Skandar's Supplemental Sounds V.6

Sorry it’s been so long since I posted one of these mix threads, I’ve just been incredibly busy over the last month. I still haven’t stopped searching for your next favorite mix and I’ve got two here that'll be great to jam to on your way to the Playa.

Anyone who’s ever tried to DJ tracks with live instrumentation (i.e. not sequenced on a computer) knows that it can be an almost impossibly difficult task. The simple fact of human error comes into play and makes it almost impossible to mix two different pieces of live drumming smoothly. I’ve come across a mix that is pretty incredible in both its vision and its execution – the only coherent NuJazz mix I’ve ever heard. Elements of jazz & samba with some African influence make this one unique and something that will be enjoyed by people who think they hate DJ’s.

This next one comes from the guy I call “San Diego’s best kept secret” – DJ Pain. He’s easily one of SD’s most creative DJ’s and is so much more than what you’d think of as a “hip hop DJ”. This mix combines (good) hip hop, rock, jazz, funk, and downtempo while overlaying old tv & radio commercials, speeches, movie clips, and all kinds of crazy stuff while cutting, scratching, and somehow mixing all of these disparate elements into a coherent storyline. I’m seriously amazed by this guy.
