Got my postcard today in the mail, with ticket information about BM 2008! Suddenly getting very excited, and only oh, 8 months or so until we all head out to the Playa again. :)
This year's theme for me will be burning on a budget - I'm planning to apply for a scholarship ticket, and checking Craigslist regularly for all the free camping equipment and other goodies that I can scoop up prior to the event. (Last year's "rent an RV without paying attention to just how much that was going to cost" plan definitely isn't going to work again for this debt-riddled grad student... lol) I figure with some work and energy, I can really cut costs - and I already have accumulated a lot of costumes fortunately. I may not have anything tangible to give as gifts, but I definitely plan to volunteer before and during!
What are other people's plans for the burn this year?

Re: Postcard!
Tue, December 18, 2007 - 9:25 AMWell, since we have our infrastructure well established, that's done. Just need to go over everything and see what needs repair and fine tuning. Our camp is small, but we provide support and shelter for four to six folks flying in and camping with the four of us. I don't want to get much bigger, the resources get strained. Tickets and gas and consumables will be the biggest expenses for camp.
The Home for Wayward Art, again, I've already begun hitting the thrift shops and buying art supplies on sale. I love the Home!
This year I want to do another placed theme art installation; I did one in 2005 and loved it. Might ask for a day in early, between the installation and the Home, half our week was eaten up timewise. I already have sunk money into it; adding to the Bucky family.
I am not buying gift tickets this year. If I get reduced price tickets for any reason, I'll sell the more expensive ones at a reduced rate locally. -

Tue, December 18, 2007 - 9:54 AMMaya, it is possible to do Burning man well on a budget. Good for you to be planning it now. Most people wait til late July to realize they can't afford the trip.

Re: Postcard!
Thu, January 3, 2008 - 1:18 PMThis will be the first time in four years I'll be sitting out the burn, but I console myself with a relaxing honeymoon around the same time that doesn't involve transporting half my house to the desert!
I plan to contribute in a small way from a distance.......maybe some art for Anti M, some random postcards or the like. Sending a little off-playa love to the intrepid burners!

Re: Postcard!
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 12:03 PMYay! I got mine too.
Last year was our first year and we didn't really track the expenses very well. I can't believe how much we spent! All that neon long pile fur adds up. Luckily, we'll be able to reuse a lot this year. So hopefully it will be much cheaper.
