Well, the word for today seems to be SHIT!!!
This was just posted to the Transformus list. I'm trying to get more details, but as of the moment the Transformus site seems to be gone, and I'm figuring that's because Transformus' webmaster, Mustang, has pulled it down.
This is his post in response to several emails (attached at the bottom) where Sir William and Kelly (from the TF BOD) are discussing how wonderful their ethics are, and how they are going to change the world with all this...
I know that Mustang is a stand up guy. I didn't think he would be involved with anything less than ethical. Seems like he wouldn't, after all.
I apologize for any unathorized use of this post in reposting it, but, I think folks need to see it.
I guess this means there WAS something fishy about the 'invite' process...
Oh, this sucks!
****************************************************************************************************************************************
From Mustang:
Priceless. The scammer who routinely demanded special treatment for his "theme camp" -- "we can do this. we are loved." -- and always seemed to get it. pfft. You, with other ill-motivated people, have damaged your daughter's view of her place in the world with your petty dealing and shameful sense of entitlement. You, "Sir William," are a complete fraud. Shame isn't even worth mentioning to the likes of you.
And the trainwreck of a person who abandoned the ticket project when I rejected participating on her idea of a frat boy/rush week form (attached). Just wonderfully hilarious. Shows where people are really coming from. Folks, you need to know that several of these people hold you in contempt, have no instinct to respect anyone, let alone so-called principles (they seem to enjoy mocking them), and seem to share a conspiracy over past questionable business practices that may well have legal consequences. And somewhere in the mix here is a member of the NC Bar Association. Again, hilarious. I have never encountered such a petty, underhanded group of people in my life, and I haven't exactly been sitting in a mountain hollow the whole time.
I might be removed from this list before Gizmo can even jump in to try to change the subject again, because countless folks have held a conspiracy to lie to outsiders about your shared, dirty past, involving hundreds of tickets that were not sold as advertised, and all about the apparent fraud perpetrated in prior years with a gaping back door for "important people" and other unspecified related favors. And destroying business records will send you to jail, folks. This is very probably business fraud and other crimes in a prosecutor's eyes, and I look forward to being on the witness stand for the prosecution.
Lastly, if anyone attempts to make unauthorized use of my copyrighted and prioprietary materials, I will be forced to seek redress in the courts, which I reserve the right to pursue in any case.
And I want my $110 back.
Bye y'all.

Chincilla and Sir William, thanks for your words. I also believe that this is the beauty of the burner world, what is so amazing about it. We should all take what we treasure in those wonderful days on the mountains or those magical days in the desert into our everyday lives. Why is burning man so successful? Why are transformus invites so hard to get? Because of the beauty that we find at these events. Unfortunately, we miss this beauty in our daily lives and we must survive in a world that does not always value our dreams. However, we must strive to incorporate expression, dreams, beauty, art, community building, individual rsponsibility and LNT in our everyday lives.....thats it, that is what this big party is all about.

Chinchilla/miss fancy hit it right ....
on my application form for a low cost playa ticket, i wrote something to the efffect that the burner community represented, to me, the antidote to many of the things we see as wrong with our society.
"We are dreamers who take action, we are people who want to change the world. We are people who will change the world. Believe it."
This might be seen as a "hippie" type of principle, but no matter. We care. We are the contemporary mutation of all the rebels that have come before that in one way or another have tried to address the ills all around us and re-infuse life with meaning and freedom and vibrancy and wonder; alive-ness.
Riding on the Love Boat with you one evening, chinchilla, you turned to me and remarked that i always seemed to have a glow of joy about me. It does not take me too long, once i am surrounded by you all and what we are doing, to be bathed in an invigorating spirit, an immutable love, a joyous transformation and inspiration that will stay with me the other days of the year and guide me to do what needs to be done to really change the world. Don't let anyone ever tell you that this is all superficial, big party, window dressing. This all has far-reaching effects; this goes deep into our souls and the ripples travel far to places we cannot see. Believe it.
heart to the sky,
sir william

Believe it.
heart to the sky,
sir william

Re: Transformus on Fire
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 2:44 PMWow, this is turning out to be a really challenging year for Transformus! Maybe that makes this work even more important. Also, if there's anything we can do to help the Tfus, burn, we should do it. -

Re: Transformus on Fire
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 2:54 PMYeah, I agree!
Finding out WTF is going on is probably REALLY important. I'll do what I can.
I have offered the BOD any help that I can offer, many times, but I don't know how to help with this, or even what to think, really.

