October Intensive Update

Hey guys,

Spaces are still available for my intensive October 23rd-25th. I've extended the early bird price of $240 for all 3 days until October 16th. After that you will have to pay the 1/2 day price of $45, or $90/day.

I would also like to clarify what will be taught. I pulled the workshop together to capture pretty much everything that I knew I wasn't going to get around to in weekly classes, with a hefty dose of drilling. Here's a clarification of how the individual sections differ from my weekly classes:

Friday October 23rd (Aurora Live Studios, 392 Queen Street E)
12-2pm: Yoga and fast technique.
230-430: Technique contin. and flexibility training
These are pretty much the only section where there will be some overlap with my Technique classes, but of course, we will be doing so much more drilling than we could possibly fit in in a 75 min class. More variations, different speeds, and lots of sweating. I will also be going into detail about the flexibility training method that I use. I will be explaining the biomechanical reasons why and how it works, how it was developed, and how to apply it to different stretches. This will not be covered in any weekly classes.

Saturday October 24th (Mad For Dance 263 Adelaide St. West)
1230-230: Fusion, movement invention, and creating choreography
This workshop is geared towards more intermediate and advanced dancers - those who either want to start choreographing or who want to improve their existing choreography skills. This will include exercises, demonstrations, discussion, brainstorming, and a LOT of personal feedback.

3-5: Flapper fusion
I will be teaching "That's a Plenty," the fast section from my performance at Tribal Fest 2008:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqG-7DNB1No
I have not taught this choreography before and will not be teaching it during weekly classes.

Sunday October 25th (Mad For Dance 263 Adelaide St. West)
12-2: Funk styles for bellydancers - Funkifying your bellydance and bellydancifying your funk.
"We will be going over how to utilize bellydance technique to create illusory effects in popping, contracting different muscle groups to create a hit, breaking down boogaloo rolls in bellydance terminology, and flipping arm waves inside and out. I will also be discussing different dance styles that are commonly performed with popping, and the distinction between popping and locking."

Although some of these concepts are referenced in weekly classes, and some individual moves may be used, I simply do not have time in 60 min to break them down and explain the differences systematically. Funk dance styles are very confusing, mislabeled, overlapping, and rarely taught in clear, safe, muscular basis. This workshop is an attempt to rectify that.

230-430: Slow technique and flexibility.
I will be incorporating elements of my yoga practice to create exercises to improve and practice balance. We will also be drilling moves EXTREMELY slowly, think eighth or sixteenth time.

I would also like to add that this may be a one time opportunity to take this workshop. At this point, I have no plans to repeat this workshop, and, may not be able to continue weekly classes. So, that being said, if you are interested, I recommend taking advantage of it now.

Any questions, please send me an email,

Love,

Friday, October 23, 2009 at 8:30pm (1st bellydance set at 9:30, 2nd at 10:30)
Labspace Studio
2a Pape St.
Toronto, ON

Business as Usual proudly presents our inaugural bash: Hipnotech

featuring:

Rosanna McGuire [Business as Usual | www.cleoflaptra.com]

Rosanna returns to Southern Ontario after spending 2 years studying and performing in San Francisco. There, she studied with a who’s who of bellydance: Suhaila and Jamila Salimpour, FCBD, Jill Parker, Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, Mira Betz, Cera Byer, and Amy Sigil. In California, Rosanna also had the opprtunity to expand her movement repertoire outside of bellydance and into vinyasa yoga, breakdance, house, and locking. She is known for her unique interpretation of tribal fusion, incorporating elements of vintage jazz dances as well as hip-hop, while referencing traditional styles of Middle Eastern dance. Rosanna continually strives to dance outside of her own box and fully admits to having dance ADD.

Rosanna is also teaching a bellydancing workshop that same weekend. Weekly classes now being held in Toronto. See http://www.cleoflaptra.com/instruction.html for details!

Musical support from:

JD Mack [Business as Usual | Opulent Temple]

Opulent Temple heavy hitter JD Mack (aka Nick McAlister) steps in with his blend of bass heavy dancefloor stompers—everywhere from slamming breaks to slamming techno (see a pattern developing here?). Having played around the world, from Bondi Beach to Burning Man (alongside DJ Dan, Christopher Lawrence and Carl Cox to name a few), J.D. is once again getting ready to unleash the beast on Toronto’s unsuspecting victims.

