So first we are doing our next party (first party of the year to brc) on Friday, Nov. 20th. It will be at an awesome spot in SF (not club6! :)) & will go till 4am. Very good spot that is much more in tune with our camp ;). More info on this soon.
Also we are setting up at Decom again, if anyone wants to hook up.

A massive THANK YOU! to all of you that helped us create Camp? this year. Everything worked out so good, it was amazing to see the vision become a reality, & to get to enjoy it with you all. It is just too much fun going nutz with friends in the desert! We just got the moving truck returned & moved some stuff out of the rain (nature is funny) & start packing for Symbiosis, at the same time, thinking about Decom. We just sent in an app & want to see who may want to get involved or help out for this years Decompression. It is always fun, so hit us up if you wanna go.
as soon as i can get my memories in order i will post a fav list from this year, and some pix. i didnt get hardly any, so please post or link to yours or any.

Alright...here we go!

Time is melting away faster & faster every day, so we are trying to catch as much of it as possible. If any of you happen to find any, please send it our way.Unless of course you need it also... then just pour it all over yourself!

We here at the Questonian Center of Camp Questionmark are busily working on 'getting the ball rolling'. But in order to do that we must first research balls, decide on one, 'acquire' it, attach wheels to it, hook up an alternative energy source, decorate it, & then roll it.
So here is the first step in the path. With this email we are hopping to collect names & email addys of prospective Questionmarkers, and have a quick avenue to feed them info about camp. If you are receiving this, it is because you have either asked or answered a question, or are in this camp. If you know of anyone else that may fit these descriptions (preferably the later), please forward or get em' on the list. We need email addys from as many peeps, that are going, as possible. Michelle is making a mail group that can message between everyone, to help organize stuff and give out information. You can go to the campquestionmark.com site to add your email & also fill out the BM form, the button on the front page.
Plus, if you have something for the "what, where, when" ...its due, hit me up, TODAY!

that was huge you guys. thank you all for everything you did, the night was flawless. both other crews commented on your help, and our decorations/lights. it was a huge success, people are writing in saying it was the best party of the year, and how it will go down in the history books! both crews want to work with us again & we made some great friends. we had the best time we have had in a while. everything was off the charts...the way it looked, the sound, the people, you really made this, thank you!

Flying in from the Middle East to be at Burning Man 2009! Car pool anyone?

Hello fellow "?" campers! :)

I was wondering if any of you would be keen on meeting up with me in Reno Sunday (or Monday I'm flexible) and letting me ride in with you to Burning Man--> camp question mark?

I am coming in Sunday around 3pm. I am flexible so if you have room I can meet you on Sunday or Monday whatever works for you. If you have any extra room for me and my bags I would be most happy to provide gas $$ and whatever else I have that you need. :) I also was hoping to do some food shopping unless I can coordinate with friends to let me just pitch in with their food stash (or even you, if you think it's a good fit for you).

Since I'm flying back to the Middle East directly from Reno after Burning Man I might have some luggage (2 suitcases), but I can probably see if storing it somewhere for the week is possible if you don't have the room.

If meeting you on Monday is a better fit, I can just book a hotel in Reno and meet you the next day. Whatever works for you.

Additionally if you are also flying in I would also be happy share a rental car. :)

I am so excited that I'm returning to camp with Michelle & Brian and the gang! :)

The human species, Homo sapiens, has existed for approximately 200,000 years. The genus known as homo has a lineage stretching back two million years. Homo erectus, the first human ancestor to walk upright, and Homo habilis, the toolmaker, are among our relatives. We are a bud belonging to a twig of this ancestral tree.

The process of trial and error that has made this possible is called Natural Selection. Genetically encoded traits that aid survival tend to spread throughout entire populations. Living entities that bear these genes endure and reproduce, but maladaptive traits are not passed on. This causes species to evolve to better fit the world in which they live. However, this rigorous weeding out of 'unfit' individuals has gradually ceased to occur within our species. Medicine and mutual aid assure that nearly anyone is able to survive and reproduce. Now adrift in our own gene pool, we have encountered a new phase of evolution. We've become a conscious breed of culture-bearing animals. Black Rock City is a kind of Petri dish, and Burning Man is an experiment in generating culture. We've learned that culture's a spontaneous phenomenon. BBQ & Hang-out Nov8th weekend b-4 "the big event" (kinda like the little tiny spankings before the SMACK!!!)

We will have a big potluck, so no one has to do too much w/food, and everyone can chow. Nov. 8th, and we will be figuring out a time, let's say daytime! till whatev...

