Hi folks!

I was not sure where to put this, so I thought I'd create a new topic!

T. B. here, Navy, 1983-7. Served off the East Coast.

So don't use any of that Army lingo on me or I'll have to bust some Bosun rope moves. ;)

Nice to meet Y'all! I am a Virgin to BM but.. yes, I have had desert survival training, read the Playa Guide, and am planning to come with a camp of 6 year BM Vets. So I have my basics met. I'm looking forward to gifting my camp with Goulash tho ;) Don't tell!

Keep yer Gigline straight,

Welcome! Are you a fellow Boatswain's Mate? I think that if you are, then you're the first I've found to share this in common with me... in the Burning Man culture, that is.

Hey! Well sorry to disappoint you but I wasn't a rated BM. ;) I am sailor in RL tho, so I can fake it pretty well!

Come to think of it, I have learned a lot more about the ropey arts since I was in than WHEN I was in.

So, maybe we can bust a move and chat about Bowlines, monkey fists, turks heads and hitches sometime! Or failing that, beer. Which is always interesting.

And we can lament the landlubber's lack of knowledge of erudite terms like port, starboard, bow, stern, abaft, aft, for'd, focs'le and Head.

You know.. I STILL call it the head sometimes. I stopped using "overhead", "ladder" and "deck" on land years ago tho. Also "cover" instead of "hat". That actually took me a few years. Goes to show you what makes the biggest impression.

      Fair Winds and Following Seas!

I still have head and rack stuck in my vocabulary, mush to the amusement of my non-sailor friends.

What's really funny is when I confused military slang for Burner slang and medieval slang. I also throw 1337 speak in there for extra geekiness. A typical conversation consists of:

"Dubeyu tee eff, pick up that MOOP and throw it away in the privey!"