G Cue [Raw Soul]

Gerard Valdez, aka G Cue, has been playing his own brand of chunky, funky house in Toronto and surroundings for years and is a major threat on the decks. Cofounder of the Raw Soul and a regular at underground house jams put on by Nine, Boogie Inc. and Bounce. Gerard has been djing for 16 years of his life, learning and being inspired by Toronto locals as well as visiting stars like Mark Farina and Derrick Carter. Gerard has also played the Harvest Festival, Promise Cherry Beach parties, Circa and Footwork, to name just a few of his musical appearances and milestones.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tickets $10 in advance at http://www.cleoflaptra.com/performance.html, more at the door, and reduced after the bellydance performance is over.

Sweatin' to the not-so-oldies: Classes with Rosanna!

STARTING NEXT WEEK!!!

Since I'm now north of the border, time to offer some classes! I'm offering technique classes separate from combo classes. This way dancers from any style can come and refine their technique and build stamina. Fusion combos is my own application of bellydance technique in crazy wonderful ways. Music and choreography will be extremely non-traditional.

I will also have some select goodies for sale(new, second hand, and hand made), some from SF and some from my closet.

Starts September 23rd at Aurora Live Studios 392 Queen Street E., Toronto (N. Side of Queen St.- 1 Block East of Parliament St.). We will be in the downstairs studio.
http://www.auroraliveinc.com

PLEASE - take off your shoes immediately when you enter upstairs. If there's a class in session, proceed quietly to the back of the studio to get to the stairs.

Wednesdays
6-715: Technique - All technique classes will be multi-level, with
different options given for each level. Students will be encouraged
to work at and push their own level with beginners focussing on
execution of single movements and more advanced students working on
speed, footwork, and layering. These classes will be geared to
drilling technique used accross bellydance styles. Please be prepared to sweat (towel, water bottle). Bring a yoga mat if desired.

More beginner students are encouraged to come to this class (but all levels will be
catered to).

715-830: Technique - Follows same format as earlier class, but with
different drills and variations.

830-930: Fusion combos - Fusion combos will primarily be hip
hop-bellydance fusion stuff (but may be something completely different...) and is geared towards people with prior bellydance and/or hip hop background. It will be dance-y dance-y and not drill-y drill-y.

Thursdays
6-7: Fusion combos

7-815: Technique

815-9: Stretching and Flexibility - Led stretching sequences to
improve flexibility. This class is meant to complement the work done
in the prior technique classes, ironing out tight muscles for the
weekend. Students are therefore encouraged to come to both. Please bring any yoga props (mat, blocks, strap).

Prices (cash or check only, can paypal in advance)
Technique (75 minutes) $15
Fusion combos (60) $12
Stretching and flexibility (45) $5 with previous class, $10 otherwise
(MUST come in warmed up)

Currently I'm not offering class cards. I'm not able to guarantee the
continuation of classes over the long term, so only drop ins are
available. If there is sufficient demand, I will offer longer term
packages.

Intensive with Rosanna/Cleoflaptra

As some of you may already know, I'm moving back to the great white north in September. Since its been SOOO long since I've either taught or performed in Toronto and I've done SOOO much since I've been in San Fran, I've decided to pull together an extravaganza eleganza of dance madness. I'm packing in as much as possible into 3 days of teaching, as well as throwing a party with performances by moi, and beats courtesy of 2 of my favourite DJs, Nick McAlister and Gerard Valdez.

The details of the workshop have been sorted out and the schedule is as follows:

Friday October 23rd (Aurora Live Studios, 392 Queen Street E)
12-2pm: Yoga and fast technique.
Following a vinyasa warmup, we're going to drill drill drill. We'll be working on improving quality and speed of hip and upper body movements and adding footwork. Multiple level options will be given. Bring a towl and be prepared to sweat.

230-430: Technique contin. and flexibility training
More sweating. We will take advantage of our supple, warm muscles to safely and effectively increase our flexibility. We will be discussing techniques and practices specifically for helping those of us who were not born flexible!! Do you stretch and stretch but don't see any improvement? This is for you.

