Hello fellow burners,
I want to know if there was a "Chicago burn" and if so what it's called. I'm from Chicago and miss the hell out of the city. I now live in Florida and we have 2 burns close by and Transformus is only a 12 hr drive (and soooo worth it) . I really want to know about the chicago burns and come back home and meet all of you, spin some fire and give some hugs.
Love,
Blackjack

Re: Chicago Burns???
Wed, August 13, 2008 - 3:23 PMThe best way to stay connected to the burning scene in Chicago is via our website: www.burningmanchicago.org
Next up is a combined Chicago-Detroit decompression burn the weekend of 9/27-28.

There really isn't, unless you do as BMOrg does and pretend that everything from Kansas City to Cleveland is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. This year, even the decompression is being held so far out of town, that it can double as the decompression event for Detroit! Here's a map for you

Which may be one of the reasons why, between two of the largest cities in the country, one of them noticably bigger than San Francisco, the organizers were unable to scrape together even 500 participants. These "local events" are almost never local, and so the actual locals don't get to them. -

Re: Chicago Burns???
Wed, October 1, 2008 - 3:27 PMAt this point, having dared to dissent with the party line and remembering past behavior, I expect that I should be seeing a good amount of ranting flammage and groupthink along with vague accusations of evil intent, peppered with outright fabrications of events that never occured in 5, 4, 3, 2 ...

Re: Chicago Burns???
Wed, October 1, 2008 - 7:29 PMNo ranting... just pity for your narrow minded existence, Joe. I already know who you are and your history on ePlaya and the rest.
Poor thang....
What events have you thrown lately, Mr. Dunphy?
Have you heard of Resonate? We have produced 3 of these HUGE multi-media events held in Chicago since 2005 and in March 2009 we will be throwing Resonate 4.0 - last year we had 1800 attendees.
We had our last two decompressions on the mean streets of Chicago - this last decompression we joined forces with Detroit (who Chicago burners have developed a tight kinship with) and we held it out at Willow Ranch in Grand Junction MI... a site I helped scout. We put a cap on attendance at 500 since we did not want to stretch our current resources and wanted it to be manageable for the people who actually DO SOMETHING in terms of putting on burning events for others to enjoy, and use as their blank canvas other than just be an armchair critic.
This last Great Lakes Decom was a trial run for an upcoming 11-state regional called Lakes of Fire that we're shooting for having next summer.
Joe, your a sad, lonely soul. Come find us and have some fun. -

Sat, October 4, 2008 - 9:10 PMI'm not saying anything bad about Joe... I just know his long history... there's a lot of background to this situation.
Aaaaaaanyway... in any case, decomp was great. We're looking at the 2nd weekend of June for Lakes of Fire, and it will be held in a location (tbd) that is central to all participating regions... more to come on that as the planning process progresses.
