The daily running of a business

topic posted Sat, August 26, 2006 - 6:00 PM by  ENIAD
I am starting a small business that will requires a lot of paper work.
How do I keep track of everything and keep it organised.
It is starting to be productive and I would like to have everything rolling smoothly.
I have an agenda that is very functional and do not forget appointments.
Soon, it won't be enough.
Any system or good book that could be used to that effect.

Also, I have to get the right computer equipment as a laptop to work away from home for producing translations while I am away from home teaching. I presently have a table top computer running on Windows XP.
I work in the linguistic field, in Canada.

First I would make sure that my workspace is set up to flow smoothly. In otherwords is everything placed in such a way to help you work effectively. Example - if you will be on the phone a lot but the phone is on the other side of the room - you might want to consider moving it closer. I would also think about tools like a headset if you are going to be on the phone alot. Also - I am right handed so things like my adding machine and phone usually sit to the right of me.

As for the filing - the rule should always be to "file it - dont pile it." It is better to put things away as you are finished with them than to wait and file everything at once. It helps keep your work space clean and ready for use. Clutter can cause you too loose important information.

I would recommend reading "organized for success" by Stephanie Winston.

I would also recommend that you consider going to www.organize.com/ and see if this website gives you any ideas. Drop me a line if you have any questions.

One other bit of advice... I've been testing something called "Open Office" This is an office suite that is FREE. You really ought to check it out... the word processor allows you to open word files, word perfect files and so much more. It comes with a word processor, spreadsheet, powerpoint type presentation software, database and drawing software.

go to www.openoffice.org for more information.

    Good Luck

Power Point is great because it can be used as a teaching aid for introducing new class material.
TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) and teaching in general have come along way in this age of computers.
      Thanks again.
