I asked this in another tribe but no-one answered. Maybe because I was new so first off apologies if it seems that I've just landed and I'm asking questions right away. I will do my best to contribute to the other posts too :-)
Anyway rising signs. I met a guy recently and we had a definite connection but we're living in different countries so beautiful as it was (and it was!) we both accepted that it was only ever to be a fleeting thing. However, I don't want to later discover that I made a big mistake in letting it go and although I don't live my life purely by astrology I thought I'd check out what people think about our compatability.
I'm pisces, he's leo but my rising sign is saggitarius and his is scorpio and I wondered if that was significant at all ie both sun signs being compatible with other's rising signs. We've also both got venus in air signs, his in libra, mine in aquarius. Do these things matter as much as your sun sign? Do they matter more? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Re: how important are rising signs?
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 7:06 AMin my experience the rising is VERY important. In fact, the ancient romans as well as Hindus considered the rising sign to be the most important sign. I'm a Scorpio rising guy myself and I find that most times I out-scorpio the scorpio suns and moons. LOL so be prepared for some heavy fixed intensity. There is also the possibility that the rising will be weak and eclipsed by other signs in the birth chart, but from my experience Scorpio rising is always very powerful. -

Re: how important are rising signs?
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 4:04 PMAxe: how does on out-scorp a scorp? lol. i am scorp sun and scorp rising, uranus rising...maybe it gives me a bit of an edgy look instead of a brooding intense scorpio look hehe :-).
anyway i think of the three majors like this:
sun: inner, the spiritual us
moon: how we react emotionally.
asc: how we carry ourselves.

Re: how important are rising signs?
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 9:27 PMI did my baby nephew's chart when he was born a year and a half ago and he had SIX planets in scorpio. I did his mother and father's charts too and they each had 5 or 6 planets in scorpio. quite an intense household wouldn't you think?? Thanks for answers. -

Re: how important are rising signs?
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 8:25 AMRising sign is the face you wear on the outside. Sort of the opposite of the Moon which represents your inner self. It is the first impression that people get of you.
I have Cancer rising and can be quite Mooney and Looney giving the proper circumstances. Makes me a domestic type, I love cooking, fine wines, good company and a happy homelife.
My Grandmother is a Cancer and she raised me mostly, so I absorbed a lot of her personality into mine. Including the moodiness. -

Re: how important are rising signs?
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 5:44 PMMy opinion is that astrology is a poor way to judge the potential of a relationship. A lot more depends on how actuated the people involved are and whether they're at similar levels of development.
Astrology can help you recognize some of the reasons for attraction and some of the challenges but that's about all. No divination form can tell you conclusively whether things "will" or "won't" work out. That's really up to you.
"Compatible" really just means easily friendly. But a relationship that is completely compatible is just tediously boring and completely lacking in growth potential. -
