How many of you spend a small fortune on all the latest cat toys? And how many of your feline friends actually enjoy them? I've been thinking that they are a bit like children... go out and buy the fancy-schmancy expensive gadget only to turn around to find the kid happily engaged in banging on your kitchen pots with a wooden spoon.
Just this week, I discovered that I had dropped a little peppermint patty. I keep finding it all over the house. Apparently, my boy, Casey, thinks its the greatest thing since canned tuna! Heehee! My other cat, Bandito, just gets ecstatic when he's attacking my pens - especially when I'm actually trying to write with it. And. of course, all of them think the most perfect spot for a nap is right on top of my text books!
What other things do you cats like that aren't officially made for cats? Or are my cats just weird?

i agree with you for the most part that cats prefer toys that were not intended for cats. that's not to say my cat Abbey does not enjoy the more expensive toys and cat condos i buy for her, but there are certain objects that she really goes wild for.
the main one is wrapping tissue paper, like the kind you use to wrap gifts up with. i lay several sheets out and she loves to lay and roll over on them , and when she's esp. frisky, she will dive under them and attack them. i'm thinking she likes the crunchy sounds it makes. my cat also likes drinking straws, i think because the are light weight and i noticed she has a preferrence for lighter/smaller objects and toys to play with. she likes to bat the straws around and chew on them.
that's really cute your cat enjoys the little peppemint patty. my cat seems to be drawn to mint scented things. i would never let her eat any mints of course, but if i'm chewing mint gum, she's drawn to the scent, and will start licking my face, esp. by my mouth. it's kinda funny. i wonder if your cat is the same way - drawn to peppermint scents?
no, i don't think your cats are weird, i just think it's how cats are. it's in their nature, they are adamant about what they like, and what they don't like, no matter what 'it' is ;)