Saturday October 24th (Mad For Dance 263 Adelaide St. West)
1230-230: Fusion, movement invention, and creating choreography
We will be doing a combination of discussion and exercises on fusing dance styles, expanding your movement vocabulary, and creating solo choreography. Participants should bring "ideas in progress" for fusion, movements, and choreographies and be open to group discussion. This workshop is geared for dancers who either want to start performing solo, who want to improve their current solo choreographic work, and also for those who want to break out of using only a specific set of movements.

3-5: Flapper fusion
My dance-baby: a combination of vintage jazz dance and bellydance, completely fabricated from my own imagination. I will be teaching this style as an example of the principles discussed in the earlier workshop. Don't know what on earth this could be? See my video from Tribal Fest 2008:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqG-7DNB1No

Sunday October 25th (Mad For Dance 263 Adelaide St. West)
12-2: Funk styles for bellydancers - Funkifying your bellydance and bellydancifying your funk.
We will be going over how to utilize bellydance technique to create illusory effects in popping, contracting different muscle groups to create a hit, breaking down boogaloo rolls in bellydance terminology, and flipping arm waves inside and out. I will also be discussing different dance styles that are commonly performed with popping, and the distinction between popping and locking.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GYUOvjOlvg

230-430: Slow technique and flexibility.
This technique section will focus on drilling SLOOOOOOOWWWWWLLLLLLYYYY. We will also be doing yoga and other excercises to work on balance. We will end with more stretches (expanding on what we did on Friday).

430-5: Questions and wrap up

Cost
$240 before Sept 30
$275 after Sept 30

I'm new to your tribe so I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Field and I studied Egyptian style bellydance for about four years before I discovered ATS bellydance about a year and a half ago. It has become quite a passion of mine and I also perform with an ATS student troupe at events in the Toronto area. I have been sewing for many years so I am quite enthusiastic about the costuming aspect of the dance. I love to travel and I am interested in connecting with other dancers from all over. I'm thrilled that ATS has traveled to all parts of the world, too.
Last fall I had a brilliant idea which would combine my two loves. I began planning an ATS Dance Holiday in Marrakech, Morocco which I am hosting along with my instructor Valizan. So if anyone out there would like to study ATS while experiencing an exotic foreign land, please join us! It is open to all levels of ATS dancers. Please follow the link on my profile page or look for the event listing. Email me if you have any questions, or send me a friend request; since I am new to Tribe.net I don't have many friends here yet!
Best regards,
Field

The Indigos Le Serpent Rouge in Bellingham Friday May 8th at the nite lite!

Le Serpent Rouge: An Evening of Beguiling Dance and Strangely Familiar Music
Le Serpent Rouge is a wily half breed of vintage cabaret and old time music. Internationally renowned belly dance company The Indigo have charmed the hearts of princes and tramps alike, while The Crow Quill Night Owls and The Gallus Brothers have seduced the tympanums of thousands with their arresting interpretations of old timey country blues, jazz and pop. Sometimes enchanting, sometimes macabre, often raucous, but always delightful, this outfit breathes new life into the movement and spectacle of a bygone era in their new knockdown revue.

Current confirmed show details are as follows:

May 7 Sirens Port Townsend WA
May 8 Night Light Lounge Bellingham WA
May 10 Historical Armory Ashland OR
May 14 Broadway Studios San Francisco CA
May 17 Tribal Fest Sebastopol CA
May 20 Tractor Tavern Seattle WA
May 21 The Aladdin Theater Portland OR
May 23 Northwest Folk Life Festival Seattle WA
Please visit www.theindigo.net for more information.

Since the Indigo's inception in 2003, the company and its members have been seen throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia. The Indigo has toured extensively with The Bellydance Superstars, Lollapalooza, The Yard Dogs Road Show, and has performed at a number of festivals including the prestigious Glastonbury Festival. The Indigo has created and defined a new style of belly dance, embracing the roots of middle eastern dance while incorporating an aesthetic reminiscent of early twentieth century cabarets and world's fairs.

