Idaho Falls River Walk Art Festival

Idaho Falls River Walk Art Festival
July 25th and 26th
Along the Greenbelt in Idaho Falls
So on Saturday the 25th I will be bellydancing as a sort of half time performance during my friend David Devlin the magician's act this will be around 4pm on the stage and I'm pretty sure there is only one stage.
Then on Sunday the 26th from 1pm on into the afternoon the students of Habibi Belyydance studio owned by Yahaira will be doing a troupe performance and then individual solos.
Of course there will be lots of artwork, food, and other entertainment to enjoy as well so I hope to see you there!

New BD class in Idaho Falls!

My name is Bethany and I just moved to IF recently from the San Diego, Ca area and I have been asked to start my own bellydance class! So right now I have a beginner class Thursday nights at 8pm at Habibi bellydance studio. If I get enough students then I can start an advanced class. So it is $10 to drop in to one class or $32 for a month's session of four classes. So let your IF friends know they can get a piece of the bellydance pie!

Hi, I was wondering if a group going to Moab in September is actually being considered. It looks like the cost is $500 for everything...a little spendy... and registration is August 1st. Also, when is the Hyde Park thing? September 15?

It would be cool if we could have a place to access upcoming events and details, I don't know if this would be appropriate for the Chandni website or here, or maybe even a tribe.net for Suhanna (SP?) so that newbies could see what is going on, ask questions, etc.

workshops

I am really new at this and have high anxiety as a result. What is the best way to get something out of the workshops as a beginner? I tend to be so self-conscious and get caught up in comparing where I am at to everyone else. I am really dedicated to learning but Is there a way to take notes so I can take what I learn home to practice? Any ideas, short of taking a few valium would be helpful. Did anyone else experience this when they started? Thanks

Yard Dogs

For those interested, my contact at the Stephens Center told me that Vagabond Opera wasn't playing with the Yard Dogs here on May 7th, but they had 'a bunch of bellydancers' instead. Not sure what exactly that means, but I certainly know what it implies.
He also said that it's the 'pg-13' version of the show, as opposed to the 'R' rated version.

Just think ladies Saturday we get to host our first event! We all will do awesome! I just know it! We have worked hard! I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for the fun i've had. Since I've had the cafepress store up, I've had exactly one order that wasn't by me. If there are different designs that you guys would like to see, I'll be happy to work them up and add them. I just paid for the next three months and if I don't have any orders by the end of that time, I'm going to change it back into a free store, which means that I'll only be able to have 1 style per piece of clothing.

Mandatory practices!

Hey Chandni Chicas
Next Thrusday Dec. 20th we will have dance. We're doing some more coreography and hopefully Wanda will have info. about the swords. Anyhow, we will not have practice Thrus. Dec. 27th, due to the holiday season, but will resume the following week in January. Starting Thrusday, Jan 10th we will need everyone one to attend. It is mandatory, so we can all learn the coreography and look our best because we are all the host for the Tribes of March. We also need to have a commitment by Jan. 10 so we know whether to include you for the preformance in Feb. and Mar. We will also be disscusing info. about the Tribes of March and will need your participation. Please, this is so important to each member of the tribe to make it to practices, so I wish you all Happy Holidays if we do not see you till than! Namaste.

I was thinking of putting together a troupe section for the balancing choreography, but if ya'all can't make it, I'll just do solo and duet stuff. Now that I've had some recovery time, I just wanted to thank you, Chandni gals, for supporting the Oct-tribal Fest 2 workshop and performance. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your dances and I know that the community loved both of your dance pieces: there was a lot of raving in my ISU class ;)!! Sun Var was gorgeous and did an excellent job as a chorus for the sword piece. Hope you loved Moria; she was such a doll and wow, what great info! Love you gals!!!

first I'm sorry I fell off the face of the earth. to make a long story short, it's been a difficult year for me and it has not yet improved. in any case the French club at ISU would like dancers again, this time for the Taste of France. $20 per dancer plus food, and all tips will be pooled and split evenly. anyone interested?

Oct-Tribal Fest 2: Memento Mori with Moria Chappell -- OCTOBER 19th - 20th.........

