Just a quick note to say what a great job everyone did! It was a real treat to watch from a different aspect. Altho, I must admit it was rather bittersweet. I so wanted to dance with y'all! I miss you all. Hopefully, my life & finances will regain some balance soon & I won't have to be gone too long.
I got a couple of cool pics on Angela's camera, so hopefully she can get them posted soon.

Is anyone interested in participating in a yard sale? I am aiming for May 31 - Saturday from 8 - 3 and advertising it in the Statesmen and Boise Weekly.
10 x 10 spaces will be marked out, and you can reserve your space for $10.00. You can bring whatever you want - belly dance items, clothes, household goods - all the various and assorted good stuff that goes in yard sales. I will take care of the advertising, posting of the signs and provide the bathroom!! You could set up Friday night and cover with a tarp - the yard is locked so we can leave the stuff out overnight if needed, or you can set up Saturday morning.
Spread the word and let me know if you, or anyone else, is interested - that way I can get my act together and get it planned out.

The Yard Dogs are going an a short tour in May. To mostly small towns with great small town names like Crystal Bay, Boise, Pocatello, Missoula and Jackson Hole.

We’re going to call this the Windhorse tour. Because, among other reasons, there are probably wind and horses where we are going.

And here’s the kicker. The Indigo Belly Dance - Rachel Brice, Mardi Love and Zoe Jakes - will be on tour with us. How’s that for a pack of hooligans! Saddle up and buckle down. Put on your fancy pants and wiggle around. Call someone. Dig a hole. DO SOMETHING! This is nearly scandalous for goodness sake…

"Strictly Cymbals" classes starting!

I will be starting a “Strictly Cymbals” class April 20th. This class will be the ONLY current opportunity for Cairo Fusion students to learn finger cymbals. We will learn not only Arabic rhythms, but also funk, pop, etc. It is a one hour class from 5:30-6:30 pm Sunday evenings. For Cairo Fusion students, the tuition is $30/month. It is $45/month for any students not enrolled in other Cairo Fusion classes. For the month of April, tuition will be 1/2 price due to the shortened amount of classes.

This class is open to everyone!! It will be held at Sidonia's studio. Come play with me!!

Tribes of March was SOOO *%#@ing Fun

The show and workshops and afterparty were soooo fun! YAYAYAY for real!
And not to mention the amaaazing after party takin place at our place ; ) We've got lots and lotsa pictures!! : D
I wanna do it again!! but, wait give me like two more days to sleep... A couple of of us did all the workshops, and, yeah, my hips feel like they're gonna fall off - and Aiyah's calves! But it was so so worth it! - and I learned alot!

The show was amazing, so many awesome dances and dancers! Everyone blew me away! And the costumes!! *drool* Aiyah and Samira did amazing by the way, really truely!! and all the rest of us too! yes! Even despite them never knowing what to do with our music ; )

Here's some phrases heard many times at the show and the event that I thought I would share with you:

So, I would like to start a "Strictly Cymbals" class. Meaning, we learn finger cymbals ONLY. Yes, we will move our bodies some, but finger cymbals taught as a musical instrument, understanding not just Arabic rhythms, but also funk, pop etc.

The class would be on either Saturday or Sunday, whichever works the best. A one hour class and open to everybody, but special price for current Cairo Fusion students.

This will be the only opportunity for Cairo Fusion students to learn finger cymbals, until the magical day that I own my very own studio. We just don't have the time to venture with all the choreography & performance stuff.

I just had to post this video with a little bit of bitch fest! Those of us who have loved UNMATA dearly as soon as we set eyes upon them , have also been around to hear some of the comments as: "That's not bellydance", "How do they call that aTribal?", blah blah blah blah blah......

So, I had to post this video from their tribe to point out two things: 1-Some of the best tribal I have seen! and 2- that you CANNOT be a fabulous fusion dancer if you don't have serious roots in bellydance!

Carpet...

Anyone need any?

I'm getting new carpet in my downstairs today, and I'm having them save the large peice in my dining room - it's about 11 x 13 feet, kind of a beige color, and has one floor heat vent hole cut in it near the 12.5 foot mark. It is unstained, and has very little wear (apparently we're not the only ones that eat in front of the TV! :)

I'm putting this on Craigslist on wednesday, but I thought I'd offer it to my dance community friends first. Oh, and it's free.

Yes!! A troupe meeting tonight revealed that we've all been thinking the same thing...just because we had a Spring show last year does not mean we have to keep the same time slot this year. The timing is just bad, there is already tons of great stuff going on right then and we'd rather relax and enjoy it!

So keep an eye out for a belated Return in the fall - timing to be announced depending on headliner availability (and so as not to conflict with Sid's fall Hafla!)