The Crow Quill Night Owls are submerged in the depths of old medicine show music like a serpent eating it's own tale,
playing a mix of 1920's jazz, jug band music, ragtime country blues, and minstrel songs gone feral.
Kit "Stymee" Stovepipe sings like the surface noise of an old 78 rpm record and picks a resophonic guitar like a broke down engine on rusty zig-zag tracks. while Windy City Alex shreds the tenor banjo and sings with a voice like piano notes gliding through the spokes of and old bicycle. The band is composed of part old instruments and part old junk, including tub bass, washboard, National steel guitar, banjo harmonicas and kazoos. They've indulged audiences all over the West Coast, from big concert hall to dusty street corner, playing the obscure songs of a forgotten America that sets people's toes to tappin'.

The Gallus Brothers play rollicking good country blues peppered with old rags, pre-war pop songs and dance tunes. Devin Champlin syncopates wildly on a reso-phonic guitar, while Lucas Hicks brings the music to a new level by playing percussion on a suitcase full of bones, bells, and antique tomfoolery. They have played up and down the west coast from festival stage to smoky bar, wooing crowds with their music, their humor, and their willingness to jump on a table, stand on eachother, and juggle while playing a good old tune from way back when.

MUST READ: Licensing for music

Yasmina Ramzy posted this on the Raks Toronto e-mail list, and I'm cross-posting it here because it is fairly important.

SOCAN - Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada

IMPORTANT - A law has been passed that enables SOCAN to charge all dance and fitness teachers and dance schools to pay licensing fees to be able to use prerecorded music from anywhere in the world in their classes.

If a school pays, it covers the teachers who teaches for that school but not outside. For a freelance teacher, it will probably run about $64.00 a year.

Schools can be in the thousands of dollars. I have been involved in many discussions with SOCAN and Dance Ontario
who has been advocating on our (dance community) behalf for them to more lenient. They are going after big schools right now but very soon will try and get everyone even teaching in the Church basement. They say they will be sending spies into classes to catch teachers in the act who do not have a license.

After Dec.2, full details will be available but I am just giving you a heads up. It is because you as a teacher are benefitting from the hard work and creation of another artist, so the same way you pay for these rights in performance, you will now have to pay in class.

This is a world wide movement so it is not going away. Yes, it applies to Egyptian music but not to music created over 50 years ago. Live drummers improvising and piano players who play Bach are obviously except.

The fees will probably be based on numbers of students. Sorry, for the bad news but on the other had I guess we do want to support other artists.

Will keep you updated.
Yasmina

ATS @ 45West - Vancouver

I just wanted to invite any ATS dancers to join me for weekly practice sessions.

Starting Saturday, December 13th I will be hosting weekly dance practice sessions from 2:00pm - 4:00pm each Saturday.

The location is 45West - at 45 West Hastings. The door is at the rear of the building, accessed through the back alley. There is a buzzer, if the door is locked, and my cell number is 605-809-5173 just in case the buzzer isn't working for some reason (there were a couple of weeks where it was broken this summer - so I just call if no one comes quickly to the door).

The cost is by donation - to cover the rental fee for the space.

Hope to see you there...

Hi everyone,
I've created a tribe called Bellydance Quebec.

(A little bit like Bellydance Toronto or Bellydance Vancouver, but about the province of Quebec!)

I think that staying informed about what's happening in the province is quite hard, that is why I've made that tribe!
It needs your participation to live and stay up to date! :D

Thanks!

Lava will be hosting the Fabulous Amy Sigil of UNMATA, from Sacramento Ca. for a 2 day workshop & show weekend in Vancouver BC, Canada!!

Nov.22 & 23/08!!!
2 days of extreme bellydance workshops and an evening show!!

...and "the Party" goes a little somethin' like this...

Saturday Nov.22 '08
11:30am - 3:30pm

Sigil School
Get a behind-the-scenes look at the teaching format of Amy
Sigil in this interactive split session with UNMATA. In the first
half of class, Amy will share her experience, ideas, and dance
doctrine—as well as answer your questions. In the second
half of class, you will get on your feet for a Sigil School
whirlwind demonstration. Tag words: warm-ups, transitions,
music, mixes, tempo, choreography, common vocab, work,
craft, drill, team, time, counting, working backwards, notes,
repetition, fellowship, and yes, you will sweat!

