Anyway, I love my new apartment her in Mebane and there's a good space for Yoga practice.
If anyone is interested in making the gallop over to Mebane I'd be happy to lead a session or just stretch together.
I'd say, there's room for 5 people. Let me know if you're interested. I'm off almost every Wednesday. Tuesdays and Thursdays are out.. I work and teach Yoga on those days. Possibly a Monday or Friday evening.. and occasionally a week-end. (Sundays are better for me)
n.; a group of people intentionally and collectively experiencing merriment

A mirth of players and performers is forming. The word forming is being used loosely; we’re not going on the road or anything(at least not yet). I want to help gather some people with the intent of exploring the boundaries of what we can do together-performance and creativity wise. You do not (repeat DO NOT) need to have an existing skill which falls into any of the following categories. Personally I have next to no experience in any of this stuff. A desire and willingness to learn, play, and strive is much more important than expertise.

Seeking people(or others) who want to explore dance(all kinds), martial arts, street theatre, butoh, gymnastics, contortion, drumming, yoga, kubuki, busking, stilt walking, sphere play, sound creation, break dancing, cabaret, acrobatics, and making costumes and all sorts of other stuff.

I don’t have a rigid idea or vision of what this will be. I am not the leader but I am the force acting as a catalyst to get this going. Maybe we can get together when we can, teach each other different forms, and see what happens.

I would like to incorporate capoeira, tai chi, fire staff, myth remembering, and swelling circus music into a 10 minute piece, call it an intro, and then set in on an Arabic flute based mesmerizing dance improve, berimbau beat backed, cartwheel freakout, followed by macabre mask adorned, kali striking, throat singing and chanting monkey circle parade in the dust finale. If this sort of thing sounds appealing please get in touch.

I am in Carrboro so it would be great to collaborate with people in the nearby vicinity but anyone who is interested is welcome to get in touch.

Hoop Convergence ~ Friday April 11 - Wednesday April 16, 2008

Please join us for the very first national (hopefully International!) Hooper’s Conference -- The Hoop Convergence.

The Hoop Convergence is the bringing together of a wide variety of hoopers from all over the world to create a synergistic learning environment where we will address all aspects of hooping. There will be panel discussions and workshops with a variety of amazing teachers and hoopers from all over the United States.

The Convergence will be held in beautiful the Hooper Haven of Carrboro, NC. Everything in this wonderful town is in walking distance and already many local hoopers are opening their homes or offering camping on their property to visiting hoopers from all over the country. Make plans to join us now.

To learn more, volunteer, make suggestions or arrange for a place to stay, please join the tribe Hoop Convergence at: http://tribes.tribe.net/hoopconvergence

Here are some of the amazing workshops and activities that are confirmed as of right now:

HOOP SKILLS WORKSHOPS
Currently, Spiral, Revolva, Caroleeena and Jewels are all confirmed to teach. These workshops will teach a variety of hooping techniques, including hand work, footwork, bodywork and dance, as well as hooping specialties, such as street performance and twin hooping. There will be workshops appropriate to all skill levels and other classes will be added to the curriculum as they are confirmed. Workshop details are forthcoming.

YOGA, INJURY PREVENTION & HEALING
We will host an injury prevention discussion panel made up of yogis, hoopers, massage therapists and other body/mind workers and healers. Hopefully we will be able to offer a HoopYoga workshop as well.

COSTUME DESIGN and THEATER MAKE-UP WORKSHOPS
In addition to learning costume design and theater make-up, the Convergence will also include a trade circle, a costume swap, sewing and non-sewing methods for making/decorating costumes, pattern shares, and a discussion where we will share ideas about themes, hoopable clothing and info for creating fire safe costumes . If you stay for the entire week, there will be excursions to some kick ass thrift stores too! (Then, after the Convergence, you can try out your new threads at Shakori Hills the following weekend!)

COMMUNITY, SERVICE PROJECTS and WORLD HOOP DAY
There will also be a discussion panel on community building, event planning, service projects and World Hoop Day. Hoopin' Annie O, creator of World Hoop Day, Jewels, who created Hoops for Haiti, and Caroleeena, who started the Henrietta Jensen Outreach and Education Project in Jamaica are all confirmed and will all be available to help you envision and manifest your world hoop day events or community outreach projects. (Hopefully Xta will be able to make it also!)

FIRE
On Saturday night, we will have a drum circle and fire ceremony with fire dancing. If you haven't fire hooped before, this could be your moment! There will also be discussions on Fire Philosophy & Ritual, Safety, Tool Repair, Craft and Professionalism. (There may also be a workshop highlighting a variety of different fire hoops and build techniques. We may not have time amidst everything else to build our own fire hoops, but maybe. If not, I'm sure you can order one from a local crafter to be customized for you and ready for your arrival to NC or to be shipped to you when you return home.)

JAM ~ DANCE PARTY
Sunday night, we will have a funky, dressy, jamming hoop hop set. There will also be a pre-party, house-party for dressing and making up!

OTHER THINGS we hope to include are:
Performances by and for each other
Publicity and Marketing
Business Management and Taxes for Professionals
Teaching Techniques
Hooping with kids
Sharing Poetry and Stories
Hoop Philosophy and Spirituality

Finally, if we can manage it, and if we have enough people at Shakori Hills, I think it would be fun to try to choreograph and premier the world’s largest choreographed hoop dance! I know they would let us do it there. We just have to see if we can make it happen!