Believe it or not we are gonna pull this party off! So we booked Club 6's Dark Room for a triple event: Brian's Birthday, a fashion show for Felice & Michelle and crew, and a fundraiser for Camp?! As this is our first event for camp it is really gonna be trial to see what we can accomplish by throwing parties for next years new and improved camp( we're talking art car and scaffolding here people!)We really need our friends to show up at these events guys!!! So the immediate details are:

couple of questions for y'all....

howdy neighbors...we are in need of some tickets and wanted to see if anyone has any extra or knows someone trying to get rid of them. need a total of five of the cheaper tier tickets.

also, we will have a water tasting bar. what is that you ask? well, basically we are calling out to burners through out the galaxy to bring samples of tap water from wherever they'd like. could be a gallon's worth or just a smaller water bottle full of tap water from your house, etc. for example, i live in philadelphia, so i'll be bringing out a sample of philly's finest drinking water for other burners to taste. fill up a water bottle, drop it off and tell us where it's from so we can label it. feel free to bring by any ocean water, lake water, river water, any kind of water. we'll have a microscope for anyone interested in seeing the differences in water from around the country and world.

Need To Get Numbers Of People To Be In CAMP? for 2008 (ASAP)

Hellow & High,
The time is upon us, planning and stuff has begun. We now need to get our numbers together for "the man". We would like to know as many as possible, if you have any maybes or I wannas, go ahead and include them. We will have 2 lists, the finalists, and the hopefuls. Also if you would like to help out more before the event, we need the help, we can get a few good people in early if they are part of the set up crew. If you need extra space for anything (art instalation, or shade structure, trailer, etc.) please let us know now or ASAP, even if its a maybe, we need all large items mapped out early. Sorry for the urgency, we just want to learn from last year and make it that much smoother.

I also want to say that we have been talking about some of the new things we will be providing at CAMP? this year, and they sound great so far.Some of the highlights are a large biodiesel genny (more power for you), large scale shade (with total shade for all tent camping), and improved lighting for all of CAMP?. If there is anything you would like to see in camp that may enhance your experience, please feel free to suggest. I will send out a post soon and list all of the improvements we are discussing.

So tell all your sexy, crazy, eclectic, weirdo friends we want them at CAMP? this year. The more the better, lets try to grow from last year in every way, BRING MORE FREAKS, we are hungry for virgins!!!

"The CAMP? Wishlist", and a few other things...

Wow, time is running away and everything is in full
swing! There is too much to tell, but some things are,
we have a new chunk of people camping with us, so we
should have a good size group this yr. Camp is being
"beefed up",or "tofued up?", in every way (shade,
power, protection, ETC.). And we have other people
working on camp installations, and ways to help get
more stuff out to the desert. (if you can take stuff
out there let us know)
A big thing we need to figure out is who wants to get
keychains (camp giveaway), and how many you want. We
are going with dogtags, and native american inspired
design. Please give me a number ASAP, so we know where
our pricing is.
We are going to try the porta pottie this year, for
those of you that want it. It comes on a small trailer
that can be pulled by any car. What we will need is
for someone to pick it up on there way in(main week).
Anyone down for that?
Next we have early arrivals, we are stoked so many
people want to go early and help with the set up! We
soooooo need you! We need to have the exact days you
want to show up, even if you are a maybe. We need to
get this info ASAP for when the BMORG demands it.
Please try to tell me by Monday the 7th.
OK, now for the big list, this is stuff that we
desperately NEED, and people may have, or be able to
acquire. If you have anything we could use, or use &
return, or know someone who can "get em cheap", let us
know. A lot of money is being used for big camp
community items, so we have to try and figure out as
much of this stuff as possible. We can give super
special PRIZES to the biggest contributors!

The application & camp layout have been submitted. Stuff is being acquired, plans being worked out, and all around figurin' out goin' on.
We are checking on some stuff peepholes were talkin' bout' last year, like gettin' a porta potty. We found a rental place and it would be about $200 a week, w/o dumps. So we wanted to see if that works , and who may want to do this. Please get back at us with any feedback, and we can figure out the rental. Don't know if they run out, but thought we should reserve it sooner if we want it.

No Temple this Year

Hi All,
I just read that David Best will not be building a Temple this year -- I can't believe it...I realize that it wasn't always there, but it has been such a huge part of my experience - and I am feeling a little blue.

Whenever someone asks me "what is burningman all about" my answer usually is to tell them an overview and then explain the Temple Burn - thousands of people from all over the world sitting in silence and watching that homage to friends, family and fears - burn and take the bad stuff all away.

The first time I went to Burningman, I remember Pat and Jack telling me how amazing it was, and I when I saw it, I couldn't believe it -- it stretched forever and it was so intricate and so much love had been put into it - I was in awe.

My first visit each year to the Temple is always a significant moment for me - as it is for so many more.

When I have had particulary hard times in my life, I think about the Temple Burns I've experienced and that moment, when as far as I can see, I am looking at beautiful, dirty, tired faces, gazing at the fire and it gives me renewed faith in this crazy world of ours.

