hi,

i am flying into sacramento Monday night, staying in Davis (just outisde sacramento), and looking to head to burning man tuesday the 26th sometime late morning/early afternoon-ish, and then returning the following monday or tuesday (preferrably monday, but i am flexible on this). i would love to hitch a ride with someone, if possible (i will have probably two suitcases + water).

if i can't find a ride, i am willing to rent a car and drive, if someone would be able to share/help with costs.

Seeking Ride to the Playa...
So, as a few of my potential rides have fallen through (all leaving early to build something fantastical, go team go!)....
I find myself looking for a ride to the playa.
The ideal scenario would look something like this:
leave SF on **MONDAY** morning, preferably arrive on the playa before sunset. Cool with me to leave early tuesday as well.
I'll be traveling with a few bags, some camping gear, and a bike.
If you or anyone you know is down to head out on monday or early tuesday,and has room, do let me know.
I can offer in return: Gas money, share driving (tho' I don't drive stick) and positive, grounded, mellow and drama-free company on the road.

Offering a Ride to Buring Man from LA in 40' RV with 3 people Monday after work

We had a crazy mishap with our hybrid RV and therefore we opted for the Vegas-styled 40 footer, so we would love to add one or two great souls to offset the oil tanker rental we hired to fill this baby up. We will be all packed Sunday and then hit the road after work on Monday. There is one guy and two girls and all of us have been dusty many times.

If you are interested in one way or round trip then let me know ASAP. We are asking for only what you can afford. Preferably between $100 - $200 for gas and transportation.

I'm all ready to go to burning man, but I don't own a car, and I haven't had time to arrange transportation (All my friends are teachers going later in the week). Ride from Reno to BRC on 28th

So here's the deal: I'm going up early from Los Angeles, leaving Wednesday the 20th (tomorrow!) and am staying at BRC and working with Greeter's through the 24th, when I have to leave to fly back down to L.A. because I'm starting a Master's Degree program in Library Science and I can't miss the first week of classes. Wah!

Anyway, I'm flying back up to Reno on Thursday the 28th (arriving at 7:30 PM) and I'm looking for a ride back out to BRC that evening. I'd love to have a pre-arranged ride rather than wing it when I get there. I'm more than happy to share with costs/driving etc. If anyone can help out, let me know. I'll be out of contact after tomorrow evening, but I'll be back in L.A. from the 24th to the 28th and I'll have full Internet access then.

I'm bummed I can't be there for the duration, but I'm glad I get to go up a little early, I love being on Playa pre-burn! See you there!

Rideshare from Boise Area

I am leaving to go to BRC on Sunday the 24th and returning sometime Monday the 1st. I had a few people that were going to ride with me but they bailed today for various reasons.

Anyway - here is the situation. I have a 34 foot RV that I am driving and wonder if anyone from the Treasure Valley is still looking for a ride. Basically I will chauffeur you and your gear to the playa and bring you back. All I ask is that you share in some fuel expenses. There is a couch and chair as well as table and bathroom available to you for comfortable transportation. Kick back and drink a beer - or several (please don't get puking drunk!). Relax and don't worry about it! The goal is to be there right at gate opening! I will drop you and your gear off at the campsite of your choosing and then will head to Stag Camp where I will be for the week. If anyone is interested, please let me know!!

South Carolina to BRC, Have space for 1 or 2

Anyone else crazy enough to think about trying for a drive out to the desert? With flights being what they are, if I could get just one more person (2 would be even better) to split gas costs with, and share driving, I'd just as soon hit the road.

I want to get out there by Monday, the first day. Want to be out there for the whole week, to see the city grow. I'll stay till the burn, but will need to leave soon after- IE, Sunday morning, MAYBE Monday morning at the VERY latest. Want to avoid massive unhappy exodus traffic, too.

I'm talking hardcore driving- its 2500 miles out there from my place in South Carolina. Googlemaps says its about 40 hours. I want to do it in 2 days, both ways. Sleep in the car, eat at truck stops, that sort of thing. Figure a few hours in Winnemucca or Reno to get the rest of the supplies (perishables) for the week there.

