'll be going home in an ambulance.
-You can't under decorate your bike. It can be decorated and lit to any and all extremes possible. Consider it part of your costume
-Remember to design or modify your costume to be appropriate for riding a bike, therefore avoiding unnecessary costume and personal injury.
-This is a no fire event

The event will be postponed in case of ill weather

Hi, i am looking for someone to share a ride with - i am flying into sacramento Monday night, and was planning on heading to burning man tuesday morning-ish..... then returning to sacramento the following monday or tuesday (preferrably monday). Is anyone headed out that way? If so, does anyone have extra room in a car? I might be able to rent a car as well, in which case i would be looking for someone to share costs/keep me company for the drive/possibly store the car at a camp (not sure yet if i can park a car at my camp).

Depending on where you are mailing from it is probably about time to send off your cards, letters, and care packages to loved ones in Black Rock City!

When mailing to Black Rock City please address your playa-bound mail as completely as possible in this format to increase the odds of it being received:

CAMPER'S PLAYA NAME or REAL NAME ...or better, both.
CAMP NAME ...and any helpful descriptions of street facade, tents, or large features that might be at this location to help the postie find the addressee
CAMP ADDRESS ...as close as you can get (example: 9:35 and Hummer) &/or nearest cross-street, and even Man-side or mountain-side (if you know)

...and include a return address, just in case.

i'd like to get started using some solar energy. what i'm looking for is something simple to start with, like how to power a few strings of x-mas lights. can anyone recommend what/where i should purchase to make this happen? i need the most basic answers at this point and the most straight forward way to do this. when i'm more familiar with how it all works i can branch out into 'tinkering' and more creative ideas.

for now: where to purchase everything i may need to power a few strings of lights? what exactly should i purchase? like maybe there's a kit that would have everything i need to get started, one comes with very good instructions.

here's the sob story so that you'll feel sorry for us ;o)

i have my ticket for BM through conclave. my BF and are very very tight on funds - we got him a ticket off an acquaintance for only $200! but it got lost in the mail :( so - we are filing a claim (it was registered/insured with USPS) but won't get the money for a long time.

if anyone has a spare ticket, we're hoping to find one around $240-250 or less (and willing to barter as well), please let me know! we are both near/in philly pretty often and would love to get it in person rather than trust any delivery service.

Had a fun time yesterday! Thank you to all who supported and came out to the event!

Thank you to Ferrer Construction for building the outdoor dancefloors & setting up and tearing down.

The party did indeed go off! We met everyone who came and made some great new friends as well as spent time catching up with old ones.

The party ran from about 1pm until we shut the music off at 8pm. We spent the next hour and a half cleaning up.

As a courtesy to our DJ friends we called the final set of DJs to thank them for their support and dedication to us, the music, and to the event. We all agreed that we will continue to work together to support, promote, and produce great music and events. This event was no exception.

Thank you again to all who supported and for all the really positive people who believe in events like this one. Our money, time, and effort was well spent as always when we get positive support backed by action! THANK YOU!

Fake Transformus Invites/Tickets being sold by aphemix@gmail.com

I am writing to let you know that some members of our community bought some fraudulent ticket to Transformus from someone using the email aphemix@gmail.com

I am trying to work out the details now, but it appears that he posted an ad on our classifieds and was emailed by 6 people (that we can tell right now) that ended up purchasing over $1300 worth in total of fake invite codes. He is based in the Pennsylvania area, which is why I am posting this in your group.

I spent a long while yesterday tracking down all the information I could on this scammer and will gladly pass this info along in private, for legal purposes, to anyone that need it. As far as Transformus, LLC, there isn't much legal action we can take since it was not a Transformus sale that took place, but I urge everyone that got got sold fake invites to alert your local authorities and also take action into finding more information about him.

