Visualization is always an excellent place to start. I don't do healing "spells" as such but do use reiki quite a bit. Of course as always along with the spell you need to do the usual "drink plenty of fluids, rest enough, eat well, take all meds yadda yadda yadda...." One thing that I have done is utilize the shower to help "wash away" illness - visualize whatever it is just being sluiced from your body to run down the drain (and if you have body aches of any kind a warm shower helps you relax). Meditation can also go a long way to help you heal - it kinda goes with visualization but depending on what the illness is a good meditation session can restore your energy and help you rest even more. One last thing I've been in the practice of doing when feeling out of balance or ill is to pay attention to the chakra associated with that area of the body. Often I've found that for me when I'm ill with a head cold for example my "third eye" is sluggish and "clogged" as it were. I visualize an empty sphere hovering over the clogged chakra and watch it vacuum away the ickiness. You know you're done when the chakra involved is once again spinning freely and is a bright, strong color without any dark splotches.

Of course that's the stuff that works for me. Give it a try if you feel like it might help. Not everything works for everybody so much of this has been trial and error on my part over the years to see what works for me.
