Having a hard time organizing a regional and staying in the neurosciences here in TX.
Hoping to network, or at best stay in touch with my favorite subject while I toil away for the man outside my chosen field.
Yeah, I'm a Computer Science freak into AI and neuroscience, but I've been doing it in a lab for 5 years spanning 8 years.
All of you that I invited were the result of the search "neuroscience burning". I look forwad to meeting y'all :) and getting to know some burners with shared interest flung all over the world.
I also thing the formation of Burning 'professional' societies could collectively form an earthquake that could change the world in more profound ways than just the art we build for our autonomous zones...
-Cheers,

Re: Welcome home freak :)
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 10:40 AMYou, my dear, are a genius. And a lunatic. Like most Burners. :)
Heeeee!
So. I will post about my Gnosis Online Discovery System under separate cover. I'm a computer geek, QA Engineer, web monkey, interested in AI, Nanotechnology, Neuroscience, Gene Therapy, Astrophysics, Particle Physics... y'know, any cool scientific shit there is out there, basically.
I did one year of college back in 1990-1991... took a bunch of time off to figure out what the heck I want to do with my life. I'm an artist, singer, songwriter, composer, piano player... writer, poet and creative nutjob, all round. But I want to go back to school for Neuroscience. I will need to get a bachelor's in whatever will best prep me for Neuroscience Grad School. Just starting to research this.
I have very specific research goals... we do not understand the brain well enough to effectively create medication for various disorders, such as bipolar, borderline, schizophrenia, PMDD (more hormonal/endocrinological than neurons, but you get the idea)... etc. So, I'd like to study the relationship between the seratonin system, the dopamine system, how they effect these various disorders and come up with far more precise and effective treatments. I think we can do a lot with biofeedback, visual and audio stimulation, and perhaps work with the pharmaceutical companies to come up with a new treatment protocol that is more effective and has less harmful side effects. Yes, I am ambitious.
I also want, for fun, to study the effects of various psychedelic drugs on the human brain with a particular focus on Ayahuasca. Preliminary research by some folks in the field seems to indicate that Ayahuasca might be rerouting your pathways AND creating more seratonin receptors, but a real in depth study has yet to be done on this subject, and I really MUST know what is going on in there!
:)
Thanks for the invite! Great idea!
