While we are more and less than our astrological associations, and astrologically more than sun-sign influence, the Sun does symbolize a central energy astrologically in many perspectives.
It is the central equilibrium and gravitational center for all other planets in our solar system.

Though sometimes viewed according to pop-astrologys' oversimplification of the Sun as simply symbolizing ego, the Astrological symbolism of our sun sign energy may more clearly be expressed & viewed as the core, central energy we are born to experience, express, learn & contribute through in a earthly incarnation.
Which is deeper than a superficial ego, or at least requires a reinterpretation of "ego" in a more spiritual, unified light.
Perhaps, as the quality & energetic nature through which ones pure, undefined spiritual energy is focused in this physical incarnation? Like a magnifying glass or prism which recieves the white, diffuse radiant energy of the sun and focuses it into a specific point.

In this perspective, the Sun sign takes on a significant meaning & place in Astrological interpretation.
It is the center which all other planets revolve around & the light by which they can be viewed by.

Some level of discernment & focus is helpful for delving into areas of Life & relationships. This can be helpful in promoting richer explorations & discoveries in various realms of being through focusing ones explorations within a specific area.
