I, along with others, am concerned about the state of Tribe. I like Tribe. I do NOT like myspace or facebook. I also do not like being out of touch with my friends. Therefore, I have decided to do something about it. I have started a yahoo group. Yahoo doesn't offer all the features and network of Tribe, but at least we will be able to get out messages during outages.

Please go to the link below and subscribe to the group. I will okay you. I promise. I am making it by invitation so Jonathan and Hassan don't have to go visiting any wandering, ahem, amateur photographers. Also visit the album and leave a photo dropping!

Dance in the Park Sept. 6th

HI Everybody, I just wanted to let you know that The Travelers of the Silk Road will be dancing this Saturday day Sept. 6 at the free Dance in the Park show that is sponsored by the neighborhoods around 39th street. We aren't the only ones dancing, we'll just be the only Belly Dancers. I think there will be about 7 or 8 other performances with Vesuvius closing the show. It all start around 6:30 at the park by Roanoke Community Center (you can google the name since I don't have the exact address) and goes to about 9 or 9:30 This is free for the public and afterward Vesuvius will be leading us up to Once and a Blue Moon on 39th and we'll be hosting an after party with life music till about 11. Hope to see a lot of friendly faces there.

Silk Road Symposium: Dance/Drumming Classes Needed, Expo Dancers Needed

Greetings One and All!

Things are starting to come together for the Silk Road Symposium, to be held October 25th in the Shire of Crystal Mines.

However, I've only got one dance class on the schedule (Ysoria's Indian Mudras class). I would really like to have a full day's worth of classes lined up. So if you can teach dancing or drumming, or both...let me know!

Also, I would like to have a dance expo (about 30 minutes worth...give or take) for over the noon hour while everyone takes some time for lunch. If someone would like to coordinate this piece, I would be eternally grateful.

The Passing of Mikal The Ram

Draw the children close and speak to them softly. Hold them tight, dry their tears as well as your own.

This day there is one less empty bench in Bragi's Hall. Master Mikal Hrafspa, (Mikal the Ram) who referred to himself as an annoying Bard with no redeeming qualities, has taken to the Swan Road one last time.

At 2:15 18 August 2008 he was welcomed into the famed hall of the Skalds and offered his rightful seat near the fire to rest his body for ever more. There his horn will never be empty of mead. His feet never weary from fire walking. Where he can tell tales and sing songs to his hearts content.

His only regret may be that he will never again be able to tell a King that he must turn down a royal invitation and go off to tell tales to the most important people of Calontir, the children. And that the cries and clamor to hear Uncle Master Mikal will be heard no more.

Though the wails of mourning can be heard in his house, His pyre is being prepared. The Oracles are being consulted for the proper time and place. When this is divined, word will be sent forth for those wishing to
Honor him.

Roust the Heralds and send them forth to spread this sad news through out the Kingdom and Known World.

I just went though and deleted a lot of the "Renny " type pictures since I didn't feel like that really represented the Kingdom of Calontir. I'm asking all you members out there to go through your pics and see if you can't find some pictures of our great Kingdom that we can display for the rest of the Knowne Worlde to see. I admit I kept the Ent lady cause I thought it was a cool costume but I got rid of the the braiden maiden and a few others that just didn't represent what Calontir is all about.

Lilies Announcement!

As is tradition in the heartlands, Their Royal Majesties Calontir have decreed that a grand tournament and melee be organized for all of their nobles, knights, and commons; as well as their Royal Cousins and their subjects from across the Known World. This tournament is to be held on the ground of their forefathers, the Field of Lilies, and is to consist of all manner of pageantry, display and entertainment for all who might attend.

It is no secret that the artisans of this kingdom are some of the most diverse in the world; and to that end, their Majesties have asked that all who might participate in this fair organize themselves into guilds and form alliances in order to field teams for this display. These guilds and alliances need not be officially chartered within this fair kingdom, yet all must be able to present a sufficient force upon the field that might last for a week, and include not only artisans, but knights, huscarls, fyrdmen, archers and men-at-arms. Forces should be able to challenge each other in the customary pastimes of tournament, melee, archery, games, art and craft displays, shopping and partying, to name but a few. We would encourage all who dedicate themselves to a craft to consider sponsoring a force for this war; be you metalworker, fiber artist, cook, potter, baker, or any of the other myriad of artisans and craftsmen that this Kingdom is blessed with.

Petitions for such forces must be presented to their Majesties, no later than the Kris Kinder Market, traditionally held in the Crown’s lands of the Barony of Forgotten Sea. Any exceptions after this date will be granted solely at the discretion of Their Majesties.

