Will be leaving tribe: new moderator anyone?

Hi everyone,
I am sorry to say that I will be unsubbing from tribe but because tribe doesn't make it easy to delete groups and I wouldn't want to delete them when I do'nt need too since someone can easily request to take it over. While I do'nt have time to wait to see if someone here would like to take over as moderator and make these groups their own it's an easy process to do so if you would like too. just email tribe and request it.

I don't have time now to devote to being a good tribester in postings and keeping up with my own tribes soooo with lots of thanks for those that joined and participated and read and enjoyed I say see ya later and thanks again for joining.

the group will just stay up and you can actually unless they changed it still post and chat with eachother. even the picture posting still should work.but the settings are on moderated and I don't want to change that since that may bring spammers and those that wish to stay on the tribes may not want this sooo if someone can moderate the tribe/s please do.

then you can change the settings as you wish and also have new folks join if it's on moderated since you need to subscribe them.

thank you and blessings to all in their lives!
there are folks who have tribes here that may even like to take over the tribes and make them their own so if you see my tribes and still no new moderator feel free to ask tribe about moderating it. I leave these to others.
=^-^-=

My ginger tom, the light of my life, died yesterday evening.

We'd come home from dinner and groceries and found him beneath the holiday tree. He was still warm, and my husband thought he felt a pulse, so my aunt did cpr as we rushed to the vet. Unfortunately we were too late, and even if we'd been around there was nothing we could've done. Our vet said that he would've gone fast, and without pain. We buried him with his favourite blanket, a tin of his favourite treats, one of his most loved toys, and a small statuette of Bast.

He was, and always will be, a son to me. His mother and two brothers have been trying to keep our spirits up, bless their hearts.

I'm not sure why I'm posting here, I'm not really looking for sympathy. I guess I just wanted someone else, someone outside our family, to know he existed and that he was amazing and special and wonderful and my reason for getting up in the morning. I bottle-fed him for the first month of his life, until he was strong enough to suckle at his mom on his own, and he's been my little man since. His eyes were gold, like no cat's eyes I'd ever seen before, and he had a blaze on his nose and one little ginger toe on his otherwise white-socked feet. He had a tiny meow despite being a big, muscled kitty, and he was a gentle giant. He'd pat my face at night and nuzzle my elbows when he wanted my attention. He'd come running whenever I'd make a clicking sound with my mouth. I still can't really get over the fact that he's gone, that he'll never come running when I call again. That I'll never wake up to him flopping over against me at night, or that my chair will never rock back when he climbs to sit on the top of it and lean against my head and shoulders. That I'll never hear his deep, loud purr or listen to him chase a crinkle ball in the obscene hours of the morning. I'm so very lost without him, we're both out of our minds. I know that we couldn't have made any difference even if we were there, but still I hope he heard my voice before he died. I hope to god he didn't die feeling alone. I couldn't take it. My heart's already broken, and I'll never know. I'll never ever know. How do I live with that? What do I do now? His brothers, his mom, they're all trying to keep us cheered up but I know they're grieving too. How do I help them?

What do I do? How do I remember him without feeling empty, without crying? How can I be strong?

I had to take momiji to the vet yesterday. just his annual. since I adopted him he has gone to the vet about 3 x in the past couple of years. he's about 2 and a half now...actually I guess a wee more...I can only guess that he was born sometime in april or may of 2005. he was about 5 months when I adopted him.

anyway...he does get very scared...meows a lot and all that...but this was the first time this happened.
so I brought him and took him out of his carrier when I realized his tail was all wet, then I did see his body was, feet and tummy and all...my kitten had been soooo scared he pee-d in his carrier.

I felt so bad. we (the vet asst. that sees him first) got him cleaned up best we could and she took the carrier back to clean it and all...
when I got home I cleaned him some more.
if all is well then he doesn't have to go back till next year but perhaps I have to prepare that this may happen with him.