DVD's

Ok, so little by little they are finally coming together. I am hoping to have them all done just after New Year's.Opperative word there being "Hope". Anyway, due to the delay, I am going to allow anyone who may have missed the initial pre-order to order now. Anyone who wishes to order some or more can do so if the orders are received no later than January 30th. February 1st, I will be wiping the pc clean and the DVD's will no longer be made.

DVD's are $30 each. Or, $25 each if you order 2 or more. Please submit your money and order to Samira. She may or may not have some order forms left. If you have any questions, please contact me and I would be happy to answer them.

No, this post just has a fair amount of cheese though.

I just wanted to say to all of my co-belly dancers who danced last Saturday at Mardi Gras that I had a wonderful time dancing with all you. I don't think I screwed up so much in a performance, from smacking girls with my long monkey arms (yeeeah, that's right Unmata, you made a huge mistake in not casting me as one of the monkey's....I can't tumble, but boy I wouldn’t have needed costuming), to being directionally challenged, to getting stuck in my belt with my bracelet, to getting wet napkin stuck to that very same devil bracelet, which I didn't notice until my arms were up Egyptian basic, which then ended up falling on my damn head. However, I don't know what it was about the whole thing, but I was calm and relaxed and just had a really great experience. Maybe it was the environment in which we were performing, maybe you all smoked a doobie in the parking lot before the performance, maybe Samira's crazy faces lessened the nerves, maybe my septum brings good luck to all, I guess we will never know. I just want to say that I had a blast and that I couldn't be apart of a more amazing sisterhood among belly dancers than you guys (unless it was UNMATA, then I would totally leave you bitches in a second ; D ). I'm proud to be a member of the dork squad.

Props for Mazana pulling things together beautifully, as usual, after a belly MIA.

Props to all of us ladies for kicking ass in queing.

See your asses in class Friday.

So, I am super sorry to announce that the most fabulous Ms. Zoe Jakes will not be able to attend Fusion Fest this year. She has been stolen from us by the BDSS! : ) No really, she was unfortunately needed to be on tour the same dates as our event.

I guess that's what happens when you are super freaky about pre-planning and organization. : )

So...no worries, we still have the amazing Ms. Dangerpantz and in true form, I will be surprising you with another super-fab instructor/performer for the Fest in the next week or so.

Much love to Zoe for trying her hardest to play with us. We WILL bring her in another time, I promise!!!

Mazana and Chilli?

Well, not quite! The Borah Neighborhood Association was out of chilli by the time Mazana took to the (wet, soggy) grass. However, no one in the audience seemed to care that bellies were empty because Mazana was poppin' and shimmying all over the place. Zelah, Jeanne and Sara were amazing--just as the name proclaims. I loved watching all the dances, especially KBC--that dance is so mesmerizing. The shoulder shimmies at the end never fail to make me want to shake my shoulders along with the performers.

I looked around at the audience to check out how they appreciated the performance, and I can tell you that nearly everyone there had stopped what they were doing to watch our dancers! Yeah, Mazana!

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaz, right, ladies and gents. That's how far it is from little ol' Boise Ideeeho to the show-rockin' Hot Pot Studios.

Blood Moon, here I come.

I'm going to be driving down either the early Friday morning of the 26th of October, or the Thursday before, around 4:30pm. If anyone wants to carpool with me, that would be fantastic. I believe it's much cheaper than flying, plus road trips always rock. I will be taking my car unless someone has a van that they would want to use. My car can hold 5 people (including driver), or 4 comfortably. I also have a pretty big trunk. I can drive a little over 200 miles before filling the tank up again, so we can rotate the gas expense (we'd really only have to fill it up about 2 times each, at $40 a tank).

Let me know what everyone thinks.

Hi! Hyde Park was a blast this year. You all ROCKED it. After the show, I realized I'd found some things and lost something.

My Gypsy Echoes black butterfly skirt is missing. I hope someone gathered it up for me. It may have been stuffed in someone else's back, too, without their knowledge--there were a few cases of "Whose is this?. I think it's..." Could everyone check? It's of a larger size, so it should be easy to identify!

Original Gypsy Echoes Veil--I found this after the Nejwah show. The veil had been tied to the canopy of the open part of the dressing tent. Please send me a PM to identify.

Hey everyone how was it?
I bet it was freakin awesome.
so, i really need to go buy a REAL alarm clock!! I was so mad when I woke up close to 10 and by the time i got ready had to go buy m friend a present for her baby shower at 11 am. See, I set my phone alarm for 8am but didnt realize that i still had it on silent from work! er!
so, i missed, and want to know, how was it :)
more of us should get together and drum sometime and maybe ill catch up :)