The Event Stewards for this next Lilies are Baroness Diana MacLean (baronessd@hotmail.com ) and Baron Mikhail Nikolaevich (mstraatm@gmail.com). If you are interested in sponsoring a side for this next Lilies, please contact us at your earliest convenience. Even if you don’t think you have enough for a “whole” side, let us know, perhaps we could arrange an alliance with another guild or group. Again, your side does not have to be an “official” Calontir guild, just a group of artisans willing to contribute to the overall fun of the war.

Loan a tent for Wolgemut?

Wolgemut is camping with Calontir at Pennsic this year, as they have for several years past. Does anyone have a spare period pavillion to loan for them? We have procured two smaller pavillions so far, but there are more Wolgemutians this year so we could use another tent.
(They have mundane tents, but of course, real tents make the kingdom look so much better, are so much more comfortable...)
How about it? Anyone wanna donate a tent for "the cause" for a week?

New tribe for ME folks

Calontiri ME Community

I realized we didn't have a gathering point for all folks doing Middle Eastern activities--dancers, musicians, storytellers, clothiers, etc.--to get together to discuss matters that might be of interest to all. The new tribe is an effort to provide just that.

So, whether you've got a ME persona or just enjoy some ME activities, the tribe may just prove useful. It's open to those interested, even if they only visit Calontir on occasion.

take 6th street WEST....turns into highway 40
take county road 442 (STULL road..highway makes a sweeping right at this point)....TURN LEFT
stay on this road for awhile...turns into 45th street but you cant really tell..
take STUBBS road (look for CAMP HAMMOND YMCA boyscout camp signs and SCA signs)..TURN LEFT
go about 2 miles...camp will be on the LEFT......look for signs!!

Body Shop Pre-Festival Party

This month, I will again be hosting a combination party. I will have the foot fun , your face is forever, and make it up, plus as a special treat henna. For those that will be going to the Ethnic Festival August 18th - 20th this will be a good time to get our feet softened and our faces glowing. This will be a great opportunity for you to try our fabulous line of footcare, hand care, skin care and face care without pushy salespeople or waiting at the cosemetic counter to get questions answered. Best thing of all is that there is no obligation to buy anything, and also you can sit back and chat with old friends and even make new ones that have the same interests as you.

And for those interested in purchasing either premixed henna or henna powder, I should have some on hand.

Date will be August 12th at or around 2:00 pm, if you can't make it by 2:00 no problem the parties always last more than 3 hours.

Location depends on how many RSVP, but definitely in Overland Park, KS.

Body Shop Party and Judy's Workshop

Starting this month I will be holding a The Body Shop at Home party. Each month will be a different theme and will rotate every quarter, so if you can’t make it, but you really want to try the featured products for that party, you can either host your own party with that particular theme, talk a friend into hosting one, or if you don’t have the room, I would be happy to open my home to your party, or wait 3 months or so and I will have another for that them.

This month, I will be hosting a combination party. I will have the foot fun , your face is forever, and make it up, plus as a special treat henna. For those that will be going to Judy's workshop this will be a good time to get our feet softened and our faces glowing. Also, for those interested in ordering henna powder, I can get that as well, along with practice poi at a discount. Also, I will have small bottles of premixed henna paste available for sale.

Goldihat and the Three Peers

Once upon a time there were three Peers: a Birdy Peer, a Shrubby
Peer, and a Chivy Peer.

One morning Shrubby Peer and Chivy Peer awoke to find that Birdy Peer
had stayed up all night preparing an elaborate breakfast of porridge.
They all sat down to eat.

"This porridge, which I stayed up all night preparing, is too hot,"
said the Birdy Peer.

"Porridge would not have been served at this temperature in period,"
said the Shrubby Peer.

"Ow," said the Chivy Peer.

"Well, no sense in wasting time while we wait for it to cool- let's
go out and tidy the forest," said the Birdy Peer.

"I do need to look for some rare herbs," said the Shrubby Peer.

"Pretty trees!" said the Chivy Peer.

So off they went.

Soon, a girl happened by, followed by her retinue. She was called
Goldihat, because of her beautiful gold plated headgear. She walked
in to the Peers' kitchen.

"Food tester, test this porridge," said Goldihat.

"This porridge is too hot, your worthiness."

"Food tester, test that porridge," said Goldihat.

"This porridge is too cold, your worthiness."

"Food tester, test this porridge," said Goldihat.

"This porridge is just right, your worthiness."

So Goldihat sat down and ate the whole bowl. Then she and her retinue
processed to the living room.

"Chair tester, test this spot on the floor where a chair would be if
Birdy Peer ever sat down," said Goldihat.

"This spot on the floor where a chair would be if Birdy Peer ever sat
down is too hard, your worthiness."

"Chair tester, test this elaborately hand carved chair piled high
with intricately embroidered pillows," said Goldihat.

"This elaborately hand carved chair piled high with intricately
embroidered pillows is too soft, your worthiness."