We have lots of other ideas too – Circus hooping, Native American Hoop Dance, Rhythmic Gymanastics, Hoop Yoga, integrating specific types of dance into hooping, and more – but those things may have to wait until next year … unless you know someone willing and/or able to teach! If you have an idea for a workshop, please join the Hoop Convergence Tribe and share it with us! http://tribes.tribe.net/hoopconvergence

If you would like to teach or lead a discussion panel, please post that on the Hoop Convergence tribe too or feel free to PM a description to Jewels at hoopflow@gmail.com. We will accommodate what we can given space availability and group sizes. Teaching or leading a panel will enable you to attend other workshops for free. Depending on our turnout, you will hopefully also receive compensation for your efforts. (We are still working out the estimated costs for this event but we are working to keep them reasonable. Several teachers are volunteering altogether.)

Prices and other details will follow soon. New items are being added everyday!

If you can stay through the week, festivities, workshops, discussion panels and field trips will be offered Friday through Wednesday. Then, on Thursday, we'll head over to Silk Hope for a great, family-friendly, hooper-rich, inexpensive local music festival with incredibly sweet vibes through the following Sunday!

If you can't stay through the week and for the music festival, there will be plenty of hoopy goodness happening during the weekend from Fri - Sun/Mon. Do try to stay Sunday night for a big jam and costuming pre-party though!

For more information about the Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Peace and Dance (April 17 - 20, 2008), go to: www.shakorihills.org

Again, if you are willing and able to participate in any way, please do! Your input and expertise are essential. So please join the Hoop Convergence tribe today. We hoopfully hope to hoop with you soon!

Many thanks to Natalie for letting us know this tribe exists! The following consists of a few brief descriptions of some hoopdance classes and workshops currently or soon being offered through local yoga studios. For those of you unfamiliar with hoopdance, it is a rigorous and ecstatic flow form in which we work with adult versions of that good old kids' toy, the hula hoop. Note: there will be a *free* sample class offered at Triangle Yoga this Thursday to anyone who might be interested in seeing what this is all about!

Starting JANUARY 10th, 2008 we also have a brand-new beginning hoop class at Triangle Yoga in Chapel Hill! We'll meet every THURSDAY from 7:30pm to 9pm for six weeks to build fundamental hoop skills, before moving on to a six-week Intermediate series, beginning on Feb 21st. Both six-week series will be session classes, designed to familiarize the beginning hooper with basic Hoop Path terms and concepts as well as build a base of core skills to potentially grow into an individual Practice. If you know anyone on the east side of town who's been interested in the hoop but can't quite make it over to Carrboro, let 'em know about this class! To register, sign up through Triangle Yoga: triangleyoga.com/default.htm

**Important notes: We will hold a FREE CLASS at 7:30pm this THURSDAY, DEC. 20th, during KARMA WEEK at Triangle Yoga. Hoops for this and all Triangle Yoga hoop classes will be provided--i.e., leave your hoop at home!**

Part II: HOOP PATH WORKSHOPS IN RALEIGH

We are totally excited to announce 2 different workshop series in Raleigh in early '08!

First, at MOVING MANTRA YOGA STUDIO in N. Raleigh, we will have a 4-week Introduction to the Hoop Path workshop series, beginning SUNDAY, JANUARY 6th, from 2pm to 4pm. The classes will all meet at this same time on Sundays, but apart from the first 2 classes they will not run consecutively. The Sundays we will meet will be: JANUARY 6th, 13th, and (skipping one week) the 27th, ending on (skipping ahead a few more weeks) FEBURARY 17th. You may sign up through Moving Mantra--here is the link to the website: www.movingmantrayoga.com/html/...ps.htm

**We will provide hoops for those who need them, but you are welcome to BYOH (bring your own hoop)**

Also, at GATEWAY YOGA near downtown Raleigh, we will have a 2-part intro workshop from 11am to 1:30pm on consecutive Saturdays: JANUARY 26th and FEBRUARY 2nd. We're grateful to our friend and Gateway owner Lila for helping us work this out! Sign up through Gateway Yoga: www.gatewayyoga.com/

**Again, we will have hoops as needed, but feel free to BYOH**

If you have friends (or husbands, wives, partners) in Raleigh or Chapel Hill who want to return to an exercise regimen but are having a hard time getting motivated, any one of these sessions would be a great holiday gift. If you'd like a handmade hoop to go along with this gift package, contact me (Ann) through tribe, or write us at thehooppath (at) gmail (dot) com.

pe*A*ce and namaste to everyone

Weekday parking after 5:00pm and on the Weekends:Any parking space that has USQ in the spot is free parking on the weekends and after 5:00 on weekdays. You are also free to leave your car in the parking lot and go onto Franklin Street and they will not tow your car.
Game Day Parking You will see people selling the USQ spots for $10 on game day. We have been assured that there will be plenty of parking on game days for our business. Look for the unmarked spots. The start time of home games varies some are noon and some are evening games. The times are not always set until the week before the game because of TV broadcast issues.

Here's a new meetup: http://yoga.meetup.com/566/

Let's meetup to do some Sufi practices. These are yoga like
practices (incorporating Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga,
Kundalini Yoga, but not the most commonly known Hatha Yoga)
from the Middle East and India.

These practices can lead to meditative and altered states, with
the ultimate goal of self-knowledge.

This brand of Sufism is universalist, respects all religions
and does not require specific beliefs to practice. As an Indian
Universalist version of Sufism it is not Islamic per se,
however Muslims, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, etc. are all
welcomed to practice.

When?
Saturday, Sep 22, 2007, 4:30 PM 2007
Where?
Unity Center of Peace Church
8800 Seawell School Rd
Chapel Hill, NC 27516

Event fee
$3.00 per person
