Howdy,
Due to health reasons, I am now at home permanently on disability and got this wild hair the other day wanting to make candles. Looking for activities to keep me busy. Got a twist in mind and thought I'd look into this as a possible home based income opportunity. Got a couple of books from the library that I'm reading, but could not find 'Candlemaking for Dummies.' I'm thinking of scented container candles. Any help starting me off in the right direction will be grately appreciated!

Re: How to get started?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 10:15 AMI've been making and selling candles for a couple of years now and it can definitely be fun and creative. Go for it! And there's certainly a market for handmade candles out there. Just don't get started on the business aspect of it unless you're sure you really love doing it. It's not a big money-making thing (at least not for the first few years), but it's great if you want a self supporting hobby and make a little extra too. :)
As far as books go I would recommend The Candlemaker's Companion by Betty Oppenheimer. I know there are lots of other great ones out there but I think this is a good start.
And for selling - one great place is Etsy.com. (It's a great place to buy too if you haven't been there before.) :) My Etsy shop is at dragon06.etsy.com
Good luck and have fun!