So for those that has had this happen..any advice?

my other two kindlings over the years never had this happen so it was my first experience with this too...believe me momo has been getting much hugs...but then again I always give him tons!:-)

What does your Cat want to dress up as this Halloween?

ok this is just for fun.
I don't know if anyone does dress their kitties up but I don't but I was thinking ..gee if momiji wanted to dress up for halloween, what would that be?

so either what would you dress your cat up as or what would he dress up as?

For momiji it would have to be an anime ninja costume! he really is a ninja and he like his mom loves to watch anime!

Pet Cats Serving as Canaries for a Home Pollutant

this is an article from the NY times---
Hyperthyroidism in cats was virtually unknown three decades ago. But it has become common particularly in older pets. As in people, cats' over active thyroids can lead to weight loss, rapid heartbeat and other problems.
The increase in feline hyperthyroidism coincides with the advent of flame-retardant chemicals known as PBDEs, or polybrominated diphenyl ethers, in materials like carpet and upholstery padding, plastics and electronic equipment. So a study by Janice A. Dye of the Environmental Protection Agency and colleagues sought to explore possible links between the chemicals and the condition.
The researchers analyzed PBDE levels in serum from there groups of cats; young and healthy, hyperthyroid older cats and older cats with other diseases. Because of variability in each group, it was not possible to associate hyperthyroid cats and total PBDE levels.
But over all, as the researchers report in Environmental Science and Technology, PBDE levels were high in all cats, 20-100 times greater then in humans.
This may be because of cats' diets (the researchers analyzed PBDEs in cat food, and found canned seafood flavor food in particular had relatively high levels) and because they spend so much time on or near furnishings. Being meticulous groomers, cats may ingest PBDE-laden dust picked up from couches and carpets.
The researchers say more work is needed to explore the link between PBDEs and thyroid activity. What is clear, they say , is that cats are highly exposed to PBDEs, and thus may serve as a sentinel for understanding the effects of human exposure to the chemicals.

question of the day: What are you cats favorite Toys?

I thought maybe we can post some fun questions just to maybe get some chat going.
if you think of other things please feel free to post. I know we are a small group so far but I"m sure we'll have other ginger cat lovers here in the future.

any fun pictures too please post, they can photos of your cat/s and also other pictures relating to gingery goodness:-)

ok so What are momiji's favorite toys?

welllllllll...mo-mo turns out not to be a cat that plays a lot. I try to get him to play more for exercise but he dabbles at play and that's about it.
I was hoping he liked ball play. Max was really great at that, he could catch the ball (any ball, plastic bouncy balls), he could swat the ball, he would chase the ball and was like Pele, kicking it around....but Momiji just seemed to not know what to do, he is a bit at a loss...paper balls though seem to be the only balls he will play a bit with and I noticed since he can pick stuffed things up with his mouth and carry them about that he liked paper ball because he would pick it up and run out the room with it.

so every morning after his breakfast I make a little paper ball...unfortunatly a lot end up under the fridge and stove never to be seen again and in the foyer there is this large desk (it's an old drysink desk) and they get under there and so I can periodocally collect them to throw them out.
he also sometimes decides to chew them so they of course don't last but for that moment.

but his favorites are his stuffed little kitten that he can carry about and wrestle a bit and I have to give props to Fat Cat Toys, they are all cloth and made well. they are a bit expensive I feel but they are the only toys he takes to even a bit. his favorites have been the little fat cat mice, I have gone through about 4-5 of them so far as he carries them about, chews on them, tosses them about...they have a little ball inside that has catnip. once he starts to chew on them they are then called Frankinmice..because they get stictched up till they can't anymore and they look like they have had many surgeries, lol:-)

Max was a play toy cat...he liked to play a lot w/ you. loved ball and string and also had the little kittens that I had for momiji too as they were these prizes that I kept getting inside the johnny cat litter we used to buy and I ended up with 8-9 of them. he didn't carry about toys like mo-mo can but one thing he did do was with string...he would have a shoe string usually I would have for him so he couldn't sallow it or what not and no matter where I would throw it he would during the night retrieve it and in the morning it would be in his dry food bowl and sometimes in his water bowl. it was his nightly ritual for 17 years...he always did it when no one was looking but he liked to play with it as well and so would carry it around at times like a linus blanket.

