That's what...3 hours from here? I'd have to look to be certain.

That drive would be feasible on a loosely regular basis, I figure. How often you wanting to put together such a thing?

Mid-Eastern drumming? African drumming? What sort of music? (Remember: showing up at a drum circle of mid-eastern drums with a djembe is akin to showing up at a pistol shooting match with a shotgun. Not designed to work together--even if the djembe is tuned correctly, which most seem not to be.)

If it's mid-eastern drumming, we could make it a hafla and invite dancers?

Hell, I'm thinking some workshopping on ensemble playing and teaching new rhythms to folks I don't normally get to play with, introducing new instruments to players....

Well, I'm in Urbana, IL, but I do my best to visit my main squeeze in Kansas City as often as possible. Which basically means that when I take I-70 across MO I'll be passing not too far from you. (too far is all relative... I used to regularly drive six or eight hours for an event when I lived in Artemisia... but that was when gas prices were a bit less expensive... ouch!)

So, if you had a circle at your place, I could have him drive down and me over and down... on my way to KC so to speak... and if you invited all my friends, the lovely bellydancers of Calontir, that would make me quite happy as well... drumming is extra fun when there is also the dancing to go with. :)

well you would be very welcome... and as soon as we work out the details... camping would be possible... but it seems to be a good plan all i all..

I ahve to say that I dont agree but thats not problem... the hafla would be even better. I have had the most fun at loose assemblages of drummers from all types... african, carib, middle eastern and even asian... we came out with some wild jams... wish I had taped them... Was looking to see what sort of interest there was in the area, to then add to the basic idea... would love to have it regular...

I should probably move this to it's own thread, so, indeed, I will.

Hi all, Nakano here (yes I live)!
I would love to spend a weekend and have some quality percussing and dancing. I have long wanted a full day (or more) devoted to percussion in Calontir. I would really like to see it in the spring before Lilies so as to give a venue for trying out classes and giving a kickstart to the year. I dont want it to be a SCA sponsered event, I would rather it be more like a ME music seminar focasing on enseamble playing and comunication between dancer and drummer, with intensives on tecnique. I now to some this may sound to stuffy and no fun. I think of it as band camp (even though ive never been to one) or, what I would want band camp to be. Depending on how many people you think your property can handle, sanitation wise, This would be really easy to make happen. I will facilitate in any way I can. What do you think?

sorry for the long delay... we have been babysitting a horse ranch in versailles that we are part owner of... and selling 66.7 arces... rough rectangle piece with creek on N and E sides road on S and W, with swimming hole at NW corner and water fall (small) at the NE corner, so we have to move back to main property before we think about a full flegged event... its 180 acres with private lake, a grass runway with hanger... though noone in the family flies? go figure... fenced and fence down the middle with gates... works well ... need some port a castles and working on a shower idea... spring before lillies sounds great... but like I said we have to move back first...and not sure when that will happen... my inlaws are presently wrecking...I mean living in the house that we shall occupy on the property...