Maybe someone else will take up David's project, and we'll have a Temple to visit, but if not, I will miss it.

Just thought I'd share.

And hey, maybe this will be the first year I do an art project and build a little Temple at Camp ? to burn!

Hello Everyone,

Here are the directions to get to Pismo Beach this weekend for the Scorpio’s Piknik. I am excited that you all can finally make it down to the beach with us. You will have a blast.

Hwy 101 South to Oceano and take (approx 200 mi)

Five Cities Drive exit and turn left onto Five Cities Dr .

Right on 4th Street

Right on Grand Ave

Left on Hwy 1 Pacific Blvd.

Right on Pier Ave

Pier Ave will go straight onto the beach, this is where the Ranger’s booth is. There is a parking lot at the end of Pier Ave and at the end of Grand Ave. Grand Ave also goes straight onto the beach, but it is a longer drive down the beach, so you probably don’t want to get on there.

If you need to get any food or supplies when you get down there? The Five Cities exit will have a few gas stations, and fast food restaurants. There is an Am Pm at 4th Street where you turn right, and there will be a 7/11 at Grand Ave also. If you need a grocery store, auto part store or other restaurants, you will find them all on Grand Ave if you turn left and head East. Grand Ave will hit 101 if you keep driving up it. Or you can also take the Grand Ave exit from 101 if you miss the Five Cities Drive exit. Just take Grand Ave west until you hit Hwy 1 Pacific Blvd when you want to get to the beach.

If you plan on driving down the beach, proceed with caution. You will have to let some air out of your tires, I would say lower them down to about 15-20 PSI. Make sure you have my cell phone number for when you get to the beach so we can tell you where we are and we’ll come and escort you in. If you get stuck don’t panic, and try not to spin the tires into the sand, it will only make it harder to pull you out. Momentum is your friend when driving on the sand, so try to stay at the speed limit on the beach, 15 MPH. If you do get stuck give me a call and I can pull you out. And yes, almost everyone gets stuck from time to time.

High tide is at 9:45 pm on Thursday night and low tide is at 3:19 am. The high tide is only a 3.8 ft, so you should not have to worry too much about the beach being gone. It is always easier when the tide is out, because the sand will be wet and hard. Try to stay near the hard packed sand, the soft sand is harder to drive through. If you do have to thru the soft sand try to have as much momentum as you can.

So after 3 weeks, I have finally uploaded all my pics from BM. I have a lot of really good funny ass photos. I had so much fun this year with all of you. It was really cool to see how much our family grew, and still very close. I feel like I really got to connect with all of you. I love everything about Burning Man. I love all the crazieness, all the planning, all the preparing, all the spending, all the creating, all the questioning, all the cleaning, all the loving, and all the madness. Oh and I forgot to mention to you all at BM that Rachael and I have reserved our date to get married. We forgot to mention it because we have been engaged now for about two years. It was sincerely a pleasure having y'all as neighbors across the street. I wish I made it over to your camp more, I certainly intended to, but before I knew it, it was time to break down the camp and return to the default world. Your vibe and music were awesome, and all of the ? members I met were straight up great people.

Well I finished. I put up a lot pictures I hope you don't mind. I tried to get shots of everyone at our camp, I did realized that Todd somehow got away from my camera. I'll get you next year. LOL I hope you all like the shots I did get.
I want to thank everyone for being a very special part of my Burn. I couldn't of asked for a better group to call my family. I will miss you, till next year, and use memories of our time to get me through the year.

ride to burning man?

hey y'all, is anyone from camp ? still in the bay area and have extra room in their car for transportation to the playa? i had plans to stay at this camp, but miscommunications have left me without a ride and i'm not giving up easy, cos this is the first time i'll be goin to burning man and i can't wait to be there! i won't take up much physical space in your car, but i'll bring lotsa positive energy and love, and i'm trustworthy to ride with, i swear =) hope to hear back from a fellow ? camper ~namaste~agape~love~ <3sequoia

I might be the last one to have seen this - but I am so EXCITED that this year we can recycle in Reno!

I just wanted to put a shout out to Camp ? To support the Albertson/Save Mart shops on your way out by getting your playa supplies - since they will be doing 24 hour recycling for everyone post Burn...amazing!!!!

007 Reno Drive-Thru Recycling Initiative
Saturday August 25 through Wednesday September 5 (Keystone location
operating until Sept. 9)

Open 24 Hours

In a multi-community effort to promote recycling, several Albertson’s/
Save Mart supermarkets in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City will for the
first time be carving off a part of their parking lots and setting them
aside for recycling drop-off stations for our community, throughout and
following the Burning Man event.

All of these locations will be along burner-travel routes west and south
of Black Rock City (I-80, US-395, and Hwy 445), and open 24 hours
(including LABOR DAY, when most of the commercial recycling plants in
Reno are actually closed).