Please contact Jace or Vespa if you have any further questions jace at transformus.com | Also if you are a event organizer or ANYONE that would like the info I have gathered on this individual, please hit me up....and if you happen to know this person personally, I would love to talk more with him about you.

the paypal account is DebiVO63@yahoo.com and says the name is Debi Violante, which is his mom

One more note, if you have bought or sold invites, even if you know they are real, please email jace at transformus.com and inform him of this transfer so we have a record of it

UPDATE: I have been in touch with the scammer and he has paid all but 2 people back after the threat of legal action. If anyone else has been taken by this sad individual, please contact Jace!

I am coming to Philly tonight through Saturday because a long distance friend is there through the weekend and I agreed to meet up with them there. We are probably going to site-see all Saturday afternoon. I though it would be cool to ask some of you if there are any burner events happening this weekend or in the evenings. Any fire spinning going on tonight or tomorrow? Cool DJing somewhere? I'm also simply just looking for any suggestions on places to go that are not necessarily touristicky. Since 2000 Camp Videogasm has run a 24' truck out and back
with stops in Wayne, PA (Philly suburb) and Woodhaven, MI
(Detroit suburb)

In a nutshell:

Cost $8/cu ft (fuel prices have gone up). Surcharge for
very dense items. Payment due in advance in order to
guarantee space.

Departs Wayne, PA on Monday, 8/18 for arrival in BRC on
Sat 8/23. Stopover in Woodhaven, MI on 8/19.

Leaves BRC on the *morning* of Labor Day, 9/1 (different from
prior years) Arrives back in Woodhaven on 9/4 or 9/5
and in Wayne on 9/6.

A spoken word stage features poetry readings, soap-box rants, comedy, slam

THE ART OF FREEDOM
An Interdisciplinary Arts Conference

August 28, 2008
Black Rock City, Nevada

How can we recognize, articulate, and navigate the politics of art and freedom? What are the roles of our communities, cultures, and societies in enabling or restricting arts and freedoms? What freedoms are needed to enable artistic expression? What limitations do we struggle against to achieve artistic freedom? How can freedom be experienced as a form of art? Can art create freedom?

THE ART OF FREEDOM is an Interdisciplinary Arts Conference that will take place on August 28, 2008 in Black Rock City, Nevada at Burning Man (www.burningman.com). Scholars and creative thinkers from all levels of education and experience are invited to submit proposals for panel presentations. Conference sessions will typically consist of panels of three 20-minute paper presentations, but we are also open to proposals with creative and unusual presentation formats (feel free to think outside the box!)

Possible presentation topics might include (but are not limited to):

* Inquiries related to Art, Freedom, and the “American Dream.”
* Considerations of Burning Man and its relation to culture, society, law, or politics.
* Discussions of specific Burning Man Art installations or projects.
* Presentations on censorship in relation to artistic freedom.
* Proposals for new directions in activism related to art and freedom.
* Explorations of the relationships between subcultural expression and “mainstream” cultures.

These are just a few sample topics – we are open to considering any presentation that offers an engaged and/or creative approach to the conference theme.

The conference will be hosted by Freedomcommunity at Burning Man, and all participants should be familiar with the unique conditions of the Black Rock City environment. Note that the minimum cost for attending Burning Man is over $200, so participants should already have plans to attend the festival or should be prepared to embrace the festival in its fullness.

Emiliano Solazzi Griminger (Moti Griminger) was born in December of 1974 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age of 11 his family and him immigrated to Beer Sheva, Israel, where he lived most of his life. At the age of 15 he started to take guitar lessons and by the age of 18 he was already leading a very succesful Israeli death metal band called CEREBRAL COMA, which had a mayor success in the international and national underground scene. In 1992, Emiliano hooked up with Ziv Matushka, another pioneer in the Israeli electronic music scene and, together, they started to experiment with more Industrial music and eventually writing Goa and Psy trance. Ziv joined P.Cok, and Emiliano continued his project as ENERTOPIA. The first single by Enertopia was released in 1996 by B.N.E Israel in a compilation called DESTINATION ISRAEL, and after a few months he was signed by KREMBO records. The first full length album was called MAGIC FOR ETERNITY, released in 1997, followed by the second album called FACE ADAPTOR which was cowritten with Yuli Fershtat AKA B.L.T, Perfect Stranger. In between 1996 and 1998 Enertopia have released two full albums and numerous singles. Now Enertopia is back with new material in the studio for his next album DIVINE under ORB records, already collaborating with talented artists around the globe such as A.P.E from Israel, OVERDREAM from Ukraine, LOKI from Amsterdam, Aural Invasion from Denmark. and more surprises to come.

