we are thinking about launching a new internet service and we would love your input for a name.
Feel free to express your creativity in any way.
Thx in advance.

n.b.: I never thought it would be so hard to find a simple name.

it depends on the market you're targeting and what the service does. are you targeting b2b or b2c?

i've seen names like mobiqa - which really means nothing to mamma.com...

best way i've experienced to come up with ideas is throuhg brainstorming. for the first 5 minutes just write any word that comes up in your head, no filters, regardless of what it is just put it down. phrases too...

then in the next 5 minutes pick the ones that stand out...and in the lst five minutes - write down why the phrases, words stand out in your mind.

        good luck...

Yeah - give us a good amount of info to go by.

I used to work with a marketing company that did branding and naming, and we'd spend hours just putting up ideas based upon the very specific operation that we were naming.

        So, get specific.

        Want a regional issue?

Want a real name or a compound noun?

What idea or image are you trying to portray?

        What's your favorite color?

        What's your favorite tree?

Why am I not a pisces?

With a group of friends, we set up to challenge and shake up the new corporations that monopolies the net : Yahoo!, eBay, Amazon and the like.

I was thinking you might want something simple that would sound cool to kids and attract the intelligent crowd.

You say you want to challenge and shake up, ...so I came up with..
              Celox!!!
              www.celox.com or net or org.

Anyway it sounds pretty cool and it's Latin!!
It means -fast, rapid and swift.
All the things you would want in a internet svc.
Plus it's straight simple and to the point.

                ahaha

Celox is great... I liked the fast, rapid and swift part... and I am not the only one... Celox laboratories do too...

They got the domain name celox.com.

U'R good. I am certainly going to enjoy having you as a friend.

                  Not a problem.
                  I create everyday.
                  Plus speaking about domain names...
All you have to do is Hollywood it..
Ever seen this on a billboard.. Starring Red Foxx/ Jamie Foxx
                  New domain name-- Celoxx??
And if they are celox .com you still have net, org, edu and so on.

All you need is a good grassroots campaign, your svc to do what you say it does and maybe offer it to a couple of non-profits.

The key give it to them for half the price, they provide you with a copy of their 501(c)3 for your tax purposes. Were talking substantial exemptions here and your service is being used by the general public who are mostly students and the internet coffee crowd.*(Local libraries, bookstores and Java Houses)*
Then it takes a life of it's own.

    Hi Ryan,

It took me about 5 months to get a name for my website... which as you know involves a lot more than just coming up with a good name. It has to be short, a dot com, and you also need to do a trademark search (you can do a quickie on the trademark office website) the other thing is every time you think of a name, no matter how ridiculous REGISTER IT. I registered over 50 before deciding on one. The winner, btw, was not the one I thought would be the best. I gave my friends my list and almost all picked that one as the winner. So just register anything that comes to mind!

domain names are getting harder to find these days. Use godaddy.com. they rock! btw I found name generators to be worthless.

    Good luck!

did you get the .com version or you didnt think it would matter...

It took me easily six months to decide on a name for a bar that I'm opening.

And, the .com is always the best. I'd not even mess with anything unless I could get the .com. That said - you can get a .com that is close, using an 'e' at the front, or "online" as a suffix.

What are you working on these days? Can you tell us?

the same basic logic is always the same.
          .com are good.
          short is good.
          meaningful name is good.
Now, put the three together and coming up with something is not easy...

I see you've got the name nailed down - and a very good (short and sweet) domain name!

Will you be needing anyone to build your online site for you? If so, come talk to me.