I have a truck that will make it, and a small trailer to haul stuff in. I _may_ have a station wagon, but it is undergoing repairs right now and obviously I want to make sure whatever vehicle we take is 100%. Either way, gas costs will be about $1200, or $600 each if I get one crazy ass fool to take me up on this offer. $400 each if I find two crazy ass fools. (Miss Kitten will be flying out later in the week, btw).

Interested parties should be able to afford that kind of dough, plus whatever expenses we incur along the way for food. Must have a driver's license, and probably be able to drive stick. No axe murderers. I'm flexible on music; you should be too. I'll be leaving the Friday afternoon before out of the Greenville, SC area and can pick up along the way (ie Asheville, etc) or you can meet me at my place. And, of course, you must be agreeable to all the rest of the above.

"Group of virgins looking for ONE more person to share in gas / motel expenses for the trip too and from BRC. We have 1 more spot available in my Toyota Tacoma crew cab, which will be towing a 16 foot flat bed trailer. I'll be the only one driving unless you are experienced in pulling a big ass trailer.

I would like to leave midday on Friday the 22 and be at the gates of BRC Monday morning. So preferably be at our house Thursday night and crash on the couch so we can have the trailer all packed up. We'll depart the playa Monday, Sept 1, getting back to DC late on Thursday the 4th.

I've got room to take your bike, we'll be towing a small trailer.

I've done this trip four years now, we'll be riding in a nice SAAB Convertible 2006
with XM radio and your ipod.

I am leaving from Missouri but plan to pass thru Nebraska and Fort Collins, CO. since I have friends there. I want to arrive at the playa early Monday morning, 98/25, and leave Sept. 1 ... I don't want to miss a minute!!
A first timer (virgin) at Burning Man, I've joined up with the lamplighters ... sounds like a great group who work hard and play hard, like me.
I'm an artist, restore historic buildings, and love to have fun. I am in my 50's and bike and do Yoga.
I drive a Toyota extended cab pick-up with a camper top. I'll load my bike, art supplies and costumes in the back, but there will undoubtedly be room for one more, especially if you can help with the driving and help cover some gas costs.

Returning home from Burning Man Sunday, August 31st (after the temple burn).

Hello :)

We will be taking an RV out this year and are looking for a few to do a ride/cost share with us. The RV is about 10 years old but still in decent condition. Ideally, we would like to share camp with the person we do a share with and have them involved in the camp itself (planning, ideas, art, assembly, tear-down, etc), but we are also open to anyone who would just like to share the ride portion of the journey. The RV can sleep six, assuming two beds be shared.

The details…

- The RV is a 27’ Tioga Arrow with two twin beds in the back, fold down double bed where the table is, and a double bed above the cab. There are actually a couple other places that work as sleeping spots too. :)

Though the RV has all the perks (bathroom, a/c, built in generator, and water tank) we try to only use the RV as much as possible for a shelter from the elements and a clean sleep area. We cook on the stoves and use water from the tank on a rationed basis. The bathroom is generally only for emergencies. And yes, once in awhile the a/c does come on. :\

- Camp this year is going to be a nice lounge camp. I have already built a 15’ X 15’ Monkey Hut based on Love Monkeys plans. There will be a lean-to style tarp tent in the back of the RV where water stored on the roof can be used for washing hair and feet. (If you need a full shower – we suggest baby wipes – water truck works too, but I have never mastered that!) We have decided to go with super bright LED lighting and marine fixtures (One atop a flagpole for locating camp). Was originally going to build the standard evaporation pond, but have since decided to create an evaporation machine. Help with this would be much appreciated. Will probably have tent inside monkey hut for daytime snoozing. Haven’t gotten to all the specifics yet, but ideas are flooding in faster than money, which is the way this usually happens.

There are two of us for sure so far. My name is Shaun. I am 28 years old and from San Jose, California. This will be my third burn. Melissa is 27 and from Portland, Oregon. She is a BM Virgin and has no idea what she’s getting into.... muahaha. She will be flying down to ride out. There may be one or two people on that end that are interested and there may be one or two people on this end that are interested, but I hate planning the BM trip at the last minute. Looking for people who are ready to get this thing going.

