Changed my mind, decided to post these separate.

Does algae stick to the walls (in an enclosed system with a specific algae) ? From the design of some of those bioreactors, I get the feeling it doesn't.

In further reading, I find that water motion is used to prevent sticking. Anyone know how fast the motion needs to be to prevent sticking?

      Hi Tony,
Yes, algae does stick to walls. Yes, water motion helps reduce the sticking. I have some bioreactors that are heavily bubbled but still the algae sticks to the walls a bit. Since my setup generates fairly slow algae growth currently, I only have to clean my bioreactors out completely every 2-3 months or so. A friend of mine, Fletch, once told me that silicone spray worked really well. Spray it on the inner surface of a dry bioreactor and let it completely dry and cure.
Good luck and be sure to check out my tribe called Bio-Fools.
      :-)
