I am ramping up to do a bunch of instructionals next year and wanted to find the perfect teachers.... I'm hoping for someone who isnt overexposed already on IAMED stuff, but who is well known and a talented teacher.

And before you suggest Sandra, I wanted to announce that we are filming her instructional DVD next week!!

  • Alcina down in San Jose is one of the best sword dancers I have ever seen. I still remember her show at an early Bay Area MECDA performance in Berkeley...maybe seven or so years ago. It was swell.

Heck, she'd be great in one of the BDFD shows, too.

How about Lorna Zilba in SF? Great teacher. Her warm-up alone would make a good DVD!

Also seconding (thirding? fourthing?!) Shoshanna. She is a great teacher.
    • Thanks Monica, I was just going to suggest Alcina! And not only for her superb sword/floor work, but her veil routines are also amazing and of course her drum solos are great as well! And... she teaches an abs class, which is an hour of a dancing workout. God knows how I miss this class, it's fun and it works on every muscle of your body while dancing all the way through. Anyway, I always think of Alcina as of a hidden gem of the community.
  • I don't have a particular instructor in mind, but I would really like to see more instructionals in folkloric dance. Debke, khaleegy, saidi, etc. And I would love to see some of the instructors who've been around for ages, are fabu teachers, but who don't currently have dvds out.