Tuffee didn't play..I think maybe a ball now and then but that was a very long time ago and she was already 8 years old when I adopted her so unless she did play a lot at her previous home I don't think she was going to pick up on new activities.

Menu Foods Initiates Market Withdrawal of All Varieties of Recalled Wet Pet Food to Ensure Consumer Protection
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 24, 2007) - As a result of reports from the FDA and various media outlets that some recalled lots of "cuts and gravy" style wet pet food remain on store shelves, Menu Foods has asked all retail outlets to immediately remove all impacted varieties of wet pet food posted at www.menufoods.com , regardless of the date code.

Menu Foods remains concerned that consumers are able to purchase recalled items.

There is no known risk from items not listed on the recall list but an abundance of caution is called for in this situation.

UNION, N.J. (AP) -- Pet owners were worried Saturday that the pet food in their cupboard may be
deadly after millions of containers of dog and cat food sold at major retailers across North America
were recalled.

Menu Foods, the Ontario-based company that produced the pet food, said Saturday it was recalling
dog food sold under 48 brands and cat food sold under 40 brands including Iams, Nutro and
Eukanuba. The food was distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico by major
retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway.

An unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the
affected pet food, the company said.

Many stores that sold the affected brands frantically pulled packages off shelves.

Behavioral Trivia

Behavioral Trivia
------------------
Cats scratch to shed the sheaths of their old claws.
When a cat rubs against your legs, it is showing a affection and also putting its personal scent on you.
After being handled, cats lick themselves to smooth their fur and get rid of the "human" smell.
Licking is also thought to produce a calming effect.
A kitten's mother teaches it to hunt and kill. If a kitten isn't taught by its natural mother, chances are it won't know what to do with prey once it catches it.
Cats roll on their backs to show affection. They expose their bellies like this only when they feel totally secure.
Cats that live together sometimes rub each others heads to show that they have no intention of fighting.
Young cats do this more often, especially when they are excited.
Neutering cats dramatically reduces their territorial demands because the sex hormone (testosterone) is one of the factors that drives the cat to create and defend territory.
Spaying a female before her first or second heat will greatly reduce the threat of mammary cancer.
It also lowers the possiblity of pyometra (pus-filled uterus), metritus (inflammation of the uterus), and endometritus (inflammation of the uterine lining). And it isn't true that cats need to have at least one litter to be healthy.
Cats with long, lean bodies are more likely to be outgoing personalities than their stockier cousins.
They are also more protective of their home and more vocal and demonstrative.
Cats can learn tricks. They just sometimes choose not to.
Cats bury their feces to cover their trails from predators.
A female cat can begin mating when she is between 5 and 9 months old.
A male cat can begin mating when he is between 7 and 10 months old.
If left to her own devices, a female cat may have three to seven kittens every four months.
This is why population control using spaying and neutering is so important.
You can tell a cat's mood by looking into its eyes. A frightened or excited cat will have large, round pupils.
An angry cat will have narrow pupils. The pupil size is related as much to the cat's emotions as to the degree of light.
The way you treat a kitten in the early stages of its life will effect its personality traits in its adult life.
Cats love to hear the sound of their own name and your voice, so talk to them often.
Cats have a homing ability that uses its biological clock, the angle of the sun, and the Earth's magnetic field.
Spaying or neutering a cat extends it's life span by two or three years.
A cat in a hurry can sprint at about thirty-one miles per hour.
When a domestic cat goes after mice, about one pounce in three results in a catch.
A cat's tail held high means happiness.
A twitching tail is a warning sign, and a tail tucked in close to the body is a sure sign of insecurity.
Cats can get bored. They show their boredom by excessive licking, chewing, or biting.

Basic Rules For Cats Who Run A House

Basic Rules For Cats Who Run A House
--------------------------------------------------
DOORS: Do not allow closed doors in any room.
To get a door opened, stand on hind legs and hammer it with forepaws.

