Tue, September 4, 2007 - 5:50 PMUnless that is, we can make a new theme camp and call it "Manifest Destiny Camp." THAT is the American Dream. We could camp somewhere in the east of BRC and then slowly march westward, taking over each camp we come upon, claiming it for us until we reach the western trash fence. -

Re: 2008 theme: The American Dream
Wed, September 5, 2007 - 9:23 AMafter thinking on it a bit, i am guessing the point was to try to curb the blind haters and remind people that (current) government and country are not necessarily the same thing. "america sucks" isn't a valid statement, really. there's lots of great shit here. we have beautiful natural features, created jazz, blues, rock n roll, and (depending on who you ask) punk, and the pioneering spirit isn't necessarily bad, it just has been at times in the past :)
be that as it may, however, i'm still not really feeling it. it might be the year to take off. it would be fun if we could still all do *something* though for a week together, even if it's not burning man. i hear renting an island is surprisingly affordable...

Re: 2008 theme: The American Dream
Wed, September 5, 2007 - 10:40 AMoh wow, i thought this was a hoax when someone posted about it yesterday. terrible. so terrible. you'd think the BORG would have learned to stop with the political art-themes after this year. guess we'll have to burn the man down early again.
at least they'll have flags from 200+ countries and the american one won't be any larger, but still, why the AMERICAN dream? barf.
fortunately the art themes don't really mean that much to me. i mean, do you really notice that much of a difference from year to year with different themes? The Green Man was a well intentioned and terribly executed political agenda masquerading as an art theme. Burning Man is about the least green thing you could attend. and i think a lot of the participants are already pretty aware of environmental issues. so you're preaching to the choir boys.
so basically, a year's art theme isn't a factor in my decision to go to the playa or not. even if it is a shitty shitty idea. -

Re: 2008 theme: The American Dream
Fri, September 7, 2007 - 1:03 PMit's true. despite whether i've felt positively or negatively about past themes, it usually turns out to be irrelevant anyway. the place is huge, and people are going to do what they want.

Re: 2008 theme: The American Dream
Sat, September 8, 2007 - 9:56 AMYuk! I was already thinking about taking the year off, and this theme isn't taling me out of it. I would really like to get together with the crew, regardless. Steve and I are working on a house in the Mammoth area for a SD/SF snow trip of sorts sometime this winter. I am up for anything, it's just fun to get together with you good people when ever we can. -
