Hi Michelle and you guys!
I watched Secrets of the stage Vol 2 for the first time this morning after having had it for a while, waiting for the right moment to enjoy it. I had a feeling I would love it, and that's what I did. Absolutely - a documentary/educational film I loved every minute of!
Now I have two questions:
- Firstly, I loved the restaurant footage SO much. I realized I'd love to have full nightclub shows at best by Michelle, Sandra, Zaheea, Nanna or Bahaia. I am totally the nightclub show type, and will be watching the SOTS Vol 2 millions of times because of them! It would be so great for fans not located in California to see the full nightclub shows. I am aware of a couple of NYC dancers offering their nightclub shows, low production cost I am guessing from their description (like they re saying light is not perfect etc).
Sandra, who I asked about such a possibility, reminded me Ansuya as a younger dancer actually put out such a nightclub show, too. I like her performances on it a lot more than the big stage BDSS ones :)
I'm thinking there most certainly is a market of bellydance audiences, beginner, non-dancing fans, and professionals to get to see those shows.
I'd be getting them instantly. Maybe you even have enough footage from the SOTS shooting? Quality on that one is perfect I'd say.
- Secondly. I ve wanted to ask about this for quite some time: On the first Secrets of the Stage you were elaborating how one should stretch right before a show. I'm no fitness expert, but I think there's quite some debate on whether one should stretch at all before exercise (cold muscles and risk of tearing them). do you recommend specific stretche when being "cold" or do you warm up in a specific way?
I sometimes warm up with a couple of minutes of "bicylce riding" in the air while lying flat-back on the floor. Would that be enough in your opinion? what kind of stretches do you do? (I own Body by Bellydance and Perfect Hips, so if you were referring to these videos and exercises, I could easily look them up :) )
thanks!

Re: Secrets of the stage: Two questions
Wed, February 18, 2009 - 10:17 PMI agree Dina! I would LOVE to have a compilation DVD of live restaurant performances. I have been watching ones of Sandra and Michelle over and over again on youtube! I love the energy and audience interaction of a live intimate performance, and that energy translates onto film as well.
It would be wonderful to have a live restaurant/nightclub performance DVD of these beautiful dancers. -

Re: Secrets of the stage: Two questions
Fri, February 20, 2009 - 12:50 AMI do like the idea... but it would be a bigger project than it sounds like because of music rights issues. But I'll suggest to local dancers to start performing to music that we can get the rights to and afford to use. Maybe later this year... -

Re: Secrets of the stage: Two questions
Fri, February 20, 2009 - 1:35 AMOh.. have not thought of the music rights :)
is it a different regime if you simply perform (like a certain "all inclusive" percentage per performance) as when you release something featuring the music?
Would be so great :)))))