Share Costs:
It takes quite a bit of gas to bring one of these RVs out there, but in the long run, I think it breaks very close to what it would cost for multiple cars and equipment needed that the RV already provides. This is not a rental RV but owned. Most of the structural stuff I have paid for but for the remaining items to be constructed, help would be awesome! Assuming the gas does not dramatically jump (too late) by the time burning man rolls around, these are about the best estimates for share costs (Including Melissa and me)

Camp Share:
3 People = 225.00 – 250.00
4 People = 175.00 – 200.00
6 People = 125.00 – 150.00 (Rationing will not cut the demand with 6 people)
**This might be a bit high, but factors in the additional water needed, containers, gas cost, and possible honey wagon service (though that can be a play it by year kind of thing). Anything unused will be given back.

Just for the Ride:
Probably about 75.00 each unless we get 5+.

I would like to find people that are local (bay area or south bay) that are interested in helping plan this adventure – we are also looking for some really great people to spend the burn with. We are friendly to recreational activities though expect it be done responsibly.

Before you Leave for the burn

When getting ready to pack up and head out of town a couple of ideas for your check list....

Does you vehicle need to be serviced? there is no cell phone service for a good part of the drive, so braking down is a huge hassle. Make sure your vehicle is road worthy before leaving. Check you tires on your vehicle/trailer/motorhome/bus. make sure that they are properly inflated and in good condition. Don't forget the spare tire either. Make sure that you have a roadside emergency kit including flares, jumper cables, jack, etc.

Tie your stuff down properly. Bring extra tiedowns for the trip home.

Check your headlights, taillights, blinkers.

Check your glovebox. Make sure that you have current registration and insurance for you vehicle before leaving.

Safe Driving Reminder

I'm sure that this info has been posted elsewhere before, but here we go again.....

When driving to the burn, you pass through a couple of small towns on Indian reservation land. BE WARE of the speed limit changes. THey drop to 25MPH and quickly. Take it slow throught these towns, the reservation police are out in force and will pull you over for going even 5 MPH over the speed limit. This will start a chain reaction that usually leads to searching the vehicle. You Don't want that!

While on the highway, there are rabits that will run out in front of the car. We like to call these the suicidal bunnies. It sucks, but don't try to swerve to avoid. The sides of the road are very soft and will cause you to have a wreck.

Try to not overload your vehicles, this makes navigating the narrow road much harder.

PLEASE slow down and don't block the road when going through Empire and Gerlach. The town residents are very gracious to allow us to invade their town. It is also easier to buy gas before you get to the gate versus after the event. The root beer floats at the empire store are also highly recomended.

Early Entry Reminder

Just a quick reminder as we all get ready to go to the burn....

If you are not on an early arrival list- You will NOT be allowed to get in early. This is a condition set by the BLM and they can revoke the permit for Burning Man at any time.

If you are using a ride share and are on the early arrival list, make sure that everyone in your vehicle is on the list. They've sent out emails in the past confirming early arrival and the date, I haven't heard yet if that will be happening again this year. If you make it all the way out to the gate and someone in your car isn't on the list, ALL of you will be turned around.

Ok- off of my soap box for now. I hope for safe travels for all of you as you make your way home.

I am coming from Bahrain and flying into SFO on the Friday before the event this year (on August 22, 2008). I'll be hitting up my storage space in San Jose to pick up gear, and will likely be on the early entry list. If all goes right, I'll be heading out to Tahoe that evening, and then picking up a bike in Reno on Saturday and going to the event.

At this point, I've reserved a rental car and would be interested in getting someone to share the driving and gas costs. In the alternative, if you have a vehicle and space and your plans kinda match up with mine, I'd be willing to explore giving up some radical self-reliance for a shared experience and splitting your gas costs.

Looking for two people willing to split gas and toll charges from the Massachusetts/ southern New Hampshire area, i will be leaving on the 23rd or the 24th and plan to drive straight there with as few stops as possible except for one in reno for supplies and to meet with people who will be in my camp. Need atleast one person able to confidently drive a standard.

I have a subaru legacy station wagon so there should be plenty of room in the car for stuff, and there is always the roof! I will be bringing a bike rack, with room for more bikes. Expecting 26-30 MPG.