Sunday Nov.23 '08
11:30am - 3:30pm

Rocking the Tribal Boat
Jump in feet first into the UNMATA Sea of Bellydance Fusion! You will get wet - but let's see how many moves you can fit into your tribal boat. This workshop features some rowdy Sigil Signatures strung together with "make-sense" transitions. Take it all apart for choppy waters or string it together for smooth sailing

* Both days are held at
Scotia Dance Ctr - 677 Davie St
(Davie & Granville - downtown Van)

** First registration package deadline coming up - Oct.1'08!!!

for all registration details go to:

Finally got my "stuff" together . . .

and after much prompting from fellow dancers I've finally got a website and I'm up on eBay.ca :) Sorry for the blatant "self-promotion" but I make tribal coin bras and cowrie hair falls. After finally getting (reasonably) organized, I've got a little website and I'm also going to try to sell on eBay. (I'm such a chicken. Perfectly happy to sell to my local gals here in the Peg, but it's time my little creations got to bloom and go to other wondrous places of the world! LOL ;))

So if you are at ALL in the market, I've got all my items listed on eBay.ca (Canadian site only, NOT U.S.) and my website is called "Nhazama Tribal Designs" (On eBay just punch in "tribal coin bras" or "cowrie hair falls". Oh hell . . . you're Tribal dancers!! You know how to use eBay!! LOL )

http://www.freewebs.com/nhazama/

Thanks!!

Hey all!

So, I kind of decided to do something a little spontaneously. I am running for the Bad Knit Girl of July and could really use some tribal support. It's a pin-up type contest for bad ass knitters. If you win, you become the Girl of the Month and will be included in a calender down the line.

http://freakknitter.typepad.com/knit_girls/vote.html

I'm the last girl on the page, Heather/Maevan. Amusingly, I'm a close third to a fellow bellydancer! I want to represent the tattooed bellydancing craftly ladies of the world in the Bad Knit Girl calender.

Anyway, feel free to ignore this or delete it if you don't think it's appropriate. I figured there was no harm in asking :)

Instructors:
Ava Fleming:
With her extensive knowledge and experience in international dance
styles, Ave Fleming brings a truly unique and modern approach to the
belly dance community.L ocated in Phoenix, Arizona, her teaching and
performances throughout the Southwestern region have created quite a
demand for her practice of Raks Sharqi. Her focus on isolations and
music interpretation has captivated audiences here in the U.S. and
abroad. As the director, choreographer, and creator of the Black Opal
Dance Company, audiences have had the opportunity to see her creative
dance style amplified by ten. Ava's 2004 Belly Dancer of
the Universe title (Egyptian category) has only furtherd her popularity
with all who have seen her dance. Ava's instructional and performance
dvds have inspired and challenged many who have taken on the task of
studying her elegant example of the modern belly dancer through which
novices and
masters alike will gain challenge and insight

Kami Liddle:
Kami's style is what she calls a modern fsuion of an ancient dance.
Although she is primarily a tribal dancer, she pulls from the various
styles of belly dance that she has studied, as well as modern, hip hop,
jazz, and bhangra dance. Kami performs both as a solo artist and also
collaborates wh iotther dancers. She is a guest artist for The Indigo,
directed by Rachel Brice, and has also worked with Samatha Riggs of Boom
Boom Bollywood on choreography and periodically performs with the
company. Kami was nominated for "Best Kept Secret" and "Best
interpretive Artist" for 2005
Zaghareet Magazine and won the title "Entertainer of the Year 2005" at
the Wiggles of the West. Kami currently tours with The Bellydance
Superstars.

Samantha Riggs:
Samantha Riggs is the Founder, Artistic Director, Choreographer and Lead
Dancer for bothB oom Boom Bollywood and The Sexy Scallywags Pirate
Circus in Tempe, Arizona, and is a performer with Fyrae fire arts
troupe. She was the assistant director as well as a core dancer,

We're excited to welcome Moria to the Nation's Capital for a weekend workshop and show, May 3-4!

