Hey, just found this tribe. I am 42, and have 2 thoracic herniations that have kept me from work for 2 months now. The only thing I can think of that caused it was years of EMT/FF. It woke me from a dead sleep, and I haven't had a full nights sleep since.
I got the cortizone injections last week, but no relief. Has anyone here had this particular problem? I am told thoracic herniations are rare, and I can't find anything on the web about them, only cervical or lumbar herniations. I can't even cook for my family, or sit at a desk. This is driving me crazy. Any input would be appreciated.

Not so much going on in the tribe lately, but I thought I'd share a recent experience of mine. As a brief overview I've had chronic pain for about 17 years from compression fractures to three vertebrae in my neck. I've had a variety of treatments; some more helpful than others.

I found a great yoga class at the Yoga loft in San Francisco. It's not like any other yoga class I've seen. Using the Iyengar method Anne, the teacher, works with each student to adapt each pose to his or her level and injury. She's also very careful to make sure that every move you make maintains proper alignment and will not cause additional injury.

I can honestly say that just a few sessions with her did me more good than months of physical therapy. I hate to sound like a commercial, but I want to pass it on since I would have liked to have found this sooner than I did.

Besides all the common alleviations such as heat/cold packs, massage, stretching 24-7, etc... the best thing I've done for my back is buy a can of tennis balls from the 99-cent store. Yup. tennis balls! You can position yourself with the balls right on your back (I can never explain this w/o it sounding dirty! ha!) and maneuver however your body's feel-good sensors tell you to...rolling the evil knots away. Damn bestest (and cheapest) massage you'll ever give yourself - you know exactly where you want it and how much pressure you need. heads up: It gets intense. Try it for yourself and you'll be a believer in balls! ;P