Okay. Solidified dates and info for us....
Beginning the eve of October 19th with a theatre show and afterparty headlining Moria Chappell of the Tribal Contingent/BDSS.
Saturday, October 20th: 5 hours of workshops and vending, followed by an evening tea and "Tribal Throwdown."
Sunday (mayyyybeee): potential opportunity for drumming workshop (still in the works) brunch, and other things, we'll see.

Ken: you're the only film guy I'd ever ask to film this. I'm really hoping this date works for you!!
Chandni: please, please help spread the word! I've been in the middle of a job change and getting stuff ready for my ISU class, having a hard time staying connected with everyone. AND, please e-mail me if you are willing to host out-of-town attendants overnight at your house to keep their costs low.
LOOKING FOR: portable stage or info about one, a GOOD DJ, gold or white christmas lights (just to borrow), vendors or vending links, big old metal candlesticks (to borrow), and interesting friends/relatives willing to help with menial labor and set-up for the show.

Show theme is "Memento Mori"(latin for 'remember you are mortal/remember mortality/death'). It's close to Halloween and I'd like a little darkness and mystery thrown in. Decor is going to be black, gold, brass, silver, lots of metal. Send me your ideas or questions.

Check the updated events listing to see more info about this. "Ethereality" with Kami had to be postponed because I was worried about everyone's finances and the potential for a weather disaster. Keep in touch and come to the hafla on the 13th to get more info. Love to you all!!

My initial plan was to make the markup like $4 to discourage random passers-by, but there's not way for me to do that and then give you guys a discount to get around it. So I made the markup $1. That should build a small fund balance at cafeepress to pay for the cost of upgrading the store if we want to add other logos or images to the products we already have available.
Try as I might, I could not find spaghetti tanks in black on cafepress.

Troupe shirts

Greetings all,
Please take a moment to review the picture I recently posted to the group here:

There is a potential logo that I've worked up, and also 2 shirts that I'm thinking would be good. The red and black one is a cap sleeve tee, and I believe we can get different colors for the contrasting part on the shoulder. The other is a strap tank with a built-in shelf bra. It would be in black, they just didn't have a picture of it on the supplier's webpage. I've contacted a reliable local t-shirt printer for pricing, but haven't heard back yet. I thought I'd run the logo and the prospective choices by you guys first, before I got too deep in the process.
We'll be able to order additional shirts in the future as well (such as for vending at a future event).
So, comments?

hi ladies sorry I've fallen off the face of the earth, been swamped with school but I'm almost done!!! anyway the French club is hosting a recruiting party at the Bistro in Poky on the 2nd at 6, and I'd like 5 other dancers besides me so first 5 to respond... we'll be dancing for tips (pooled and split) and dinner, no formal payment so to speak. I'd like the offer to dance to stay in this group please. I know it sounds strange, French club, belly dancers? but the prof is really into North African/Middle Eastern stuff so I offered us up.

Meeting of the Tribes video

Greetings!
I was asked to comment on the technical quality of the Meeting of the Tribes video.
Overall, the quality of the video was poor. Clearly the video had been shot in a widescreen format, but was then mastered in normal 4:3 format, which gave all of the shots a 'squished horizontal' look. There was considerable pixelization and color depth issues. My experience would lead me to believe that the pixelization was caused by the video being edited on a non-professional level system, where the video was compressed enormously. Either that, or the person who did the editing was not fully trained on the system and did not know how to set the compression for optimal quality.
Aside from the technical issues, I found that the shots were quite static and uninteresting. Given the level of equipment that was clearly visible, I would have expected a wider variety of shots, and some more dynamic camera movement. I guess the lesson to be learned here is that just because you have a pile of fancy gear, that dosen't mean you are a professional videographer.
On the positive side, I thought that the portions of the audio that I listened to were very good, and the DVD was well authored.
For those that are considering purchasing a copy, I would encourage you to seek out the copy that has already been purchased by someone in the troupe (Kathleen, I think) and watch theirs before making that purchase.

I tell you what, ladies, the evil demons of circumstance are conspiring against me and my dancing lately! I was bound and determined to be able to dance wicha yesterday and ended up being called in to a client emergency until 8:30. The client's house was within a mile of DSDS, too, so I kept looking at my watch, thinking..."maybe...?" Bleah to working evenings! Sorry to have missed you. I'm still waiting on Janet's studio, as well, but had a few people comment that Friday wouldn't work for the monthly Master Class, so let me see about Thursday.
