Homes built from grain silos, missile silos, and....?
Article on metal silo (but where are the photos??)
www.telegraph.co.uk/property/main.jhtml
Another silo article, same area (Warwickshire, UK)

I found some other conversions that were too expensive to fit into our "cheap" them here. Still interesting inspirations though... .

Re: Silos--- grain, missile, or ?
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 8:15 PMI stay away from missile silos. YOU might know they're decomissioned the gummint knows they're decomissioned.... but if the Ruskies have any doubts.... You'd better be wearing one hell of a sunblock SPF on red-telephone to red-button day lol.

Re: Silos--- grain, missile, or ?
Yesterday, 12:43 PMAha!
Now just imagine it with one silo, not three. Minus the frills.
Then it becomes "cheap".
I would love to find one of these!

Re: Silos--- grain, missile, or ?
Yesterday, 5:56 PMMissile silos are huge toxic waste dumps. And the government doesn't clean up anything. If it is decommissioned the Russians know it and won't waste a warhead on it. Not when there are so may other things to blow up.
I have always wanted to build a home into a grain silo with an observatory on the top. Or at least a way kewl sun room. -

Ditto. I've seen one like that, in fact. In one of the little towns all conglomerated to the north end of the valley of Provo, UT. Not my style of house, but the concept was there, and it was awesome.

Re: Silos--- grain, missile, or ?
Today, 12:56 AMThe "missile" thing was a bit tongue in cheek, originally. In typing the word "silo" I just had to add some other options after I typed "grain"...because "missile" is pretty much the furthest thing possible from a low-tech old grain silo (but I'm sure **someone**, somewhere is dying to own and convert a missile silo....).
I love the old galvanized metal look of grain silos, in combination with the shape, etc. I have a thing for that corrugated, ribbed metal anyway... .
Would love to own one. I wonder how much they cost? -

Re: Silos--- grain, missile, or ?

Someone has already converted a missile silo to a home for a cool mil. plus. -

Re: Silos--- grain, missile, or ?
Today, 11:29 AMThere is a farm in Georgia where they cater to deer hunters . They have converted several silos into bedrooms for the hunters . I can't recall the name of the farm , however one could look for deer hunting in Ga. and locate it . Might take a while ....
Oh and be aware some silos were/are used to store different types of poop from the farm prior to spreading it in the fields .