Once door is opened, it is not necessary to use it.
After you have ordered an "outside" door opened, stand halfway in and out and think about several things. This is particularly important during very cold weather, rain, snow, or mosquito season. Swinging doors are to be avoided at all costs.

GUESTS: Quickly determine which guest hates cats the most. Sit on that lap.

For sitting on laps or rubbing against trouser legs, select fabric which contrasts well with your fur. For example: white-furred cats go to black wool clothing.
NOTE: Velvet takes precedence over all other cloth.
For the guest who exclaims, "I love kitties!" be ready with aloof disdain, apply claws to stockings or arms, or use a quick nip on the ankle.

Always accompany guests to the bathroom. It is not necessary to do anything -- just sit there and stare.

HAMPERING: If one of your humans is engaged in some close activity and the other is idle, stay with the busy one. This is called "helping" otherwise known is "hampering." Some rule:

a) When supervising cooking, sit just behind the left heel of the cook.
You cannot be seen and thereby stand a better chance of being stepped on and then picked up and comforted.

b) For book readers, get in close under the chin, between eyes and book, unless you can lie across the book itself.

c) For knitting projects or paperwork, lie on the work in the most appropriate manner to obscure the maximum amount.
Pretend to dose but every so often reach out and slap the pencil or knitting needles.
Sit on the paperwork they are working on.
Roll around on the papers, scattering them to the best of your ability.
After being removed for the second time, push pens pencils, and erasers off the table, one at a time. Embroidery and needlepoint make great hammocks.

d) When a human is holding the newspaper in front of him/her be sure to jump at the back of the paper. They love surprises.

e) Dart out quickly and as close as possible in front of the human, especially: on stairs; when they have something in their arms; in the dark; and when they first get up in the morning. This will help their coordination skills.

f) When a human is attempting to "make the bed," hop on it and curl up in the center , or pounce on the sheet the human is trying to rearrange.
If the human tries to ignore you by covering you with the sheets, move around and try to mess things up. Protest loudly when you're evicted.

g) Laundry presents many opportunities to hamper.
Laundry fresh from the dryer is a perfect bed, since it is warm and soft.
As soon as it is put down for sorting, arrange yourself for a nap.
If the human removes you, keep returning until the laundry isn't warm anymore.
Now it's playtime. Pounce on anything the human tries to move around for folding, especially socks and nylons. For added fun, grab a sock and hide under the bed with it.

PLAY: This is an important part of your life.
Get enough sleep in the daytime so you are fresh for your nocturnal games.
Below are listed below are several cat games.
It is important though to maintain one's Dignity at all times.
If you should have an accident during play, such as falling off a chair, immediately wash a part of your body as if to say "I MEANT to do that!" It fools those humans every time.

4.1 GAMES:
a) Catch Mouse: The humans would have you believe that those lumps under the covers are their feet and hands. They are actually Bed Mice, rumored to be the most delicious of all the mice in the world, though no cat has ever been able to catch one.
Maybe YOU can be the first.

b) King of the Hill: This game must be played with at least one other cat.
Sleeping humans are the hill which must be defended at all costs from the other cat(s). Anything goes. This game allows for the development of unusual tactics as one must consider the unstable playing field.

WARNING: Playing games (a) and (b) to excess will result in expulsion from the bed. Should the humans grow restless, immediately begin purring and cuddle up to them.
This should buy you some time until they fall asleep again. If one happens to be on a human when this occurs, this cat wins the round of King of the Hill.

c) Tag: This game requires two or more cats and may include a dog. One cat is It.
The other(s) chase him around the house until they catch up.
Then follows the Scrimmage, after which the cat who caught the other becomes It and is chased around. Great fun but has the greatest potential for loss of dignity from maneuvers such as the Non-Carpeted Floor Skid and the Throw Rug Wipeout.
Whenever such a situation occurs, all felines must immediately wash themselves.
Dogs are generally too stupid to do this and may continue to play. In this case, the dog automatically becomes It and should be subjected to the Pileup.

d) Tube Mouse: This is a game played in the bathroom.
Next to the Big White Drinking Bowl is a roll of soft white paper which is artfully attached to the wall so that it can spin. Inside this roll is the Tube Mouse.
When you grab the paper, the Tube Mouse will spin frantically as it tries to escape from you. When the Mouse is exposed, it dies of fright and stops spinning.

