I just wanted to pass on some info about the Pipes in the Valley Celtic Festival in Hartford, CT! It is Saturday, September 26th from 11am to 10pm. I will be working at CTRF that day but am planning on going to the Fest afterward. So.. I thought this would be a good excuse to invite everyone down! Come to the Faire, do some dancing, drumming, shopping, just being gypsies, then head over to nearby Hartford for the Fest that night! I know most of you aren't local and/or are quite busy otherwise, but I just wanted to extend the invitation to you all. Let me know if anyone thinks they may be able to make it. I'd love to see you!

Oh! And I forgot to mention... Gaelic Storm and the Wicked TInkers will be there so... let's go! :)

Lets open the flood gates of thought and see what we can come up with to celebrate this momentous occasion.

So the Days I am not available for sure this year are as follows

March 12-18 -> Kung Fu training in Florida (mmmmm... Beaches....)
June 10-15 -> Exercise Coach training in Boston (Yay studying, my favorite)
Sept. 12-18 -> Wildfire Fire performance retreat somewhere (Fire it up, Fire it up...)

Other then that I am totally free. I am planning on making it to the MD fair this time so maybe we can work out a big get-together there?
It works on a "SELF EMPLOYMENT" bases for those who want to gain from this so there are no paid positions at this time
but maybe down the road there will be, it all depends on what you want.
It will be set up as a Multi Cultural Medieval world. We are planning on Viking encampments ( The Vikings of the Valley have committed to this )
maybe a Norman and Saxon camp or later period .Persian, English, Irish ect. Basically whom ever wants to set up an Area.
Take also into consideration on first come first serve. This means since we have a VIKING encampment we will not have another. Choose your timeline
and let me know, and I will let you know if that conflicts with another timeline or Culture. If you want that culture or timeline then you must camp Next to the same timeline or culture
and your jurisdiction will fall under whom ever was there first.
Allotments will be as follows. When we get out base groups ready, we will go to Foamhenge ( This is a very large area but I don't have details on exactly how big, Lets just say
3 football fields wide and 10 to 12 long. with a full sized replica of Stonehenge on the high hill at the center. This is just the cleared areas,Im not sure of the wooded areas
surrounding the area.
Each group will get an allotment. They will be required to maintain it and Build on it. semi permanent or permanent structures only which means canvass and wood or both.
The groups will than have the rights to the following.
1. At events merchant " Period Only " crafts or stuff from their area for free.
2. Attend all Events at foamhenge for free.
3. Hold any event for themselves ( as long as no conflicts with others ) for free.
4. Hopefully ( not sure yet ) get discounts on the other natural bridge things.
5. Be part of the magic.
This project will hopefully be fun and what re-enactor does not want this type of a chance to do something like this ? I know im Hyped about it.
As for interaction with you fellow People?
THIS IS NOT AN ACTING JOB. It is a Living History Project. Yes you can do your own skits within your areas and yes for demonstrations in demo areas.
But this is not going to be "RENNY" nor " SCAdian"only game . just think Trade route and how it would be back then.
Royalty?
There will be NO KINGS AND QUEENS. Each Group may have at Highest Rank a Baron or likewise. Knights will be determined by each area.
At each event the hosting group will be in charge of the Main areas ( Areas outside the other encampments ) and run the show. Any Questions about
Official things on the site will fall to the SITE DUKE. This will be an Official from Natural Bridge.
We Hope this will be open from April to October for the general public and all year round for the use of our Participants.
( THE SUCCESS OR FAILURE OF THIS DEPENDS ON US, IF IT IS SOMETHING YOU AND YOUR GROUP ARE INTERESTED IN THEN WE EXPECT FULL
HEARTED COOPERATION )

So this is the next step. Write me back on your Interest yes or no. Send me how many People in your group are committed and what your plans would be for your area.
This would include.
Time line
Artisans
Demos Names of your Officials
As much Information as you think we might need To much info is not enough info.
I think this will cover the basics for now.
Thank you again and I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi everyone! Hope you're all doing well.

The month of October brings new things for the NE Celtic Gypsies. We are now entering the realm of movie-making, with an upcoming appearance on the silver screen.

Nichole and myself have been cast to dance in a full-feature production by Indy filmmaker John Hartman, our scenes to be shot throughout the month of October.
We are very excited about this project, and not only does it combine our love for dance with film, but as a period piece, we'll be satisfying our historical thirst as well. All my favorite things. ;0)

I have been recruited as choreographer as well as performer, in charge of the dance aspect of the film. I'm also thrilled about being hired on the costuming department as well, with my knowledge of historical (12th century) costuming...my other love besides dance and filmmaking!

