"What Would Jesus Buy?" tells the story of Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping as they embarked upon a tour across the US on a campaign to save Christmas from the Shopacalypse in late 2005. Some of you will recall that Andie Grace joined the choir on that tour and served as an associate producer on this film, which was produced by Morgan Spurlock ("Super Size Me").
Reverend Billy has performed at Burning Man for years, and is of course known and loved by many in BRC... plus, many regions actually helped along the way on the 2005 tour -- some folks helped with housing, rides and other support (remember our bus crash?) or participated in some of the "actions" (such as joining the choir when they crashed Chicago's "Mag Mile” in the frigid cold of Winter 2005).
The director, Rob Van Alkemade, is a burner (he was also the Director of Photography on "Beyond Black Rock" back in '02), and of course, Andie Grace is something of a burner herself. So there is definitely a lot of Burning Man synchronicity in this project. The film is hitting the road for its premiere theatrical run this holiday season. It's an independent production - so let's get local communities involved since they were so integral to the film's creation and will be the strongest place to start sharing its message.
