I know we talked about Turkish Rom here for a while!
I would LOVE to have is a non-fusion, all Turkish Rom AUTHENTIC (not stage stylized) instructional. I love love love LOVE this way of dancing and from what I hear in various forums people travel long to get to learn with good instructors. I picture such a video would sell well. Also if a broad market should be adressed I picture something like a 2 dvd concept, one classical Rom dance, one futuristic fusion choreography or something similar could be a great idea. Now I cannot help much with instructor names. To get Didem might be a good idea, with subtitles :)
Or someone like Dalia Carella or Eva Cernik.. or maybe there are students of theirs who could do this?

Wed, July 8, 2009 - 9:43 AMArtemis is a fantastic Turkish Rom dancer you should check out. :)
www.serpentine.org/artemis/artemis.htm
I did a workshop with her a few years ago and she was amazing. I loved that she took some time to explain to us the culture and history of the Rom and the differences in dance style. She also had video examples of Turkish dancing and Rom dancing both performance-style and what "average" people do at parties. Her zils are also amazingly fantastic. -

Wed, July 8, 2009 - 9:50 AMOOHHH - that sounds fantastic. The distinction between what normal people do at parties, and what would be done onstage - I would LOVE this workshop to come on dvd!!!! -

Re: Turkish Rom instructional STRONGLY desired!!
Wed, July 8, 2009 - 1:15 PMDoes Didem really do Rom? I know she's Romany, but I don't think I've seen her do more traditional Turkish Rom dance.
I think Liz Strong also studied pretty intensively in Turkey and she teaches Turkish Rom workshops.

Eva Cernick, because...
Wed, July 8, 2009 - 7:24 PMEva Cernick is one of the best teachers around, and she has no instructional dvd's. It's such a shame and waste. A lot of famous dancers studied under her, such as Nanna, Sadie, and so on. She's not a diva, she's not the insecure type that keeps secrets but is very generous with her information. She is highly regarded by the top Turkish dancers/teachers in the world for her knowledge and skill in both Romany and Turkish Oriental. And finally, she is a very nice, genuine person. -

Re: Eva Cernick, because...
Thu, July 9, 2009 - 10:19 PMI have heard amazing things about Eva, I would LOVE to have a dvd of hers!!!! Yeah, turkish is not an easy subject to find dvds to study from, or instructors for that matter.

Re: Turkish Rom instructional STRONGLY desired!!
Thu, July 9, 2009 - 7:45 PMI heard that Liz Strong is working on an instructional DVD, which may be her own production, and not with Cheeky Girls, though.
As for another recommendation for a possible instructor: She is at the other side of the country, far away from Michelle-Joyce, but from what I know, Kostana from DC is fabulous and has a strong background in Turkish Romani dance. -