Moria will be teaching technique and combinations I believe in her infamous 'Bellydance Bootcamp' style. And I tell you, it is one hell of a workshop. I had the good fortune to take a class with her near Toronto last year and she is a fabulous and challenging instructor.

The workshops are four hours each Saturday and Sunday, though we are still hammering out the exact times with the studio, it should be between 12-5ish each day.

Location is 151 Chapel St and we are hosted by both Swing Dynamite and Dancestudios.ca.

The show will also be in a downtown location with a licensed area which we are working on confirming.

Workshop registration $150 both days, $85 one day only, show tickets $20 each.
Space is limited to 30 people. Vending by BDSS and Shakti fusion only.

Featured performers at the moment include Moria Chappell, Shakti fusion bellydance, and our guests Ethereal Tribal (Montreal) and Dollhouse Dance Co (Ottawa).

Heather's diverse movement and arts background feeds her creativity and her innovative approach to choreography. Urban Tribal Dance Company is known for it's contemporary approach to the dance, a pared down costume emphasizing body movements over ornamentation, athleticism and the use of the dance form as a means of personal expression and interpretation. Their creativity has twice earned them the title of "Troupe of the Year" in Zaghareet! Magazine's Golden Belly Awards. In addition to teaching several weekly classes in San Diego since 1999, Heather Stants and Urban Tribal Dance Company have been touring extensively since 2004 sharing their love of modern tribal bellydance with dancers in the U.S. and abroad. Urban Tribal Dance Company is widely recognized as one of the top tribal fusion pioneers.

I still have room on Sunday. For Saturday and the VIP room, there only a few spots left. Don’t miss out on your chance to learn from great tribal and fusion teachers. This is your only chance to get 8 professional classes in one week-end!

Show: Hafla on Friday night

I don’t have all the confirmations from our dancers, but I can say it will be great! We are pleased to present great dancers, creating their style, exploring and having a blast. I can announce the following: Les Shuvanies, Tribu Ghabal (Trois-Rivières),
Zoukra (Montréal) et Leslie (Ottawa). When I have all the confirmations, I will announce the others. Bare in mind it is a smaller venue, only 10 tickets left. We will enjoy the show, have mint tea and share a good time. 

Show: Gala on Saturday night

Tickets will be available on Monday, it is time to act! TEACHERS, buy 6 tickets and yours is free. I will announce in a week or so the complete line up for that evening. Remember, we have Kajira et Seba de Blacksheep Bellydance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccMLhM75NSQ), Unmata
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fY83aFzK3x8) et Bellyqueen

After show party:

We wanted to end the evening on a casual note and have fun meeting new people and sharing ideas. After the show, you are invited to stay with us to talk, eat, drink and dance with the fabulous music of our musicians jamming the evening away. Bring your belt, tabla, zills, sagats!!!

Bazar:

There will be a bazar on Saturday night. Come visit our tribal souk and make a wonderful discoveries, find great tools for your technique. We will have different vendors on site!

I think that is all for now. If you have questions, please do ask them!

ZILLS DAT KILLZ (Intensive) Finger Cymbal Workshop!

My next ZILLS DAT KILLZ workshop is coming up!!!

Sun FEB.17/08
12 - 3pm
Scotia Dance Ctr. - 677 Davie St.

* These finger cymbal workshops are designed to be beneficial to bellydancers of any style, any skill level.

* Finger Cymbals are not only a wonderful accompaniment to Bellydance, but also it is a fabulous tool for learning musical timing and layering. So, whether you dance/perform with them regularly, or not, these workshops are meant to help everyone with hearing/feeling their music, their timing, and learn, practice & perfect the exciting art of Finger Cymbals. It is always a pleasure to experience someone dancing and using finger cymbals well, plus it is a wonderful talent to be able to make your own music, should you need it!
* This is also an excellent tool for training your body to layer movement - and many have found it to be a pivotal point in their layering abilities.
* PLUS - this time we will also work on patterns/combos, and put them into a piece of choreography!!!

* for workshop & registrations details - http://lavastudio.ca/workshops/?workshop_id=26

or PM me for any questions.

This may be the only workshop I get to do for a while, because of travelling, so I'm hoping as many of you as possible who have been asking about these finger cymbals workshops can make it!!!!

thanks, hope to see you there!

