On Saturday November 8, in Bakersfield from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Center Stage Dance Studio on Chester Ave in downtown Bakersfield I will teach a Bene Gesserit/Rythmic belly dance work shop. It will cost 15$ to pre register and 20$ at the door. I am also working on putting together a Belly Magic work shop which is a fusion of belly dance and magic technique, but that will be in the future. Class Descriptions

BELLYDANCE 101: Let Rebekah share the joy of dance with you! This free workshop is geared towards those individuals who come to our event and have little or no dance experience but find themselves drawn to the movement and music. Workshop will breakdown several movements.

BEGINNING ARABIC DRUMMING: An overview of beginnig rhythms commonly used in live dance performances - such as beledy, ayoub, 9/8, etc. Bring your own drum. Later in the day, you're welcome to join in the drum circle which is open to all levels of drummers!

FELLAHIN FOLK DANCE: Fun and primitive, the Fellahin is an Egyptian folk dance performed by peasants at any and all festive occasions such as weddings, and is a common way of relieving stress from their hard-working lives. The dance depicts the everyday work of the farmers, such as gathering food in a basket and collecting water in jugs. Students should bring schikhatt scarves or large hankerchiefs. Participants will learn a short choreography and music will be available for purchase.

TRIBAL FUSION CHOREOGRAPHY: Lydia will teach a high energy Tribal Fusion choreography to "Blue Turban" by Arabic Breakbeats. This dance was featured in Tanjora's recent stage show "Arabian Nights 2001", and will give you several fun combinations to use! (** New Workshop **)

MOROCCAN DANCE: A woman's showoff dance done with schikhatt scarves. The color of the scarf indicates marriage status. Black - married, colors - single. Moroccan dances emphasize the use of repitition and the constant crescendo of both music and movements to create a hypnotic effect on both the dancer and the spectator. Students should bring scarves or hankerchiefs. Participants will learn two choreographies. Music will be available for purchase.

I live in San Diego now (have for almost 2 years) and dont have anything any more to do with the festival.

I know that you don't do the entry thing anymore...Just have a question about time span.

We put in a verbal application...Followed it by an email. Then, heard nothing. I found a form and submitted a written application...Then, heard nothing. Followed it with an email...Asking when would we be "notified" that we were gonna' be in the Caba Ribal...Here, in Bakersfield...Still nothing...Hmmm...Not knocking ANYone! Just really would like to know how much, in advance, is the typical notification!?!?!? Do you know???
