Re: Ok Port Selling Pros n Cons???
Mon, February 27, 2006 - 10:28 PMpros? there's no way something good is not going to come out of this whole thing. There's no one who doesn't have a seat at the table on this one. There's just no way to avoid ending up with a solid consensus on it. Which is highly unusual for something Washington has an influence on in these recent years.
Cons?
No. I guess not. When long awaited rain starts falling from a cloudy sky you know that lots of dry plants are going to be getting a drink.

Re: Ok Port Selling Pros n Cons???
Tue, February 28, 2006 - 8:14 AMbeautifully put.
I'm not choosing a side on this its way over my head as far as controversey goes but a lot of people belive this all biols down to oil and i do agree. the usa and every other country needs to relise that we all are not self sufficient to last forever cutting off the rest of the world. But we have to embrace eachother in order to live in harmoney. There are severe pros and cons in this area. But Since it belongs to the british anyways i dont really belive america has a say in this anymore. Why the hell we sold our american soil to a foreign contry is beyond me as well, but please dont think me a racist. I'm not... I just dont understand why we dont have control over our own soil it was really stupid for them to sell it to anybody but the occupying community. But like I said I'm not in the oil business so this is completely over my head i would greatly appreciate enlightenment on this one...BB -

Re: Ok Port Selling Pros n Cons???
Fri, March 3, 2006 - 9:01 PMWhatever people were thinking in November 2004, there's beginning to look like some new hope we might actually learn something interesting.
Something interesting about how we think about our government.
The dilemma here is bigger and more useful than a Scooter Libby scandal would ever be. Just as the President stood before a door in China he suddenly discovered was not going to open, now he stands in an American doorway of sorts that he will discover there is just no way of closing. He's going to need that sense of humor about himself again.
The thing to understand here is that this is not one of those kinds of questions that needs any definitive answer anytime soon. The more the country dwells on it the better it is for the country. It gets a little boring not having an answer after awhile but I daresay I think it will not have a definitive answer. It can only go away slowly. This thing here is not a bottle which contains a piece of a puzzle. It is the bottle opener.
It will continue pulling the lids off all the other bottles and pour the contents back into a unified country again. Our President has some interestingly consistent political strategies but he has finally stumbled into an inevitable fact : Life is complex.

Re: Ok Port Selling Pros n Cons???
Sat, March 11, 2006 - 8:46 AMWell it's not exactly a definitive kind of thing but Dubai has withdrawn its pitch. Doesn't exactly bring an answer to what our country expects to happen and expects of the president the next time someone like Dubai takes a similar interest in certain kinds of American assets (and of course, will such deals just come to pass in an even less obvious manner over the next three years?). Who's to know? I think Bush is a better pal for Dubai than most of our own Country.
He probably knew Dubai wouldn't make him veto his own congress anyway. Not that he wouldn't have, like he said. I don't think he could change his mind about anything even if 290,000,000 Americans each sent him a handwritten letter personally asking him to stop something he's doing.
I must admit, I guess I just assumed Dubai felt it had nothing to lose by seeing the process through openly to a full outcome. So I was partly mistaken. I feel surprised.

Re: Ok Port Selling Pros n Cons???
Thu, March 2, 2006 - 11:47 AMMy questions are based on how things were done before. Congress and everyone else claims it was done in secret....even Bush claims he knew nothing about this whole thing, but yet he doesn't have a problem with it.
www.cnn.com/2006/POLITIC...ty/index.html
"Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, has called for hearings and, 'in the meantime, Congress must put an immediate halt to this deal that the administration hastily approved in secret without input from the Congress or state officials.'"
Sooooo, how was it sold to the Brits? Was Congress or anyone involved in that process whenever it happened before? If so, then yeah, it's a problem!! Especially on the heels of Bush being caught in his little spying game...and everything else he's been doing. Like trying to get legislation put on the tail coats of really important laws to allow drilling for oil in Alaska. That's some sneaky, outright WRONG shit going on. I know it's common but for something that would cause the kind of uproar that doing THAT would....you don't pull that sneaky backhanded crap on.
I've been looking for information on how the Brits got it and how it was handled to begin with, with no luck. Anyone?? -
