Changed my mind, decided to post these separate.
Does algae stick to the walls (in an enclosed system with a specific algae) ? From the design of some of those bioreactors, I get the feeling it doesn't.

Yes, algae does stick to walls. Yes, water motion helps reduce the sticking. I have some bioreactors that are heavily bubbled but still the algae sticks to the walls a bit. Since my setup generates fairly slow algae growth currently, I only have to clean my bioreactors out completely every 2-3 months or so. A friend of mine, Fletch, once told me that silicone spray worked really well. Spray it on the inner surface of a dry bioreactor and let it completely dry and cure.