Which Bellyqueen are coming to TY08?

I just received the confirmation, here are the list of the wonderful 7 Bellyqueen coming to TY08 :

1. Kaeshi
2. Amar Gamal
3. Anasma
4. Elisheva
5. Sandralis
6. Cara
7. Irina.

Bellyqueen are known for bellydancing, but they are FUSION QUEEN for me. I have been admiring them for a long time. They have a strong oriental technique, but they learn new techniques and disciplines - and create unique choreography with no bounderies. And they are wonderful women too... it will be great to have them! :D

Here are some links to discover them a little more...

Kaeshi : http://youtube.com/watch?v=xY3XJxhiW3g
Anasma : http://youtube.com/watch?v=VvNY54JO7zQ
Sandralis : http://youtube.com/watch?v=n-Y36CX01y0
Clip promo (un peu de tout) : http://youtube.com/watch?v=C63t_8gW4yg

I won't tell you everything, but they prepared a lot of new choreographies for TY08. They will present some tribal fusion, bellypopping, drum solo (the same she will teach us on sunday!), etc.
TY08 - Sunday à la carte!

Hello again!

We have room on Sunday for TY08 so we decided to offer classes "a la carte" to those who could not attend a full day. :) You can choose what you need, each class are 45 $ (taxes included) for 90 minutes + a questions period.

9 - 9:30 Registration
9:30 - 11 Bellyqueen—Tribal Fusion Drum solo « special K »
11 - 11:30 Break
11:30 - 13 Unmata—The fast and the Furious
13 - 14 Lunch
14 - 15:30 Kajira—Hand percussions
15:30 - 16 Break
16 - 17:30 Les Trib’elles—Tribal fusion choreography

Bellyqueen will teach the Tribal Fusion Drum solo “special K” that they danced on saturday night. :D

“UNMATA, The Fast & The Furious”: This intense workshop focuses on fast! Amy will lay down the stylistic foundation and technical breakdown for UNMATA’s awe-inspiring omis, ferocious shimmies, and bad-ass body pops. Each movement will include “transition-training” so it can be used alone or linked with other movements to create a short choreography. UNMATA is known for beat-your-butt drilling and technical obsession, so bring lots of water and come prepared to sweat!

Kajira will teach hand percussions in Tribal (zills, sagats, Turkish spoons…) and how to dance AND play at the same time in a appropriate manner. A wonderful and fun workshop! Kajira will have some turkish spoons to sale...

With help from my troupe mates Les Trib'elles, I will teach a wonderful tribal fusion sword choreography with flavor from India and Turkey. Forget about technique and trying to impress everyone with your prouwess, we will work on dancing WITH a sword as an extension of us.

Let us know at tribelles@hotmail.com to reserve a class or two! or three!

M :)

Suhaila format workshops with Audra - Toronto

Upcoming Suhaila workshops

Friday Feb 1, 2008
The Dark Side Studio, 355 A College Street, Toronto

Suhaila 101 - 6 to 8 pm $30
Suhaila 201 - 8 to 10 pm $30 * Participants must hold valid level 1 or higher certification from SSSD to attend Suhail 201

Suhaila 101
Join Audra for a 2 hour workshop working with the concepts and isolations in the format of Suhaila Salimpour.

Technique will be broken down and demonstrated and drilled without a particular stylistic slant, making this workshop perfect for any style belly dancer. This workshop is for those new to Suhaila's format and for those not certified.

Suhaila's brilliant format breaks the connection between weight placement and movement which dramatically opens up the possibilities for belly dance movement. In addition, Suhaila's format also makes use of musical timing (taking the guess work out of when to perform movement in both drills and choreography) as well a specific muscular contractions to execute the movements.

Pre-registration is highly recommended
http://www.cleopatrasbazaar.com/product_info.php?cPath=53&products_id=1151

Suhaila 201
All participants must hold valid level 1 or higher certification from SSSD.

Audra leads 2 hours of strengthening, and drilling (both stationary and moving) based on the format of Suhaila Salimpour with the specific focus of increasing the speed and complexity of the movements and footwork. Some layering will be introduced both seated and standing.