Needless to say, we will be very busy from now through the next few weeks. We may hold off on the workshops until November, because filming schedules are nuts, and we have to be available.

I'll keep you all posted (what I can) on the film's release dates, etc. when it gets closer to that time.

Speaking of busy-ness... Nikki and myself are also involved in various other arts projects outside of the troupe, including co-producing a comedy show with the local arts community here, and the like. As well as our own dance careers on the side. (I also will be working with Wolf Shadow Theatrical Productions as main choreographer, on an upcoming period Renaissance theatrical, that I'm excited about). Lots of fun stuff!

While our faire performance schedules have been slow for us in New England, our careers have taken us into many new rewarding venues, and we're thrilled about it all.

Just thought I'd share (we're very excited about all this, can't ya tell? ;0) and I don't want people thinking we just dropped off the edge of the earth!

Hi all,
I know I mentioned this to some of you...not knowing when our next gypsy-gathering can be, I know we were *hoping* for those of us up north (and Meg and Brynn- I mentioned it to you too) to get together at this event....
Anyway,
Here's the info on the sca website, or you can go to www.birka.org

Friday, January 26th, 2007 to Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Hosted by Barony of Stonemarche - Manchester, NH

The Barony of Stonemarche invites you to the XVIII annual Market Day at Birka. It will be held this year on January 26-27, 2007 at the Center of New Hampshire in Manchester, NH.

With last year's great success on Friday night, we will again open the Gates that evening from 7 – 10pm for check in. There will be shopping and a Pre-Revel then in addition to our usual Saturday schedule of events. Merchants, in the Exposition Center side, are offered the opportunity to open for business. Merchants, Friday is not required. Detailed information for merchants regarding this will be available on the web site (<http://www.birka.org/merchant.php >).
An evening pre-revel, in garb, will take place in the set of rooms next to the Exposition Center. The hotel will be providing a cash bar for the pre-revel. This will be a fun, informal way to start off the event. Come; make of it what you will! Make music, dance and play games, have fun. This will run from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM on Friday.
On Saturday we will have our usual slate of activities. There will be indoor fighting, fencing, and youth combat tournaments, in the same fashion as the previous years.
Merchants, of course, are an important part of our event and we welcome you. You must pre-reserve to merchant. All information will be published on our Website: <http://www.birka.org > and via e-mail. If you wish to be considered, please visit the site and sign up for the email list available there (<http://www.birka.org/merchant/email-signup.pmp > ). An announcement will be posted there when the information on the web site is updated. If you have no Internet access special arrangements can be made with the merchant autocrat by contacting him: Baron Bilgisayar or you may email him at Baron_Bil@yahoo.com, 603-724-7102. Please call only between 7pm-10pm M-F, 1PM-10pm Sat-Sun. Calls outside these hours will not be returned. Also please wait until after Nov. 1 to call.
Other activates will include a medieval fashion show, children's activates, Bardic entertainment on an ad-hoc basis, Nordic themed A&S display/workshop and an Evening Ball. Late in the afternoon, court, both Baronial and Royal are slated to occur.
Feel free to contact the autocrat, Lady Tat'iana Daniliova, at tatiannadani@yahoo.com
In addition to the above listed activities we have a number of meetings and classes that will be taking place.
The site is offering a reduced room rate for event attendees. Reservations must be made with the hotel prior to 1/6/07. Contact the Radission directly at 603-625-1000 and mention the Society for Creative Anachronism/Birka to receive the reduced rate.
An event of this size requires a great deal of work, so any gentles interested in helping are encouraged to contact the autocrat in advance or refer to the event web site for additional information. We're in special need of volunteers to work gate and security. Thanks in advance for any offers for help.
Please note that there is no food included with the site fee. The hotel will be running several concessions stands on site and water will be available in several locations around the site, most notably in the ballroom where the Heavy list combat will take place. There is also one restaurant on site and a fair number within walking distance. Please plan accordingly.

Those interested in using public transportation will be pleased to learn that the site is less than one block North of the Manchester Transportation Center, 119 Canal Street, Manchester, NH, (800) 343-9999.

