Hey Michelle,
I know some of us mentioned this before, but I wanted to mention it again :)
I watch way too many you-tube videos of you, Sandra and some other dancers! It would be wonderful to put out high quality DVDs of live performances (from restaurants/concerts/etc) of you guys.....and even make a whole DVD for each dancer! I also want to note that I absolutely LOVE watching Sabriye Tekbilek (she is in your Secrets of Stage vol 3)- wouldn't it be awesome to video tape her performances in the Middle East where she dances? And of course my favorite dancer Aubre deserves a performance DVD of her own too :)
Live performances (especially restaurant/club/festival settings) are just more interesting to watch because you can tell how the dancer feeds off of the audience. I like the audience-dancer interaction.

Re: Live Performance DVDs
Wed, March 25, 2009 - 10:01 AMHey Tatiana
Yes, we would love to do something like this, but it is a logistical nightmare. Just that little bit of Secrets of the Stage 2 was very, very expensive and time consuming. It took 3 months of filming every weekend to get that footage. And since I'm the only camera person that the clubs would allow in, I had to take all that time off from my regular gigs.
Some of the headachey things are: appearance releases for the patrons at the club, music licensing, and getting club owners' signed permission to do it in the first place (The club owners don't want us to freak out their patrons. We had complaints and had to stop filming many times). In my experience, the Arabs and Persian club owners, live musicians, and patrons rarely want to sign any sort of release, so massaging those relationships in order to get the contract signed involves quite a lot of time an effort.
Not to mention the problems in production quality.... which is a big thing.
If the opportunity comes up for it to be easier I will take it, but I don't think it would be possible at the moment.

Re: Live Performance DVDs
Sat, April 11, 2009 - 10:09 AMhey guys,
for those hoping for Michelle to realize some Bay Area dancer restaurant performances in the future..
In the meantime if you want to look at a great New Yorker dancer's restaurant footage I can advise you Ranya Renee s live dvds! She has too - if you search youtube for Ranya renee, you ll see live performances on a wooden floor with very bright lightening, and darker footage. The darker footage is called "At the Hookah Lounge". Ranya advised me the brighter one to begin with for better visibility - but since I love the dark restaurant performance at night style I ordered the Hookah Lounge (will get the other one soon, too :) )
It s exceptionally nice! and Ranya s a classical cabaret dancer.. so very very nice footage for us whilst hoping for CHeeky girls ones in the more distant future :) -