Ride Offering - SF to BRC and back

Greets and Grins! Here's the deal. Burning virgin from SF making the trip early on Monday as my goal is to be in place to catch the eclipse late Monday - early Tuesday a.m. I just got a rack for the top of my Element and a bike rack which should work well on the back (still need to do a test w/ it). I've removed the back seats so there is room for my gear and for someone is who is traveling light. I am camping solo so I do have a small mountain of stuff along with a bunch of hoola hoops.
I would like to offer a ride to some in SF or at least someone that could come to SF. Together we can pack up the car and away we go. I'm a light smoker who can refrain while driving but might want to take a smoke break along the way.
I'm easy to get along with as long as you are chill and like to laugh.
Male or female, young or not so young, it's all good. Would be great if you could chip in on petrol.
Flexible w/ return date....either 9/3 or 9/4.

Ride from Phoenix/Las Vegas to Burning Man in an RV

Room for one or two people and their gear in exchange for gas money. Leaving Phoenix early Saturday, August 25th, and then leaving the playa early Monday morning September 3rd (packing up Sunday). Can also pick people up in Las Vegas or anywhere else along this route:

Anyone looking for a ride from LA to the playa?

Hey guys!

Unfortunately my beloved friend who was going to ride with me is very ill and will not be able to go to BM.

I plan to leave saturday night (Aug 25th) to meet up with some friends in Tahoe were we will chill out all day sunday and leave butt early monday morning.

We plan to leave the following monday morning and once again chill in Tahoe to decompress a bit before hitting the road early tuesday morning.

Although you are more than welcome to stay in Tahoe with me and my friends I would perfer someone who already has a playa home established.

If this plan works out for you please give me a call.

Seats are still available for a flight back to the SF bay area (or any where in the flight path) from Black Rock City Spaceport! Fly back to your default home from Burning Man, and watch the playa swallow BRC, as it shrinks bellow you.
Just think, in just 2 hours you could eat, shower, pull the shades and slip into your own bed! How sweet is that. . .

I'm all ready and excited for my first burn! I've got everyhing- the supplies, camp, good energy- except for the ride to and back from burning man. Unfortunately, my ride situation fell through and I'm looking for a good soul to help me get there and back.I live here in SF in the inner sunset and would be happy to help with gas/food/packing/driving etc. I'm flexible on the timing of going but was thinking ideally of driving up sunday/monday and coming back next monday- but i'm open to change for the ride. Since this is my first burn, i'm aiming to pack light. I'm a mellow guy with great energy who loves roadtrips and am especially excited . I need a ride!!! my friends truck broke down (he drove it from NC to Alaska.. and was planning to drive it down to Sacramento and pick me up) and as of now I have no way of getting to BRC or getting back (but I have plenty of time to figure THAT out).

As of now, I have a flight arriving in Sacramento at noon on sunday the 26. so im trying to find a ride from there... or get one from LA where I live. I just need enough room for me and a duffel bag.

I just found out that my boyfriends truck just died! It needs a new clutch and a new tranny. It is going to cost us $1899 to fix it . I am performing in the conclave on the night of the burn and really have to be there!! My group is depending on me!! I am also perfoming on wednesday night! I don't know any way I can get there with my boyfriend and our stuff. (we dont have a lot of stuff, just what we need)
If anyone could help that owuld be greatly appreciated. It is my first burn and I have already spend over a grand on things for the burn. I just found out and I feel like crying! I need an angel to help me get to burning man! please, if you guys know anything that could help me please tell me!

Fly into BRC Spaceport for Burning Man!

Arrive in style and speed to Burning Man, by way of Black Rock City Spaceport! Ya thats right, flying straight into BRC is one of the most spectacular ways to penetrate the playa. I have room on a small private plane to arrive at the BRC spaceport Wednesday evening. Im leaving from Salinas around 2-3pm. So this is open to anyone in the the flight path from Salinas to Black Rock City. This includes San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, ect.
This flight take less than a couple of hours, so you arrive refreshed and ready to party! No drive hangover, or highway zombie syndrome!
This is carry-on luggage flight only, so you must arrange for some one to transport your gear and bikes ahead of time.
The more people to fly the cheaper it is, but limited seating. And not as expensive as you think!
PM me for expenses. Good luck, and see you on the playa!
