Ocean's Cry

Sitting on the sand
Alone with my thoughts
Staring across the water
Lost in the rhythm
Of cascading waves
Gently beating against the shore

Ideas tumble in my mind
Like sand beneath the waves
Shifting and swirling
A mass of unfettered chaos
And yet the beat goes on
The ocean's heart calls

Wading through the break
I reach for the depths
Like a child seeking comfort
I answer the cries
Of my ocean mother
And ask for her embrace

Waves thrust me away
As if to deny me passage
I push and strain against them
For I will not be held back
Home is where the heart is
And my heart is where I live

Embrace me mother
Your child has returned
Never again shall I leave
For the world is nothing to me
And I nothing to the world
But home is everything

I feel the ocean surge
She takes me in her embrace
Carried upon her shoulder
She returns me to the world
Denying my bid for home
Returning me to my senses

Looking across the water
A single tear falls
A silent goodbye shared
I turn my back to home
Knowing my return will come
But not quite yet