4.2 TOYS: Any small item. If a human tries to confiscate it, this means it is a Valuable Toy. Run with it under the bed. Look outraged when the human takes it away.
Watch where it is put so you can steal it later. Two reliable sources of toys are dresser tops and wastebaskets. Below are listed several types of cat toys.

a) Bright shiny things like keys, brooches or coins should be hidden so the other cat(s) and humans can't play with them. They are generally good for playing hockey with on uncarpeted floors.

b) Dangling and/or string-like things such as shoelaces, cords, gold chains and dental floss also make excellent toys.
They are favorites of humans who like to drag them across the floor for us to pounce on. When a string is dragged under a newspaper or throw rug, it magically becomes the Paper/Rug Mouse and should be killed at, all costs.
Note that playing with shoelaces when the human is trying to tie them is a great source of Hampering.

c) Within paper bags dwell the Bag Mice.
They are small and the same color as the bag, so they are hard to see, but you can easily hear the crinkling noises they make as they scurry around the bag.
Anything, including shredding the bag, can be done to kill them.
Note: any cat you find in a bag hunting for Bag Mice is fair game for a Sneak Attack, which will usually result in a great Tag match.

FOOD: Eating, however, is only half the fun.
The other half is getting the food.
Cats have two ways to obtain food: convincing a human you are starving to death and must be fed "NOW" and hunting for it oneself. The following are guidelines for getting fed.

a) When the humans are eating, make sure you leave the tip of your tail in their dishes when they are not looking.

b) The best times to inform humans of your dish's emptiness are when they are unable to ignore you, such as when they are sleeping or on the toilet.

c) Should you catch something of your own outside, it is only polite to attempt to get to know it. Be insistent - your food will usually not be so polite and try to leave.

SCRATCHING POSTS: It is advised that cats use anything which is most useful to you. They are very protective of what they think is their property and will object strongly if they catch you sharpening your claws on it. Sharpening your claws on a human is a definite no-no!

WATER: Dripping taps are the best sources of fresh water.
Toilets are the next best.
It is imperative that any sound of running water be investigated immediately for a possible drink. A plaintive meow and licking the faucet usually will get most humans to turn on the tap.

VACUUM CLEANER: This appalling Beast is known by many names, "Cat Eater" being the most prevalent. Humans will turn into raging monsters while under its influence, sucking up all the carefully shed cat hair and terrorizing the feline residents with evil glee.
All you can do is run and hide.

Occasionally, the humans are forced to open the vacuum cleaner and remove a swollen bag from within. This is its stomach, and must be destroyed at all costs.
Do not worry if the human yells at you, for the yell is really that of the Beast in pain.

SLEEPING HUMANS: It is known that sleeping humans are boring. The "direct approach" is nearly always successful in rejuvenating a dormant human.
Do one of the following:

Trample, purr, meow or head-butt. If the human is being stubborn, you may have to resort to more drastic tactics, such as ripping down posters, rattling blinds, or singing at the top of your voice. Eventually the human will get up and do what you want, usually in a disgruntle manner.

MORNINGS: In order to provide for you, the humans must leave the domain every morning (usually before you take your first cat nap).
To help them on their way, howl loudly, massage their scalps with your claws, or gently bounce on top of them in bed.
See GAMES. The best time to do this is about 24 minutes before their alarm clock goes off. We must protect them from that blaring noise for it could ruin their hearing.

