Okay y'all, we have a deadline coming up, so there's a hurry on about picking a name (we need to do something about it so we can register a domain, and get tickets on sale by the end of the week).
So far our lead suggestion in the voting seems to be Altburnative.
Okay with y'all if we register that domain tomorrow and go with it? I know I said we could vote 'till April 27 but I was just wrong...:(

I like AltBurnative because it makes for an easy domain name. The dot in "alt.burn" would cause some technical problems.
If AltBurnative is still winning, then I'll register it tomorrow and get the website moving. -

If you liked one of the other suggestions in the Name That Event discussion, but it's not in the poll, just holler it out.
I personally loved the Plain Smelly Beeches suggestion, I am totally in to make that a theme camp!!
I can't figure out how to add them to the poll without losing the previous results.

Backfire or Plain Smelly Beeches - cuz ain't we all a bunch of smelly beeches after a few days with no showers, no sleep and lots of play. :P -

Mon, April 14, 2008 - 10:56 AMIf my rudimentary math skills are correct on this, so far we've got a total of nine votes (one was not recorded in the poll), with SNEECH having two votes, and AltBurnative having gotten three, and others having gotten single votes.
SC Libertine, you had originally voted for SNEECH, I'm presuming you've changed your vote to Backfire now? I'm a little uncomfortable with the copyright violation issue with SNEECH anyway...
Presuming Unga Bunga John would want to use his own idea...that puts AltBurnative and Backfire in the name leads with three and two votes, respectively.
And everyone, I know this isn't the most totally democratic and perfect way of deciding an event name en masse, so y'all forgive me if I screwed up somehow and you're not happy with the name eventually selected. I think this whole event organizing process will be a big learning experience, what to do and what not to do, and to me the important thing is that right or wrong, we're doing it in the open.
I'm still saving my vote for the last minute tie breaker or whatever, so we can move forward with Pete's ever so generous offer to get us a website going on. Thanks again Pete, you rock!!

Once it's up, I think it would be an interesting experiment to put things like this up for vote. I'd like to be able to restrict it by account (to enforce one vote per person). I can probably find a polling system we can put on the site or write one myself. It'll be an experiment in demaburning (that's not a name suggestion, BTW, I don't think the name should suggest that we're burning people). -