This recycling initiative is free, designed for your convenience, and
designed for maximum capacity, to help lighten up anyone’s load to and
from BRC. Proceeds raised from these recyclables will be donated to
support environmental initiatives and education through the Gerlach High
School.

Check out what they’re accepting: plastics (HDPE 1,2,4,&5), plastic
bags, glass, all metals (aluminum, tin, steel, iron, etc.), paper,
cardboard, and rechargeable batteries… even leftover bikes. Everything
except your dusty campmates, out of your backseat and off to be
recycled. All you have to do is drive into the parking lot and drop off
your recyclables in the dumpsters and bins provided.

Your recyclables will need to be as clean as possible before depositing
– and, PLEASE, PLEASE, NO garbage dumping. Your participation and care
is very much appreciated! If this recycling initiative proves to be a
success, it can become a multi-year project for the Burning Man
community, according to these folks.

Think about it: Instead of guiltily chucking your recycling into a
dumpster or the landfill because you had to leave on Monday or in the
middle of the night, you can do the right thing with your recyclables
without ever leaving your car…and the Gerlach High School gets your
help maintaining their new solar panel donation and learning more about
alternative energies.

I just wanted to wish all of you safe travels to the playa. I know that some of you are leaving as soon as tomorrow (TSE, Question, Todd, & Rachael). I'm very jealous, I wish we could be there sooner to help you set up. The majority of the Philly portion of Camp? will arrive on Sunday evening as soon as we can get through the gate, so have your hugs ready!!! See you soon.

We Have An Address!!! and Plea for Interaction...

Hey y'all,
So we have been placed and approved for everything. Whew! Our current address is 4:30 and ARCTIC, so we should have a lot of people coming by. That brings us to my next subject, interactive stuff. I talked to the heads of Black Rock City and they said that they know our camp will LOOK great (pressure!), but they would like us to be as interactive as possible. They love the question booths and the other things like that, for 24 hr interactivity, and we could still use help with those. But, I wanted to open it up more to everyone. I was thinking maybe some of you might like to do something that you don't have to construct. Anything, like perform, read, speak, play or anything you feel, just let me know. A lot of things can be interactive, as long as you are involving someone else. If you show them how to do something, or do something they could watch or listen to, or even just talking to someone, that is all good interaction. But please don't let me limit you, you tell me what is interactive. Let's see what grows. You are all such great people to interact with, that just you guys all being there will be the best interactive project in our entire camp.
Thank you all for being a part of this ride, you make it incredibly fun!

We are now being placed.

The process has begun. Sorry for being away we have been incredibly busy, (there is just too much life to live!) in very good ways. We just got back from S.D. where Michelle ran a marathon, she was inspiring, finished in just 4 1/2 hours and could have kept running right after ! NUTZ! So, back to buisness, the application form , camp diagram , and camp L.N.T. /clean up plan have been submitted and we have got responces. We are being placed, we should continue with our current planning, and they have recieved many concerns & questions for early arrivals, so they have a new easier system to be put in place for that. They will be sending out info for that soon. The peverbial ball has started to roll, get on the ball. my neighbor just came by to show us his necklace design (man in recycl. symbol like mo's! this yrs theme is perfect!) and reminded me we are down to just a few more weekends. So we are going to try and do as much as possible. We are getting together as many Sundays as we can, and if anyone would like to plan anything let us know. We were talking about clothing nights or something. We have a bunch of stuff started, we can use anything from sewing to woodworking, or even helping think of perfect questions. Whatever, we got holes, can you fill em'?
Anyway, no matter what Camp? will be better than ever. Todd is working on more alt. energy for camp, and has many projects and upgrades being worked on. We are stepping up alot of our equipment and trying to improve all of the elements in camp. We are going to try and have a good plan for leaving no trace and keeping camp as clean as poss. Mayle will be the "go to guy" for our L.N.T./clean up planning. Anyone that wants to help him with that or has any ideas/plans they want to talk about, get at him.
Ok just wanted to let you know where we are at so far. We are sending out as much positive thoughts to you as we can...............

My wife (Jen) and I met some of you two years ago, when we camped next to you with/as Camp NFT. We're coming back this year, although Camp NFT will (so far) only be four strong (Jen, myself, Natalie and Dorrit).

This may be a good place to organize our creative energy. We can also communicate to everyone at once, even to those who are far away.
Camp? was incredible last year, everything that everyone did was perfect! And I mean EVERYTHING! Each thing no matter how small, made Camp? work.
Blowouts on the freeway can't stop us! No early admittance won't keep us out! Physical ailments? No Problem! And emotional devastations? Well, okay, but we get back up!
Hell, not even a tornado can keep us down.
Seriously though, Camp? was at it's best last year, and next year will be even better.
As individuals we do so many great things, together we are limitless.