Playa del Fuego Dog Ban and Ticket Cap Increase

At the Playa del Fuego Planning Committee meeting on March 8, 2008, it was voted to not allow dogs to be brought to Spring 2008 Playa del Fuego.

Participants are not permitted to bring dogs to Playa del Fuego this coming burn. Seeing eye and other Service dogs are still permitted.

It was also voted that the ticket cap be raised from 850 to 1000.

1) Name- Real Name Required (There is a contract). Name doesn't have to be used at time of display/event ; -p

2) Email address-

3) Cell phone-

4) List anyone helping you and his or her cell phone number so we can use that as an emergency back-up.

5) Past Experience- Please describe your past experience building burning art. Include location and total grant allocation, if possible.

6) Budget- Please list materials and cost. (Transportation issues will be mentioned later in this form)

7) Schedule- How long will it take you to assemble your piece? Will most of the assembly be done on site, or will you have it constructed before hand? (PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR PIECE MUST BE READY TO BURN NO LATER THAN 9 P.M. SATURDAY NIGHT)

8) Safety plan- How will you keep anyone from getting hurt when your piece burns?

9) Burn plan- How much of a perimeter will you need to burn safely? What kind of accelarants will you use?

10) Transportation plan- How will you get your piece/materials/tools to the site?

11) Tools Required- will you have your own? Will you have to borrow or buy more? PLEASE NOTE THAT PDF ALREADY HAS FIRE RAKES FOR CLEAN UP PURPOSES.

Invites!
We are using a new system for invites to address the likelihood that
more people will want to attend the event than we are able to
accommodate.

We are able to invite 1,500 people to the event this year. Each
invite will cost $55. Children age 5 and under enter free with legal
guardian.
One person may request one or two invites using a form that will be
available on the web site (www.transformus.com) starting at
12:00 noon (Eastern time) on Friday, February 29. You will have until
the end of the day on Sunday, March 9, to complete the form, so there
is no need to all rush at noon on Friday. (There is no advantage in
completing your form before others, as long as you meet the March 9
deadline.)
At that time, the first 1,350 invites will be determined from all the
requests that have been submitted.
We will inform you as soon as we have completed that process, no
later than March 16, and if we were able to invite you, you will have
until noon on April 9 to pay via PayPal.
We are going to repeat the process to distribute the remaining
invites.
Just like the first two years, we are going to issue electronic
instead of paper tickets. You will receive a souvenir paper ticket
when you arrive, but in order to gain entry each person must present
his or her own personal secret code that we will issue.
On or before February 28, more detailed instructions will be sent via
e-mail to the announcements list and posted on the web site at
www.transformus.com.
What you should do now:

Please go to www.transformus.com, create an account (if you
don't already have one) and make sure you can log in.
Contact web@transformus.com if you have any technical issues.
Stay tuned for detailed instructions via e-mail announcements and on
the web site.

Like many potent things, we are often simultaneously attracted to and fearful of fire, and for good reason. For many fire is associated with the erotic, the sensual, the sexual; it is aesthetically enchanting, mesmerizing in its dynamic beauty. But fire is also dangerous, and potentially destructive. To play with it is to dance with one of the most powerful, focus-and-respect-demanding partners imaginable. Contact fireplay is one way of dancing with fire. It is perhaps the most intimate, allowing the flames to caress you, allowing you to "hold" the flame. Contact fireplay can intensify sensually intimate partnered experiences, ritual performances, dance and other types of dramatic performances.
