Hello all... I have a friend with a cat that has rear end problems. I don't mean butt, I mean tail and back end are really itchy and have a few scabs on them. Any thoughts as to what could be causing this? There are no fleas on her... I'm at a loss...
I'm also searching for a cat-webmd if anyone knows of something like that... I sure would appreciate it!

Re: Neighbor's cat with back end issues
Sat, March 10, 2007 - 11:07 AMsounds like either a severe allergy or possibly mange or ringworm... if it is mange be careful - it might be sarcoptic which can be picked up by humans and that's not a good thing...
i think a trip to the vet is necessary...

Re: Neighbor's cat with back end issues
Sat, March 10, 2007 - 4:07 PMI agree that a vet visit is indicated. I don't know of a vet on the internet, at least not a "cat" vet. Check for dog vets, and I think there are a couple.
First of all, trim the hair off the cat, clean the area with warm salted water and see what's going on, on the skin. You can wipe some antibiotic ointment on it to promote healing, but the vet will probably give you some steroid cream to promote healing. This is only if there is no bacterial, fungal or parasitic infection, of course. Treat the cause and the cat will be fine.

this one is helpful. mange does sound right to me, but only the vet can look at it and know for sure.