MEDICINE: The vet is where your human takes you when you are sick.
The place smells funny; there are cats, dogs and awful things like needles and pills.
Don't let humans cat-handle you. The following are some tips for dealing with vets and medicine.

a) When you see the carrier come out, run and hide.
Once the human grabs you, struggle gamely. Splay your legs out so it is difficult to cram you into the carrier. If the human is trying to put you in with another pet, allow the other pet to bolt out the door.
In the car, meow plaintively all the way to the vet's.
Reach through the bars of the carrier and claw the human as s/he drives.
At the vet's, once again splay your legs and brace yourself against the carrier's walls so they can't dump you out easily.

b) At home, resist attempts to feed you pills or liquid medicine.
As soon as you hear the pill bottle rattle, hide.
Resist attempts to open your mouth. Squirming is good.
Shake your head vigorously to remove any medicine placed in your mouth.
Refuse any food that smells like it may have had medicine sprinkled in it.

ILLNESS: If you have to throw up, get to a chair quickly.
If you cannot manage in time, get to an Oriental rug.
If there is no Oriental rug, shag is good. When throwing up on the carpet, make sure you back up so it is longer then a human's bare foot.

CONCLUSION: Humans need to know basic rules. They can be taught if you start early and are consistent. You will then have a smooth running household.

Does Your Cat Own You?

Does Your Cat Own You?
--------------------------
Do you select your friends based on how well your cats like them?
Does your desire to collect cats intensify during times of stress?
Do you buy more than 50 pounds of cat litter a month?
Do you scoop out the litter box after each use?
Do you wait at the box with the scoop in your hand?
Do you think it's cute when your cat swings on the drapes or licks the butter?
Do you admit to non-cat owners how many cats you really have?
Do you sleep in the same position all night because it annoys your cats when you move?
Do you kiss your cat on the lips?
Do you feed your cat tidbits from the table with your fork?
Does your cat sit at the table (or ON the table) when you eat?
Does your cat sleep on your head? Do you like it?
Do you have more than four opened but rejected cans of cat food in the refrigerator?
Do you watch bad TV because the cat is sleeping on the remote?
Did you buy a video tape of fish swimming in an aquarium to entertain your cat?
Will you stand at the open door indefinitely in the freezing rain while your cat sniffs the door, deciding whether to go out or come in?
Would you rather spend a night at home with your cat than go out on a bad date?
Do you give your cat presents and a stocking at Christmas?
Do you spend more for your cat than you do for your spouse?
Do the Christmas cards you send out feature your cat sitting on Santa's lap? Does your cat sign the card?
Do you put off making the bed until the cat gets up?
Does your cat eat out of cut crystal stemware because you both watched the same commercial on television?
Do you microwave your cat's food? Prepare it from scratch?
Do you climb out of bed over the headboard or footboard, so you won't disturb the sleeping cat?
At the store, do you pick up the cat food and kitty litter before you pick out anything for yourself?
Do you cook a special turkey for your cat on holidays?
Does your cat "insist" on a fancy Sunday breakfast consisting of an omelet made from eggs, milk, and salmon, halibut, or trout?
Do you have pictures of your cat in your wallet?
Do you bring them out when your friends share pictures of their children?
(Pollsters claim that 40 percent of cat owners carry their pet's pictures in their wallets, by the way.)
When people call to talk to you on the phone, do you insist that they say a few words to your cat as well?
Do you accept dates only with those who have a cat?
If so, do you eventually double-date with the cats to see how they get along?
When someone new comes to your house, do you introduce your cat, by name, to them?

Cat Colors FAQ: Common Colors

http://www.fanciers.com/other-faqs/colors.html

since I can't really post the whole article I have provided the link.

to read more please use the link.

----
A. COMMON CAT COLORS
This section is primarily intended to answer the question, "What color is my cat?" It also explains basic color terminology and gives some information about how the colors and patterns work together. There are many colors and patterns that are genetically possible in the cat, so this section only covers the colors that you are most likely to see. There are additional color mutations that are seen only in certain breeds; these colors are covered in the color genetics section.

Note: Cat fanciers use the term "red" for the color that is commonly called "orange," "marmalade," or "ginger". We also use the term "blue" for the color that is commonly called "gray" or "maltese."
1. Tabbies
If your cat has stripes, it is a "tabby." (Some people call these "tiger cats.") All tabbies have thin pencil lines on the face, expressive markings around the eyes, and a tabby "M" on the forehead. If you look up close at the light parts of a tabby's coat, you will see that the individual hairs are striped with alternating light and dark bands, like the fur of a rabbit or a squirrel. This banding is called "agouti." Tabby is thought to be the "wild type" (the original color) of domesticated cats.

