There has been a lot of talk about whether or not to go this year (at least among the NorCal folk), and since tickets went on sale this morning i figured i'd check in with everyone and see what part of the fence everyone is on :)
so, what are you thinking? heading to the playa this august or taking the year off? it's obviously a long way off still....
as for me, i am leaning heavily towards taking a break. however i would also like to pose that if enough people feel the same, we still get together and do something fun! there are lots of other places to listen to loud music and take drugs besides brc...

Wed, January 16, 2008 - 1:48 PMWell, it looks like it's a go for BM this year for those of us in the land of the whale's vagina. Stephen and I each bought 2 tickets, and Ryan bought 2 - which covers all us San Diegans (Stephen, me, Jon, CC, Ryan) plus our friend Tim (who hasn't been before). We've also heard that some other UCSD grad students we know will be going for their first time, and they're pretty dang cool...
Speaking for myself, I wanted to go again since last year was only my first, and also because I'm not sure what 2009 will bring. I'll be finishing grad school sometime this year and imagine I'll be pretty immersed in a new post-doc somewhere in the land of the Bay Area (big YAY!) by then, so who knows if I'll have the time or money to go next year.
I can definitely understand for those who have been multiple years in a row, it might be high time to take a break. My vote is that you all still COME (!!!), because I had a blast last year, and was really glad to meet and spend time with all you SF folks...surely Camp Mad Flava won't be the same without you!

I had my break year, and I needed it. I think I've got at least another year in me before I need a year off. If this is your year, don't worry! I'll pick you up a hunk of dust. You know, for hair-additives/cocktails/house cleansing, etc.

There are some other things in my life going on, including a potential trip to Europe in July that are taking focus away from Burning Man for me. I hope that the rest of you still have an excellent time and who knows, I might end up making a last minute effort to get my ass to the playa!

I am doing the pancake again thing this year, but Mad Flava is still where my heart lies so we'll see how set up goes as it gets closer to time. Mon, May 5, 2008 - 4:40 PMWell, have no fear because Mad Flava will still be representin' in 2008, although with a drastically changed lineup...but change is part of life and usually results in a big ol' adventure. Sign me up for adventure!!
So far, it's me, Stephen, Mitch, his GF, and our friends Tim, Mya and her BF (not sure about the last two, but they are definitely going). Sully mentioned that if he can swing going to BM (if the PhD thesis doesn't interfere), he'll be with Pancake. So we're at 5 for sure, potentially 7, or even 8 if I can finagle getting my friend Autumn to come...overall, PLENTY of people to constitute a kick ass theme camp. We'll definitely be doing the BRC 5K again, not so sure about the mondo croquet, but we were thinking of organizing "hash runs", which perfectly complements serving peeps pancakes afterwards...
Stephen and I have discussed the pros and cons of trying to do the theme camp versus just campin' and chillaxin', but I think if we did the same "home away from home" satellite camp for Pancake this year, it'd be a ton of fun. I know Stephen is trying to contact Cara to see if we could work that sort of situation out again. We'll definitely be brining up the large dome to provide chill space for both camps...and I certainly want to volunteer many-a-shift for flipping pancakes...

Sat, May 17, 2008 - 11:38 AMCrazy times for BRC indeed. I've heard from many, many folks that this will be the first year they've skipped out in 3, 4, 5, and even 10 years! There's something in the air....
And now I've just heard official word that the Space Cowboys aren't going to be an official theme camp this year, so won't be on the esplande and that we'll be lucky to even get the Mog up there this time around. So weird. I have a feeling enough cowboys will go to make some little camp, but nothing large scale.
Don't let Mad Flava fizzle out!!