"Chair tester, test this La-Z-Boy," said Goldihat.

"This La-Z-Boy is just right, your worthiness."

So Goldihat sat down and reclined, and sat up and reclined, and
raised the footrest and lowered the footrest until *SPROING*. Then
she and her retinue processed to the bedroom.

"Bed tester, test this spot on the floor where a bed would be if
Birdy Peer ever slept," said Goldihat.

"This spot on the floor where a bed would be if Birdy Peer ever slept
is too hard, your worthiness."

"Bed tester, test this pile of leafy branches," said Goldihat.

"This pile of leafy branches is too soft, your worthiness."

"Bed tester, test this racing car bed," said Goldihat.

"This racing car bed is just right, your worthiness."

So Goldihat lay down on the bed, tucked her headgear under the
pillow, and fell fast asleep (because there is no other way to fall
asleep on a racing car bed).

Soon after, the Peers arrived home from their walk and went to finish
their breakfast.

"Someone has been eating my porridge, which I stayed up all night
preparing," said the Birdy Peer.

"Someone has been eating my porridge, and the used the wrong spoon!"
said the Shrubby Peer.

"Hungry!" said the Chivy Peer.

Then they went to the living room.

"Somebody has been sitting on the spot on the floor where a chair
would be if I ever sat down," said the Birdy Peer.

"Somebody has been getting their greasy fingers all over my
elaborately hand carved chair piled high with intricately embroidered
pillows," said the Shrubby Peer.

"Broken!" said the Chivy Peer.

Then the Peers proceded to the bedroom.

"Somebody has been sleeping on the spot on the floor where a bed
would be if I ever slept," said the Birdy Peer.

"Somebody has been resting on my laurels," said the Shrubby Peer.

"Woman!" said the Chivy Peer.

Just then, Goldihat awoke, sat up, and put on her headgear.

"Your worthiness!" said the Birdy Peer.

"Your worthiness!" said the Shrubby Peer.

"Shiny!" said the Chivy Peer.

So the Peers joined Goldihat's retinue, and they went around invading
houses all over the kingdom, and lived happily ever after.

The state of bardery....

Hallo,

I'm writing looking for input on general views of the state of bardery in Calontir. I figure this tribe is a good place to do so because the membership numbers promise a volume of replies that I can actually read. Heh.

Just so you know, I'm deputy to the Dean of the Bardic College. My wife and I share the role ala Master Blaster of Mad Max fame--she does lots of talking and I sit on people. Great way to run a country!

Anyway, what do you think of the state of bardic activity in Calontir currently? What would you like to see out of the bardic community?

Great Plains Renaissance Festival Pictures being posted.......

Thank you, Layla, for hosting my Renaissance Festival photos on your tribe. Being the obsessive/compulsive person I am, I am taking them each through Photoshop before posting so it will take a couple of weeks to get them all on. There are some great pictures ahead! You can also find some terrific bellydance pictures taken during the Festival on the Wichita Bellydance, Amira Productions and Sisters of Salome tribes! I know these ladies would love you to stop in and take a look at their performances! Since I am not in the SCA, I don't know how to label these pictures and look to all of you for suggestions.

Other tribes around MO

Do we know of groups of drummers and bellydancers around other parts of Missouri? Columbia? Saint Louis? Springfield and the others would be good to know, though my own personal interests are revolved around possibly having to move to St. Louis or Columbia. KC may not happen. So speak up. Who do we know where?

Crystal Ball

Crystal Ball is a fantastic event for anyone who doesn't know. This year it is a masked ball! The theme is a harvet festival. I know, I know, you are thinking I don't know how to European dance. But the good thing is there are classes all day so you can learn. The feast is always amazing, particularly the entertainment. If you are absolutely opposed to dancing there are other activities as well such as fighting, including a light tournament (which you don't get to see in Calontir and is interesting to watch). There is also tons of Bardic stuff going on all evening with the fun folks of the mid-realm.

Calling all musicians

We will be having a masked ball at Caravan's event this year. We are in need
of musicians to provide the music. We will be playing songs that are very
familiar to most people who routinely play for balls. If you are interested
in joining our humble little music pit, you would be most welcome... and did
I mention that all musicians will get to eat feast for FREE. That's right
music lovers, if you are a fan of Ivory Keep's feasts and would be willing
to spend time in the music pit, we will waive the cost of your feast...YUM!

Ya know anybody can post here. Doesn't have to be the lame brained modrator. Cause you know I'm only going to be talking about belly dance related subjects and I know you all have other interests in the SCA besides that.

SO did anybody go to Blood of heroes this last weekend? How 'bout crown tourney that's right around the corner anybody going to that? I'd like to but I'll be at a belly dance seminar in Lincoln NE.

BTW if you know anyone from Calontir that isn't on this tribe please invite them.