******
Anyway, just wondering if ya'll want to make a gypsy-gathering of it. I went the past few years, and had fun...and bought tons of stuff (bring lots of money as there are alot of merchants!) They also have a section for Middle Eastern Drumming/Dancing where you can make noise and just chill all day... ;0)
And the ball at night is fun to invade (though I'm not into the "historicaly-accurate nitpicking" alot of SCAers are, so we just go and invade the ballroom...and have fun with the medieval dances (though we end up making this huge knot on the dancefloor....and piss off some "diehards" LOL).
If you do go, I'd show up early on Saturday, 'cause it gets PACKED with hundreds of people, you'll be stuck in a very long line, and won't get any parking...(or will have one HELL of a walk from across Manchester...in the winter...Enough said.) Also, as it IS an SCA event, you are required to be in some form of garb (at least an attempt).

So I'll be going, let me know who can make it...room reservations should be in by Jan 6 (for a discounted rate), once I know who is interested, we can figure things out.
And why not make a weekend of it while we're all together? anyone have ideas for that Sunday as well?

Just thought I'd bring it up now so people have time to think about it. It's a fun medieval event to go to in the dead of winter when you are suffering from the lack of renn faires...*Sigh*

Miss you all!
ABOUT ISSAM HOUSHAN
The union of music and movement is the essence of dance. The union of a musician and a dancer to create a seamless artistic expression is the ultimate manifestation of such a union. Issam Houshan does exactly that. Call him the “Wassan Pharaoun,” “King of the Drum,” or “Mr. Magic Fingers” and you only tell the half of it. His connection to the dancer is the essence of his magic, a merging of egos serving a mutual and identical goal. Issam is now recognized as the ultimate master of this art. An international music star, his past credits include touring with Sting in 2000, performing at the Grammys on the hit single Desert Rose, as well as performing and recording with countless Arab stars. In addition, he has toured with the Mile Copeland-produced Bellydance Superstars, the world’s premiere professional touring bellydancer performance group since 2003, with whom he has appeared in over 1000 shows in 16 countries over the past three years.
A highly accomplished percussionist on assorted Arab hand drums, Issam was formally trained at the Damascus Academy of Music and is the only remaining disciple of the legendary Arab drum master Mahmood Salahadeen. An accomplished and sought-after music instructor, he taught at the Damascus Music Institute for nine years and continues to teach workshops and private lessons around the world. Unequaled in his field, Issam is known by fellow Syrian musicians as the Wassan Pharaoun (Pharaoh of Rhythm) and his al assaben al Sahriha (magic fingers) are currently insured for 10 million dollars (1 million each).
His drum solos with the Bellydance Superstars are major features of each show, as captured in the films American Bellydancer, Solos from Monte Carlo, Bellydance Superstars, 30 Days to Vegas, Behind the Shimmy, and the instructional DVD The Art of the Drum Solo. His CD releases include his own Wassan Pharaoun, The Dancing Drum and Tabel Ya Issam, as well as percussion on the Galactic Caravan albums. For more information, please check out Issam Houshan’s website: www.tablabyissam.com
Now evenly split in the US (lol), Kristen and Sara will practice (and hopefully perform) regularly up north in New England, while Meg and Brynn will man the Southern states. ;0) And as often as possible, perform all together of course!
This will allow more opportunity for all to perform, and should be easier practice-wise as well.
I'm still uploading the VA ones, but here's the link to the Milford Faire photos: http://www.celticgypsies.com/Milford2006.htm (give me five minutes to fix the link, though, hehe, as it does not work at the moment)
I have helped to coordinate and plan this ren. faire. I'm trying to spread the ren faire spirit hear in NH-and New England, and help out the club of my hometown (who I owe alot to- for the use of their stage, etc to teach dance. They are awesome!) ;0) And the faire's growing every year!
We will be having at least two half-hour shows on the mainstage, as well as a gypsy camp (rather small one) with random drumming and dancing throughout the day. We have a nice amount of vendors for a small faire (some are from the Greenfield MA faire!)
Anyone up for a MD Ren Faire invasion this season? Brynn and I, and hopefully Kristen as well, will be making just about every weekend, though we are trying to get together all of our nomadic gypsy friends together for at least one weekend of invasion from both the VA & VT Ren Faires, etc.
We're shooting for the Labor Day weekend (Sept. 2,3,4) since we know several of our pack is coming down that weekend anyway, plus there's an extra day at faire. Score.
It would be awesome to see everyone again, there's *plenty* of excellent music at MD (Wolgemut, Rogues, Pyrates Royale, etc.), and the Rogues being good friends of mine. :-)
