SUGGESTED MANTRA: Mother
Ge is the first and ultimate deity, Mother Earth, revered by men and
gods. She is the goddess of people, animals, ecosystems and the
universe, who connects us to the universal source of "mothering" and
"nurturing".

In her pre-Hellenic myths, Greek goddess Ge brought forth all life
from the darkness and chaos, breathing life and form into all matter.
Later, under patriarchal influence, she was simply relegated to the
role of mother of the first race of Olympian gods (the Titans),
although her status as supreme deity was not lessened.
According to Greek mythology, she gave birth to Uranus, the Sky, whom
she made her equal. Later Uranus became her husband, and she gave
birth to the Titans, (the 15th satellite of planet Saturn is named
after them), and the Cyclopes. In an bid to overthrow his father's
rule, Cronus (Roman Saturn) severed Uranus' genitals and threw them
into the ocean, the alchemy resulting in the birth of Aphrodite.
Commonly represented in the form of a giant woman, Ge was also the
original prophetess at the main centre of divination in ancient Greece
- the Delphic oracle. The oracle was located at the place where the
wisdom of the earth and humanity meet (later, the oracle was taken
over by Apollo), and revealed information about the sustenance of
human life.
HER MODERN ENERGY
As the first mother, great Earth Mother, revered by man and gods, Ge
represents the nurturing mother-love known to all her creatures. Her
energy vibrates within us when we extend those same attributes back to
the earth and her creatures. When we abuse the earth, we suffer the
consequences, and we encounter more hardship in our lives.
DO THIS
In the Southern Hemisphere: Share a feast of Spring vegetables with
your family. Find a provedore who has pride in the quality of their
vegetables, or pick them yourself with consciousness and gratitude to Ge.
In the Northern Hemisphere: Make Ge's soup one afternoon - it should
serve around 8 to 10 people, so take the opportunity to surround
yourself with loved ones to share it! When preparing the soup, you may
prepare each vegetable as you go.... as one vegetable goes into the
pot, start work on preparing the next one, and so forth.
2 cups lentils and other legumes of choice, pre-soaked if necessary
3 tablespoons virgin olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 slices bacon, chopped
1/4 cup chopped carrots
1 litre beef stock
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup chopped parsley
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
3 tablespoons parsley
3 to 4 cloves garlic
dash of thyme
1 tin Roma tomatoes, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons wine vinegar
Heat the olive oil in a large pot and stir the onions until golden and
transparent. Add the rinsed lentils and legumes, the beef stock, 5
cups fresh spring water, and the remaining vegetables (except tomatoes
and vinegar). Let the soup simmer slowly for 90 minutes while you look
through your photo albums and remember the purity of your mother's
love for you in your childhood, or of your love for your children.
Take all the time you need - if you lose yourself in the delicious
memories for longer than 90 minutes, then the soup will only taste the
better for it.
Before serving, add the tomatoes and vinegar, and cover for another 30
minutes. This should give you time to pick up the phone and let your
mother know how much you love her, or to glow with your own
mother-love for your children. Take the time to let your loved ones
know how you feel.
Finally, season to taste and serve with crusty bread.... Eat with
consciousness, it will bring about a profound sense of peace if we can
nurture a close and respectful relationship with our Mother Earth.