There are four different tabby patterns:

* A "mackerel tabby" has narrow stripes that run in parallel down its sides. This is what some people refer to as a "tiger."
* A "classic tabby" cat has bold, swirling patterns on its sides like marble cake. This color is called "blotched tabby" in the UK.
* A "spotted tabby" has spots all over its sides. Sometimes these are large spots, sometimes small spots, and sometimes they appear to be broken mackerel stripes.
* A "ticked tabby" (sometimes called "Abyssinian tabby" or "agouti tabby") does not have stripes or spots on its body. However, like all tabbies, it has tabby markings on the face and agouti hairs on the body. This is the color of the Abyssinian cat, but it also appears in non-purebreds and does not mean the cat is Abyssinian.

Tabbies come in many different colors. You can tell what color a tabby is by looking at the color of its stripes and its tail tip. The color of the agouti hairs (the "ground color") may vary tremendously from cat to cat, some cats may have a washed out gray ground color and others will have rich orange tones.

* A "brown tabby" has black stripes on a brownish or grayish ground color. The black stripes may be coal black, or a little bit brownish.
* A "blue tabby" has gray stripes on a grayish or buff ground color. The gray stripes may be a dark slate gray, or a lighter blue-gray.
* A "red tabby" has orange stripes on a cream ground color. The orange stripes may be dark reddish orange, or light "marmalade" orange.
* A "cream tabby" has cream stripes on a pale cream ground color. These stripes look sand-colored or peach-colored rather than orange.
* A "silver tabby" has black stripes on a white ground color. The roots of the hairs are white. You can also have a blue silver, cream silver, or red silver tabby (red silver is also known as "cameo tabby") depending on the color of the stripes. In all cases, silver tabbies have a pale ground color and white roots. To make sure, part the hairs and look at the roots.

Dear Dogs and Cats- a little funny thang;-}

Dear Dogs and Cats,
The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food.
The other dishes are mine and contain my food.
Please note that placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not mean it becomes your food and dish, nor do I find that esthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway and/or hallway is not a racetrack.
Beating me to the bottom is not the object.
Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king-sized bed.
I am very sorry about this.
Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch forever to ensure your comfort.
Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep.
It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible.
I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm and disrespect.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom.
If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or stick your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open.
I must exit through the same door I entered.

I have been using the bathroom for years --canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.
The proper order is: Kiss me, then go smell the other end of the dog or cat, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. I cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:
Rules for Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and Always Complain About the Pets:
1. They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. (That's why they call it "fur"niture).
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours, and does not speak clearly.

Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they: eat less, don't ask for money all the time, usually come when called, never drive your car, don't hang out with drug-users, don't smoke or drink, don't wear your clothes, don't have to wear the latest fashions, don't need a gazillion dollars for college, and if they get pregnant, you can sell their children!

BIG CHANGE to this group-Some suggestions?it's time:-]

Hi everyone,
well this was a fun experiement but I think I"m going to see if I can change this group to something else.
it's easier then trying to remove it, tribe doesn't make it easy to do this but I think this group won't be going really anywhere because it's so specific in theme.

now there are a lot of animal groups and cat groups here, so I don't know if I should try to make this some kind of animal or cat (general) group or I"m thinking of changing the theme all together.

one idea I have is something having to do with Divination, ..Tarot, Oracle cards, Runes, Scrying, etc...a place where people can discuss these topics, share their favorite divination tools, put up pictures of their fav. decks and so on.......I think it would be fun to make it broader then just Tarot but I know there are others who like me are also collectors who also love to collect tarot decks and similar decks (some are not necessarily tarot) because of the art work as well and it may be fun to be able to share this in a forum.

I"m trying to think of other ideas to change the group too.

I know that some of you may not want to stay on the group if it's changed. That's ok because I know not all topics are going to be of interest to everyone but if you want to throw out some suggestions I would love to hear them.

