This appears to be a cheap idea.

Interesting but maybe they could do more, like add a tee or a cross and connect a skylight or second floor? I had an idea of using concrete pipe for a human-sized 'hamster habitat'. Nobody's done it yet AFAIK but I'm thinking it would be a good candidate for an earth-sheltered space..

Here in Texas, a company is selling old gas station fiberglass gasoline tanks that are being used for habitable spaces. When purchased, they look like a drug capsule. One of the ends is cut off and the flat end is placed on the ground with the dome end in the air. Anchor bolts are attached about 6" up from the ground and concrete is poured inside for a floor. Two wood frame floors are added with a ladder going up attached to the wall. At the floors there are trap doors. Doors and windows are cut in where desired. They look like silos and make a nice addition to any "farm" house.

They can also be configured to look like a lighthouse.

What might really be nice is to dig a hole for one of these concrete pipes and use it as a tornado shelter / root celler / basement with the silo above.

In Italy at one time they were using large rubber bladders (a log balloon type of thing) blowing it up then pouring concrete all over it to create a tunnel. Problem is it is not reinforced but that could be solved and you could build them of just about any size very fast.

I would hate the idea of a used gas tank. I would just never belive all the toxic chemicals were really cleaned out.

I've actually wondered about a paper mache' type structure. It would be similar to papercrete and what you are discribing. A large inflated "balloon" could be paper mache'd with fiberous paper / material and water-proof glue - then painted. Once the "balloon" is burst, or the shell dries, the structure would remain.

This is what I was talking about on Tribe last year. I looked around on the net trying to find out about what one of these "culvert pipes" would cost. Never could find any info. Sponsored links that looked** like they 'd lead to info were dead ends. And good lord, what must it cost to transport one of these things, even if you could find and buy one? But I'd like to have one as a bunker/shelter, bermed or buried.

the website of these hotels say its free, you only have a bed, light and power to recharge your gizmos. you need to use public bathrooms in the area. below is what i pasted

dasparkhotel is conceived and implemented primarily as a hospitality tool.

It is constructed from repurposed, incredibly robust drain pipes.

The external simplicity surrounds an unexpectedly comfortable interior - full headroom, double bed, storage, light, power, woolly blanket and light cotton sleeping bag. All other hotelery devices (Toilets, showers, minibar, cafe, etc) are supplied by the surrounding public space.
    From May through October
the simultaneously functional and comfortable concrete sleep-pipes offer the chance to experience a place in a totally new way.

    Personal door code
Upon booking you will receive a code to allow entry to your personal suite.

For the period of your stay dasparkhotel remains your all hours access safety zone - the charger for your personal energy reserves.

The chance to safely store your luggage and recharge portable electronic devices allows complete freedom of movement.

    Infrastructure
Because we obtain sanitation, breakfast and other hotel facilities from existing public infrastructure, it is possible for us to work with the very simple, user-friendly "pay as you wish" system. A night in dasparkhotel costs just as much as you can afford or want to pay.

    Costs
We see "pay as you wish" as a system where customers leave a Euro amount that they can afford and with which they wish to support our project.

    Reservations
Reservations can be made at www.dasparkhotel.net/reservation at any time.
