Dr. Christopher S. Hyatt 12 July 1943 ~ 09 February 2008

Leilah Publications, its affiliates & associates, friends, family & students, and the O.A.I. celebrate the life of Christopher S. Hyatt, Ph.D. who left this world and embarked on his journey to the "Undiscovered Country" on 9 February 2008.

Dr. Hyatt was Born July 12, 1943, in Chicago, IL to Leonard Miller and Bertha Freidman. At 17 he left High School, and joined the United States Navy. Later he obtained his GED during his military service, and upon separation from the navy, embarked upon his long and impressive academic journey. His academic career began at Los Angeles City College, where he studied accounting. He then obtained a BA degree from Cal State Los Angeles, an MA in Psychology from Cal State Los Angeles, an Advanced M.Ed from The University of Southern California, a Ph.D. in Psychology at Western University as well as another Ph.D. in human behavior from USIU. His specialty was in experimental and clinical psychology, and he practiced as a psychotherapist for many years and operated his own Freudian clinic in Southern California.

Dr. Hyatt was an accomplished, and sea worthy sailor, who once embarked upon a journey to sail around the world. He founded and led the 1st AIDS SAILATHON, which raised money for AIDS research by sailing from Long Beach, CA to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1993. He was best known as an accomplished writer; authoring over 70 books, including the very popular "Undoing Yourself" series, and in recent years had produced a series of instructional DVDs & audio CD lectures. His interest in the occult began in his early twenties. His desire to further pursue his studies in magick resulted in meeting Israel Regardie in the 1970s. Regardie introduced him to Reichian therapy, which he insisted Dr. Hyatt learn prior to any magickal pursuits. Regardie further instructed him in the magickal system of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.

Dr. Hyatt's tireless efforts to conserve the legacy of Dr. Francis Israel Regardie and the Golden Dawn teachings led to the establishment of extended Golden Dawn lineages. He was the chief executive officer of the not-for-profit Israel Regardie Foundation that carried on Dr. Regardie's Golden Dawn tradition. Frater Hyatt's research and writing on the "occult" and "magic" led to the formation of the O.A..I. & its continuance. Dr. Hyatt illuminated numerous souls with his Mercy & Severity.

I was introduced to Dr. Hyatt in 2005 through Soror Inanna of the O.A.I. for an academic presentation with the American Academy of Religion, at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. It was a few years earlier that another Soror had corresponded with leading figures in the Western Mystery Tradition for advice on the O.A.I., among them Kenneth Grant and our dear Dr. Hyatt.

I was also fortunate enough to interview him on Illuminati Coast to Coast, and witness his kindness, wisdom, and generosity firsthand. Years before my meeting with him at Arizona State, I studied his "Undoing Yourself" series and conducted the rigorous exercises prescribed in his books, CDs, and DVDs. After he kindly granted me an interview I corresponded with him on and off privately, continuing his exercises and regimen. His Mercy and Severity were pillars that guided myself and thousands of other "Toxick" souls to "descend, then transcend." It was a honor to have known him and worked with him. Dr. Hyatt's generosity, his kindness, wit, and Zen-like antics will never be forgotten by those who cared for him. We miss him immensely.