I won't change it today or anything so may be some of you who may want to stay can give me some ideas.

I think I will wait till sometime next week to think on this so there is time to post.

also if you have pictures up you don't want to still be there if the group changes please don't feel you have to keep them there, they are yours and so if you want to remove them of course you can.

I have a kitchen witchen group already.....so not sure I need another pagan themed one but if there are any ideas for that please feel free to post.

or other too........

ok well we only have 5 people here so I know it's not a huge crowd but this way there is time before I change it to chime in.

hope everyone is well and the kitties are too!

tiny tidbits: cats

The cats--domestic and wild--have intrigued humans for thousands of years, and throughout that time the relationship of these animals with humans has varied widely.
People have valued cats as hunters, worshiped them as gods, and sacrificed them as demons.

However, the animals have survived and are still fascinating.
They have often been used as symbols of beauty, grace, mystery, and power, and they have been favorite subjects for many artists and writers.

Today, the domestic cat (house cat) is second only to the dog in popularity as a house pet.
No one knows exactly how many domestic cats there are in the United States, but researchers estimate that more than 30 million are owned as pets.

There is no way to estimate the numbers of homeless cats that roam about freely as feral animals (those that had been tame but have returned to living in a wild state).
There probably are many millions of such cats wandering about in the streets and alleys of cities and towns across the country.

introduction to da boyz

there's Buddy, Digger and Buster. Buster is camera shy because he's smart and he knows that nasty shiny thing is gonna make a big light that bugs his eyes so he looks away. He's 7 1/2 and half-brother to Buddy who is 9. They were rescued from an unwanted litter. Digger is only 2 and was rescued from the petsmart store and he was very very upset with the whole world. It took many months to tame him and still if he thinks you're going to pick him up--boom, right under the bed. They all are very personable characters which you will find out as the weeks go by.

Really cool idea for a tribe, eh? Yo <><

cats and their unusual noises

Hi,
hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving.

Question ...though this isn't specific to ginger cats I think it's safe to say being such a small group and it being such a specific tribe and all we can certainly also post things about cats in general and stir the kitty litter up a bit, so to speak;-}

anyway.......Momiji does this noise that I have never heard before from my furkids before him so I'm wondering since some of you have multiple cats and I only ever have had one at a time if you know what this is.

when he's at rest..not necessarily deep sleep but you know kitty napping. you have to be close to him, like resting your head near him so you can hear but he does these little sort of grunts (it's hard to describe), just little short ones and sometimes like they are a bit more pronounced...
then if I mimic him there is this sort of relay thing that goes on ...it's funny.....he does make me laugh a lot with some of the stuff he does.

now his first 5 months from birth till I took him home he was a 24-7 outside kitty with lots of other cats and kittens as well...he wasn't totally ferral but he didn't really have any full contact with anyone till I came along only because the woman who took care of the cats (she would feed them and try to social them so that she could find homes or people would come by and take one. she also took in dogs and even had a couple of pot belly pigs (on long island no less (nyc)).

I"m wondering if this was some sort of thing they may do when all sleeping together or what not, a sort of communication but having never heard this before (only some sleep talking from max but then he would be in deep sleep and it wasn't the same sound or type of thing) I wanted to find out if anyone else has any cats that do this as well.

Cat Poetry-The Naming of Cats

     The Naming of Cats
************************************
The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, or George or Bill Bailey -
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter -
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum -
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover -
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

T S Elliot

stray ginger cat

my boyfriend and I were taking a walk around my nieghborhood and a ginger kitty came up to us and then ran out in the street, dodged a couple of cars and came right back to us, I was so worried she'd get hit by a car! She followed us for a few more blocks and left off, I went to the nieghbors's house the next day and I asked Anderea if that was her cat, she said no :(, she's a stray kitty but the nieghbors leave food out for the stray kitties, how sad! I have 3 cats, scruffy, petey and freya. Freya lives at my brother's house because my apartment is too small for three cats and my brother takes good care of his cats, Freya gets along better at his house anyway, she's a calico cat.