Re: Transformus on Fire
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 4:55 PMin my humble opinion, i think we should go free.
if no one is in it to make money, then you don't attract greedy people to ruin the fun. i am a great web programmer and promoter and so are many other people. all we are really talking about at the core is a great party.
i have never been to transformus, but i have had plenty of dealings with shady people and they are best left to themselves. Seriously we should really try to keep it free, and if we have to have money involved may-be we could do by donation at the party, with the few among us that we know we can trust.
that is really sad though, i hope the party is a go, i have friends that have bought tickets and i am sure they are going to be really upset if they can't go and they can't get how ever much it cost back.

Re: Transformus on Fire
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 10:55 PMAll right;
I've read the whole thing, now, and I'm confused, a bit.
I know what *I* don't like about the invite process, but I'm (I think) clueless as to why Mustang is upset. I could identify all the things I don't like, but that would just piss everyone off and start arguments that lead nowhere... but: what is the shadiness? Guaranteeing one's own ticket? Denying others on the basis of the questionnaire? I'm a bit confused. Can someone explain it?
Basically, I gave up on Transformus quite early on, and though the reasons are diverse, the more personal notes at the bottom of the OP do sum it up rather well. Do I talk about that, or no?
Conflicts of this nature are regrettable in the extreme - the thing I see keeping 'burner culture' from being relevant is just this kind of acrimony between people of radically different politics that have been trained to mouth the same platitudes. Insistence on conformity and lack of sincere commitment to anarchistic goals plague my early love for Burning Man - I could easily put up with the grandstanding, ego worship, narcissism, hypocrisy, and waste if there were a commitment to *actually* establishing an alternative idea of community. Unfortunately, in BM's community as well as, apparently, now Tfus's, there is only commitment to *the party* and very little sincere work toward the anarchistic cooperative unity that made BM so amazing and special in the '90s, and so tragically unlovable (to me) once *ideals* were replaced by a list of rules that homogenize expected response and ensure a vast overabundance of people who *only* want to party.
If respect is codified, it can't be authentic. That is, if you're telling me what respect is and demanding I show it to you, you'll never really have my actual respect - you'll be satisfied with a facsimile or shoot me for never obeying.
Bleah. But yeah: what's the deal? Again, I know what *I* don't like about it - what is it that Mustang reacted to? Somebody tell Mustang to call me. On re-read it seems like we're on the same wavelength. I like the positivity of those who want to help, but have just been rubbed too far the wrong way by individuals seeming to hold the reigns of the event to bother straining and injuring / impoverishing myself to make such people think I'm cool.
I think the simplest way I can put it is: if there's to be an alternative to post-industrial / technofascist culture, then there should be *a different culture* involved with the attempt. Playing hierarchy games, making a big deal out of our toys, and dressing up to get drunk *are* the "default world". Recreating it with merely different costume is not progressive nor inspiring. It's sexy, yes, but I'm monogamously married now and my wife is very, very hot, so, the whole 'see and be seen' thing resonates rather less for me than the opportunity to have my hard work really *mean* something. -

Re: Transformus on Fire
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 11:19 AMI don't get what's going on...
Is the point system thing how "invites" really were issued? As in, it was most definately NOT a lottery system? And that's the fuss? -
-
Re: Transformus on Fire
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 1:21 PMNo, that was an idea for a future burn and was largely scrapped. It looks like that's part of what set Mustang off, but from what I gather, nobody knows the whole story, at least, none that are saying anything. As long as Mustang remains silent, we can only guess.
As of now, I wouldn't worry about anything. If you can help in any way, do it. The invite info is intact, and the rest of the BOD is still having a burn. It might take a week or so to iron out the wrinkles.
