Forwarded from Karine at BWB:
I just talked to Breandon in Cedar Rapids today, and
he said he's been working down there since June.
You can read more about it from the links below.
His updates include : he has moved out of the house he
was living in/ renting and into a church nearby. FEMA
has pulled the porta-pottys near worksites, and now he
has to go back to the church to take a dump if he
needs to in the middle of the day. He is working in
tangeant with the Hands On organization and volunteer
numbers are now dwindling. He's asking for support
from the burner community yet again, and I told him
maybe we can at least spread the word and try to get
his pleas into our community boards. They need help
and the situation is getting harsher. Several
volunteers who had been in Cedar Rapids, and who went
to the desert were trying to bring awareness to Cedar
Rapids, and I fear their news got trumped by Gustav.
There are currently no other volunteers related to
Burning Man there at this time. Breandon does have,
however, a camping area available and the residents
ARE in need of fresh help! There is space for a camp
to be set up. Even one extra person or two could
really be of help. They are currently drywalling, and
gutting and mucking out flooded homes that haven't
been touched. The nights are getting colder (down to
around 40 deg F at night). A recent report, he claims,
are that 4,000 homes were affected. They've cleaned
and gutted about 280 themselves with Hands On, and
reports say there are 800-1,000 homes that are still
untouched.
Not all of us can pack up and set up camp in Cedar
Rapids, gettin' dirty... but thanks, if you can help
spread the word. A few motivated individuals could
make a big difference.

If you bring a tent, there is plenty of space to
camp. A very nice gentleman is allowing BWB to camp
on his property and have use of the showers and water
in the house for as long as we are working. Food is
taken care of. The people of Cedar Rapids and the
surrounding areas have been baking lunch and dinner
everyday and setting up in scattered schools and
churches, offering free meals for volunteers. Its a
nice set up. I encourage people to come down.
Anyone planning on heading that way, Call me. I'll
get you set up - Breandan McNulty - (847) 712-9336.
