2009 Eugene Witches Ball

I am extremely pleased to announce the 2009 Eugene Samhain Witches Ball and the launch of our new website:

This year's ball features a vampiric theme, complete with a puppet show for the younger set, costume contest (for children and adults alike), silent auction, dance performance by the luminous Seraphina, Spiral Dance, and a ritual led by Indigo Paradox. We will wrap up the night dancing to the darkwave stylings of DJDecker.

Please join us for this turn of the wheel as we honor our ancestors and celebrate Samhain as a community.

When: October 31, 2009, 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Where: Cozmic Pizza, 199 W 8th Ave Eugene, Oregon
Cost: $7 to $10 sliding scale
Save up to $2 by donating cans of food to FOOD for Lane County.

Additionally, the Willamette Earth Based Spirituality Meetup is hosting a HobNob this Friday night to encourage community networking. This event will include a silent auction to help raise funds for this year's Witches Ball.

Eugene Merry Meet Upcoming event & new Egroup

You can subscribe there and we welcome anyone to participate in our networking efforts.

This upcoming Merry Meet Network event in April is about learning Chants by Rozaylia. She doesn't cover the songs and chants we may have been accustomed to. Rozaylia is a new member in our community and has a background with many organizations.

Please welcome her this 4th Wednesday of April from 7 to 9pm at the McNeil Riley house:

Merry Meet is not a club, circle, or Coven- just a place to meet others for networking, friendship, and support.
It is open to all pagans: Wiccans, Witches, Druids, Solitaries, and group/coven members. All ages welcome.
All you need to bring is yourself and an open mind. Each month we have topic for discussion which is sometimes lead by a member and may include a demonstration. This offers an opportunity to share what you know
and learn something new. This is also a great way to introduce yourself and get to know others.
McNail-Riley House as viewed from 13th Avenue
The gatherings are held at the McNail-Riley House
(a cozy historic house) every fourth Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
There is a full kitchen, bathroom, small dining room, and good sized main area. Parking for the McNail-Riley house
is across 13th Avenue in the Fair Grounds parking lot.
The McNail-Riley house does have wheel chair access,
as well as, one Handicap parking space next to the building.
There is also a bike rack next to the door for those
that need to lock up thier bikes.

Gathering's general etiquette: This is an on-going event. There are bound to be old friends and newcomers alike at every meeting. Diversity is the norm. Please be respectful and use common sense. If you wish to network or socialize with someone outside the gatherings, (we hope you do!) make sure it is welcomed first. This is a meeting place but there is no obligation to become friends or hang out with someone you do not feel comfortable with.

Witches Ball Planning (Eugene)

Write up is due tomorrow I was notified about this on Friday.
We decided to not go with the band we hired because they were too mellow jazzy so right now we need a band. Upbeat, World Fusion, and Cheap preferably in the state of Oregon near by and willing to perform during our ritual.

We have costume prize needs
Decoration workparties begin next Saturday.

We also need ritual volunteers.

(Wow hall November 1st from about Noon (Set up) until 1 am (Close) Doors open 7pm childrens activities happen until 8pm then we award the prizes for our contests. Child area will be cleaned up before 9pm and ritual begins, Then we party and dance. The theme this year is the Day of the Dead however we are also using decor ideas from The toltecs, mayans and Jungle. (Thats kind of an update) Hope to see you there and see you involved! I think the fee will be 10 dollars at the door. Children free under the age of 13.

Eugene Merry Meet (Witches ball Planning Meeting June 25th)

This wednesday is the first planning meeting for the ball.

If you are volunteering this year please come.

Topics we will cover:
Childcare, Costume Contest, Games, Dancing, Music, Ritual, Community Networking, Webpage & Fliers, Publicity.

Date of the ball is the First Saturday of November. (Confirmed)

We discussed having Dennis St Germains group Ritmo Del La Noche perform. (More details coming soon)

We will meet at the Merry Meet groups space it has plenty of parking at the fairgrounds

Eugene Merry Meet, May 28th "Celebratory and transition Drum Circle"

Blessings Everyone,

This months Merry Meet gathering will have a theme which is "Celebrating each other and Transitioning." The vision for this eventis for the community to gather, drum and play music together, bring potluck items and be a dancing community. In the spirit of transitioning for many of us, I hope we can celebrate each other in this unique dance, feast and musical opportunity.

The feasting buffet space will be in the antique dining room of the McNeil Riley house. The two larger rooms of the building will be decorated in celebratory theme honoring you.

Jim Stephens formerly a coordinator for the Full Moon Drum Circles that happened in Eugene's past and also a coordinator for the Spiritual Growth Center of Eugenes Drum Circle will be providing ambiance, and musical instruments for this event.

What to bring:
Dress up, wear a costume, dancing shoes, dancing clothes.
Your beautiful self, a partner or a friend
A buffet item of your choice
An Instrument or a few to share

Eugene Witches Ball 2008 - Early Planning

Greetings,

The planning for Witches Ball is started early this year. We are looking into getting Kanal to perform. More details posted soon. Also, Samhain falls on a Monday this year. I took the liberty of reserving the Ball on the 29th. (Saturday) I will also ask guerilla tribal to perform at the event too and theme around the events theme and holiday. Dennis is willing to make the flier and update the webpage this year. We've been paying him 15 USD for several years to pay for the domain at www.eugenewitchesball.com

The theme is "Day of the Dead" There will be educational and informative props about this holiday throughout the venue.

I've asked Hecate Nuit Coven to help with the event as well.

The band Alosphodel from Portland is another option for live music as well as DJ Layla too. Sharon is doing the coordinating for the music side of things for the venue.

Plans for Next Years ball in the Works

Samhain is on a Friday in 2008 I am hoping we actually pull this event off on the 1st.

Tentative Theme: Day of the Dead

Wed like to fundraise to get Kanal to perform. Sharon is looking into it further.

Two events maybe more before Samhain.

1. February Event - Imbolg/Candlemass
2. Vernal Equinox Event - Some themed event hopefully at Cozmic Pizza (Looking into this)
3. Various Yardsales, Recycling Drives. La La.

Its said to get such a band to perform can be as little as 500 USD and as expensive as 6000. I really dont know.

All in all, this is the the first ever Day of the Dead and to not disrespect the traditionalists we'd like to make it educational.

merry meeting in 2007

Time is running short for planning this year's Ball so I have suggested we meet Monday September 10 at 6:30 pm at Cosmic Pizza.

This is the first meeting, nothing will be set in stone except, perhaps the date of the ball. I'm not wanting to step on any toes but am anxious that nothing hasyet begun at this late date. I hope all who are interested can attend. If not, there will be more meetings.

Eugene Witches Ball Update

Set up for decorations is at 11am We wont be able to set up the auditorium until 1pm someone else is using it.

They are celebrating their 20th anniversary and will be having members of their bands past come and perform with them as well as have images projected on a screen during their evening set.

Stone Soup (Children's Idea) Stage Drama

I suggested on Sunday with M. From SpiralScouts the idea of doing the play Stone Soup. ( not me ) But Ideally if we ever did an interactive play that the majority of children already know its Stone Soup. The props are easy enough to make (paper sacks and/or fabric scraps) can make the villagers clothing.

Plastic Veggies are easy to be found. I have a few. A huge cauldron is easy to be found as well.

This interactive can also be all ages :)
